To me, what makes this movie a treat to watch is the fact that it looks like everyone on screen was having an absolute blast during filming. The Cuban Pete bit is my favorite example of this. Just look at the faces of any of the extras at any moment and they look 100% into the choreography. It’s a film with a clear amount of heart and soul to it.

So fun fact: this movie is actually based on the comic series of the same name. However, the comic is actually MUCH more violent and bloody. The premise is similar, loser finds a mask that grants him wacky and cartoon like powers, but he’s less a hero and more a depraved anti-hero called The Big Head Killer. The comic series get VERY violent and the first main character actually uses the mask to go on a killing spree, murdering everyone who did him wrong. The scene from the movie of those two auto mechanics getting their just deserts? The same thing happens in the comics, except they’re bloody corpses with the car parts cartoonishly shoved in them. The mask also goes to different owners throughout the series, each using them in their own unique and chaotic ways, with a giant hulk like person named Walter trying to chase it down (to give you an idea of what kind of character this guy is, he’s someone who digs a knife into his face just for fun and presses tacks in his hand to form a messed up smiley face). The comic series is alot of over the top fun if you can get past the violence.
