I think the worst part about this movie is that it's ultra specifically nostalgia for 80s arcade games-- yet the type of nerds who loved 80s arcade games would absolutely know how botched a lot of the games are. The humans got in trouble for cheating? What about the aliens cheating by fundamentally changing the point of Pac-Man?? The ghosts are supposed to regenerate indefinitely. The point of the game is _not_ to est all 4 ghosts. Not to mention that the ghosts have very specific behaviors they are supposed to follow, and none of the people driving followed them. I feel like the aliens would be more upset that the ghost AI is being ignored, rather than the fact that Peter Dinklage used a non-existant cheat code to make his car move faster. If it really did exist, it'd be an exploit, so it's fair game. I think Adam Sandler is just stupid for not realizing that they played the role of ghosts incorrectly. The whole film has this "anti-cheating" message-- which is resolved by... cheating at Donkey Kong?? They climb girders without ladders, they carry the hammer to areas they aren't supposed to, and Adam kills DK by chucking it at his face. It's a bad movie on its own, and it's especially bad when the nostalgia has fatal flaws too. There's basically nothing enjoyable about it. It's a killer concept that just gets misused. And of course there's the bizarre "modern games are just shoot bad guy and gore. Classic game better" message or whatever they brought up in that one scene

In 2017, before hollywood realized that to break the “Video Game Adaptation” curse they had to actually *care* about the source material/movie in general? While also starring Adam Sandler in yet another comedy film? That it would have good writing and an actual cohesive message, again, while starring motherfucking *Adam Sandler* in yet another comedy film - in 2017 - in a movie with video games as the focus? I’d say the worst part was to be absolutely expected, and that it’s yet another Adam Sandler “comedy” flick instead of a movie where Adam Sandler plays an actual character. No seriously, the dude can act, but just chooses to star in all these comedies which are either forgettable or just painful. It does suck to have such a concept wasted though. Then again, wasn’t it based off (or at least “inspired by”) a short film of a similar concept and name iirc? Think it initially stirred up some controversy around this movie before it even came out.
