It is great that they included the kitchen sink. One time, I turned my back for a minute and my S5IIx had vacuumed my entire flat for me! 😅

I ALWAYS WANTED THIS CAMERA over the years
@ChrisFlores2212 күн бұрын
I’ve used the bs1h & bgh1 and the only annoyance is the lack of a screen. It pretty much always needs to be rigged with a monitor. Shooting raw with it is a pain so I pretty much stick to internal codecs only. The port keys bm5iii makes using the camera even easier since it adds touch screen control even the menu. Highly recommend.
@trayneadjeifilms12 күн бұрын
Nice review on the bs1h. I feel it was made to be used more as a studio and a camera for versatility. When the first dropped it they showed it being used in different scenarios like on a drone, gimbal and rigged up and in multicam settings. I think it works best as an additional camera to your arsenal as opposed to your main cinema camera.

Panasonic has recently repackaged those box camera's under a different brand(same as their PTZ cameras) , they added some autofocus improvements(still not phase detect) but the main upgrade is the addition of NDI HX2. mostly for production in education and corporate banking on the web control of the camera's and network switching. Personally I'm waiting for the next S1h mk2 , like if it will be a GH7 in full frame it will be very special.

Putting the IO aside, ZCam is the company that packed the most amount of similar value into their camera bodies...the company continued to put out firmware many years after release to continue to build a very robust camera and address release issues....the F6 Pro addressed the IO issues. Later fw updates added inclusion of external Braw and ProresRaw. I think the failure to support this model by Panasonic killed their cine camera momentum.

Huge fan of BS1H but have to say no screen at all is a pain sometimes. But the lumix tether app is awesome
@JasonMorrisphotocinema12 күн бұрын
Definitely has its purpose for the live broadcast for what it is designed for. With a screen it would have just made it so much nicer for other applications
@ShaneVanLitz11 күн бұрын
Love mine. It really is a fun camera and the OLPF is low key a hidden gem! For me though the lack of full frame 4k60, rolling shutter, HDMI / SDI Lag, HDMI frame drops and lack of waveform monitor did all add up after 2+ years of ownership. Still whip it out for 1.8x and 2x anamorphic though, that open gate with OLPF makes it a really hard choice to sell!

@ForestCinema8 күн бұрын
I mean… it’s using the same sensor as Pyxis, the Sony IMX410. I haven’t tested BMD’s specific implementation, but I know the BS1H has the same OLPF setup as my S1H, which works exceptionally well. Pyxis has BRaw on its side though, and lower lag on the video outputs (a known pain point on LUMIX cameras.) I’m personally waiting for a Pyxis “pro,” hopefully with built-in ND and V-Mount battery plate.

Zcam E2 S6 (super 35) and F6 (Full frame) is a great box style camera at a great price!
@coder54312 күн бұрын
"it could pretty much surpass [...] even the Pyxis"... it's already more expensive than the Pyxis, while being an even more stripped down body, so you'd probably have to buy more rigging for it. So, I'm skeptical that it could be a better _value_ than the Pyxis outside of very specific scenarios, even after some improvements, but it is cool how small it is.
@JasonMorrisphotocinema12 күн бұрын
Yeah Pyxis offers the best value for sure!
@waynealejo12 күн бұрын
I understand you may be aware of this, but this is a live broadcast camera like the Blackmagic micro and others, so in that regard it doesn’t even compare to an FX6. The real “competitor” would be the EVA1, which they don’t make anymore unfortunately, but I’d love to see you try it. Hopefully they come out with a MK2 of that soon.

I really wanted to buy one but i saw a lot of accessories like cages have already been discontinued. It sucks Panasonic doesnt invest much into their cameras long term anymore.
@DmitriFilms12 күн бұрын
These cameras were tempting when first announced, but they really need to fix a few issues. I get it, it's a box style camera, designed to have a monitor connected to it separately to operate. But what they can do is have a small LCD screen somewhere that just shows basic info (f stop, ISO, WB, fps, codec, etc). Plus, they really need to boost the sensor read out on this camera. Not expecting FX3 or FX6 speeds, but around the 15ms range is preferable (I currently shoot on the S5IIX. Yes there is rolling shutter, but in those films where I do have fast movement, the diagonal lines is the last thing I notice).

The S1H records 6k up to 30p, Pyxis and Cinema 6k records 6k 36p, 6k 17x9 48p and 21x9 60p. The Pyxis records 6k 16x9 while the other 2 don’t. I use a S1 with a BMVA and a Cinema 6k. The S1 temperature is about 400 less, match the color temperature and they look very close with the Black Magic edging them out slightly probably due to no noise reduction and internal sharpening? 120p in 1080 on Black Magic is far superior from my test. Black Magic is 22 bit with more compression choices while the Panasonic S Series 120p in 1080 leaves a lot to be desired.

As a BGH1 owner, I can say that Panasonic let these box cameras down. At this point, all they really need to do is work with Atomos to allow camera controls (stop/start, ISO, WB) with the Ninja V, and if ZCam can do it, it's well within Panasonic's capabilities. Even the MFT version has the same dynamic range, better rolling shutter performance, and better low-light performance when compared to the full-frame Pyxis.
@adrinaik9312 күн бұрын
I reckon they already have that with BRAW, don't they? At least, if it works as it does in the S5IIX, you can change white balance, activate the highlight recovery, and change exposure, which is basically like changing the ISO
@pragmaticfilmmaking12 күн бұрын
@ When recording raw externally, you need an additional way to view the menu and camera controls because of the lack of an integrated monitor. It’s a hassle, trust me.
