When considering height in a pattern: You may be the same, shorter or taller than a pattern says it designed for, BUT: it all comes down to where you carry your height ( example: you could be 5’5” with a short torso and long legs, or a long torso & shorter legs. Or be 5’8” with a long torso and shorter legs. Just something to keep in mind when considering a pattern based on the height it’s drafted for.

Excellent point. That would probably be more important to consider when fitting pants. I think I have long legs, which would explain why the torso if this pattern was so spot in! But I love the length, and don’t know where exactly the hem was intended to fall to. In my dress it falls just below my knee which is perfect!

Great video. Thank you. As for the sleeve shoulder notch not being “in the center” of the sleeve: the back armhole length is actually naturally longer than our front armhole length ~ Which is why the sleeve cap notch is further towards the front of the sleeve cap.

Very true. On this sleeve pattern that is the case. Not on all sleeve patterns though ;) Thank you for the clarification!

I’m getting ready to make this soon, so your video was great timing. Also, I’m 5’2” so I’m definitely going to need a muslin to see how much to shorten it. I’ll be stealing your sleeve hack!

I love your sleeves. I will be using the peplum top part of the pattern for my muslin too. I know I will need to do a few adjustments and it takes so much less material!

Yes...if I know the skirt will fit my circumference, I don't want to waste fabric doing that. And being that this pattern has a peplum top as an option, I just cut on the top line. It's so cute I hope to make a top with this pattern, too! Thank you for watching and leaving a comment! Use my sleeve hack...I love the more fluttery sleeve on this dress!

I love the fuller sleeves! It would still look great with the ones that the pattern has, but I guess my preference is for more 'flutter'! ;) Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!

Your Lyric dress is lovely. I have this pattern, but haven’t made it yet. I’m curious as well why you printed all sizes rather then using the layers feature and only printing your size. I hope you have a wonderful anniversary holiday and enjoy wearing your dress.

Thank you so much for your happy wishes. This dress is indeed lovely and I’m so happy with it. As for the pattern printing in all sizes… on the particular computer I used when printing this, the layer option wasn’t available. It was probably an issue with my program, and not at all the pattern file. On my other computer the layer feature works great. That’s the only reason. ;) Thank you for watching and asking your question!

I am excepionally short in the waist , my back waist is 14 inches, plus I am only 5'2" inches tall so knowing how it fit you, makes this a no for me. Great review.

You might want to make a muslin of just the top part, and make any changes that would make it fit correctly for your back waist measurement. Mine is just over 15" and I think a lot of my height is in my legs. If you like the pattern, don't give up on trying it out! You might need to hem is shorter in order to fit your height though. Thanks for watching!

Hi, your vlog jumped into my feed and as I have this pattern I was very interested in your review and small alterations. However, I don't understand why you have a category for 'pattern fits me straight out of the box or packet'. Whether it fits well or not is more to do with whether the LN block suits your individual body than a characteristic of the pattern itself or the quality of the drafting. I make many alterations to my toiles and I expect to usually. Scoring clarity of instructions and general drafting is however, very useful. I'm interested to learn your response to my observations. Thank you

That's a great question! I included 'fit out of the box' primarily because there are sewers (usually newer sewists) who expect that a pattern should fit as it is. So I just wanted to document how many changes, and what they were, to fit my particular body shape. Some pattern companies take into account common fitting issues and change their patterns to accomodate the majority of their users. Others, however, just leave the common 'problems' in their patterns so that the users end up having to change them. So I figured it might be a useful catagory to some. You said that you have this pattern. Have you made it yet? What changes do you normally have to make? Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!

The “fit out of the box” category isn’t very useful for your viewers, since we don’t have your body, nor do we even have your body measurements to compare to. A category telling us the size range that is provided in the PDF would be helpful.

Thank you for your input. My review is done from my point of view, obviously. It is simply my experience. There are some sewists who expect patterns to fit without any changes (usually newer sewists), so for me it's important to document how many changes I need to make. Of course this might or might not be different from other viewers. There are people who do have my body type. I don't give my measurements, as that's too personal for me to give out. Perhaps I forgot to mention what size I made up, but I'm pretty sure it was an '8' all the way through. The range of sizes on the PDF is available on the site, if you want to see it. All the sizes are included in the PDF, which would be a good thing for me to remember to mention, even when I am trying to get a video quickly filmed and edited. That's a 'check mark' to put in my memory bank!!! Truly I thank you for watching my video and providing your input :)

Thanks for the observation. This pattern is made with this idea. Not all patterns have the notch off center however. Some patterns (some for knits come to mind) have the sleeve shape exactly the same in front and back) with the notch exactly in the center. It was simply an observation I briefly commented on regarding where I wanted to start measuring when I changed the sleeve. I appreciate your input and thank you for watching my videos!
