Is the Mercedes AMG A45 faster than a M140i?

Finally I go out in an AMG A45 and see how it fares with the mighty M140i.

Still would choose a M140i over A45 for performance and just a different beast. A45 is like for appearance looks .

Most similar torque/hp cars would scorch a M140i at launch. On a rolling test, however, the 140 would sprint past a non-modded A45. The m140i is a GT with an inline 6, the A45 a proper 4-pot hot hatch with significant understeer. Yer takes yer choice. Give me a 6 pot anyday, but I understand why others would prefer the A45

Facelift with 2 LSDs fixed all the understeer and upped the power to 380. They anhialate 140is now

A neighbour who lives down the road from me has a 2017 BMW M140i and I've seen and heard him hold it in 1st and 2nd gear for a very, very long time !! with his engine really revving up highly !! and screaming out very loud !! ... So as much as I am a Mercedes AMG fan ...I really think that in "in-gear" acceleration the BMW 140i would win the Mercedes A45 no problem !, as another neighbour of mine has a silver A45 AMG and It seems to launch rapidly and change up through the gears very fast for an automatic ! but he cannot seem to stay in one gear for long before it automatically up shifts whilst the BMW 140i would just stay in one gear until the person driving it lets it shift up into the next gear - All in all big credit to the BMW M140i here - The Mercedes A45 AMG and The BMW M140i are two amazing cars in their own right. I have a 2009 CLS 63 AMG with that big 6.2 naturally aspirated V8 AMG built and designed engine and a 7 speed automatic/peddle shift gearbox which is cool but my car is only 2 wheel drive (rear wheel drive) so putting down all the 507 brake horse power in wet/damp conditions can be pretty suicidal !! due to no 4-matic on the older AMG's sadly :-(

I have been fortunate enough to own both of these cars, the night and day difference is the way it goes about it's business M3's would not live with it on a twisty road, I also had a C63 and it was not any quicker although it made a much better noise, only positive for the BMW M140i is your not targeted by every chancer in a Vauxhall Corsa wanting to drive right up your ring piece

Easy to see how much you enjoyed that by your big grin Mo! 😁 A young female Dr in my work has an identical one, I love it, makes my M140 look so subdued! Think the M140 sounds much nicer though, AMG sounds too metallic. Love those seats, red belts, wheels, dash etc etc I'm gonna ask her if she fancies a straight swap tomorrow...... Think I know her answer..... Great review again mate. 👍

Cheers Ronnie, I'm still grinning.... Put it this way..... If I bought an AMG A45 I probably be bored of it in like six months because the novelty of the exhaust, race seats (which are really firm) and race car feel will wear off on the roads I drive on. The M140i however, almost two years on and I still adore it! 👍🏽

Might be 375bhp but itz still not as quick as the m140i take in to account drive train losses for 4 wheel drive , and the m140i being always under rated!! The big race on KZbin over 1/2 proved it 100%

Great video! to be honest would be good if you can get a camera mount so you can put your phone in and record the rolling runs. Plus its more of a accurate test since if you have another person recording it adds weight (unless ofcourse you have another person in the other car too) I have an Accord Type R that I am restoring at the moment, once it is done it would be good if it is on the channel.

To be fair M140i doesn't need the a tuning box to keep up on a rolling start. Off the line the AMG is way quicker..... It does suffer from bogging down though. Hopefully will do a part 2 on this at some point comparing both cars when it's safe to do so.

The gear shifts are very apparent, ZF is very relaxing but then sharpens up in sport..... Whereas in the AMG they are ferocious and then very ferocious in the higher settings!

I actually prefer the tone of your M140i exhaust, doesn’t sound so synthetic and has a deeper tone. Must be that 3 litre 6 cylinder 👍🏼

Yes the 6 cylinder definitely plays a part.... The AMG exhaust does have a louder crackle when up shifting. M140i sounds more solid....

Slim Shady u just sound like you’re hating looooool, the b58 engine in the m140 is no where near its limits. Can easily produce more power but for the set up of the car it’s perfect I think, especially with it being not being a full M car. A lot more usable on a day to day basis

John Marshall lol are you high? A45 AMG has one of the finest chassis going around. Not to mention the engine and it power output. 140kw/ltr only second to that of the Mclaren Senna in the world. M140i is a great car but really, it’s no match to the A45 AMG.

M140i has better power delivery, smoother gearbox... Handling wise the AMG A45 is all over the M140i. M140i is twitchy, A45 is more composed. M140i is more of a GT hatch whereas the AMG A45 is a hot hatch. On a rolling race pull.... I think the M140i has it. Off the line A45 will gain.

M140i is the last of the breed of superhot hatches with true engine. Focus rs looses it's 5 pot, rs3 wants to kill you withn understeer and a45 is just à boring fartcan 4 pot
