Just to get better understanding the monster hunter franchise is similar to the souls franchise from fromsoftware let me explain both these games were very unique when they first came to consoles people didn’t like them at first but after playing them for so long they ended up being the so popular they created a new genre of games every dev team wanted to make a souls game and a monster hunter game, my point for this comparison is that both these games share one thing they didn’t really rely on micro transactions aside from expansion dlcs the reason people don’t mind expansions is before we had to rebuy the game with the expansion but now we can buy it by itself but the point I’m getting at is the true value of a game is what’s already in the game not what we can buy for it.

Capcom could introduce event quests with rewards of actual weapons and fun armor sets. Also paradise people did complain about the armor dlc and the lack of event quest rewards which used to provide them. People have been saying since Rise that the uptick in dlc is concerning the reason it's blowing over now is A) Weapon skins are new, and also removing potential weapons from the game. B) Monster Hunter has less good will for it to cash so people are less likely to give them the benefit of the doubt. It doesn't help when content creators such as yourselves go "well no one complained before" when people did, have and will do???
@DanielisAwesome522 жыл бұрын
The money from Paid DLC does NOT go to developers, they get their paycheck regardless and only the executives and company see that extra money. Sunbreak alone made $159,960,000, thats enough to pay quite few salaries right there. The lack of complaints for the armors isn't a positive, because there was only 2 in World/Iceborne and both were preorder/deluxe bonuses, there wasn't room to complain about them, and in Rise they hid them, no announcements on main channels or during large presentations, the Armor skins were just quietly put on the shops where only the whales looking for them would buy them. I think this is too far in the wrong direction. And the problem is that arguing against them is fighting an invisible enemy through the body shield of the developers. Would event weapons been as detailed without paying for it? I think objectively the answer is yes. The problem is there is an executive force preventing that amount of passion. So yes in the dull reality of overpaid executives, paying for these skins is what makes them so detailed. Not because a developer now gets a bigger check and more time to work on them, but because a fat cat gets a fatter wallet and is willing to sign the same check that developer was already getting that month at the same rate.

yeah that's the thing about stuff like this. We've seen this happen so many times with so many other franchises. At first it's just minor cosmetics. Then the cosmetics start getting more common and more elaborate to the point where the stuff in the base game is made worse to incentivize buying the paid cosmetics. And eventually as that gets worse and worse, they start testing the waters for paid gameplay affecting mechanics. And while it is true that the paid armor skins haven't gotten as much attention, it still feels like they're stepping over a boundary here by adding in paid weapons as well. And honestly part of the reason why people haven't complained about armor is probably because they haven't known what the situation was since they (thankfully) don't advertise it in-game. But ever since this weapon set came out I became retroactively upset at the armor situation as well. like World had I think 2 paid layered Armor sets and they were both also pre-order bonuses if I recall correctly. And either way they were sold as a set. Other than that it was stuff like gestures which is whatever imo. But now the DLC situation in Rise is getting frankly disgusting. They sell every piece of an armor set individually now, so when you open up the DLC tab on steam you just flooded with dozens and dozens of MTX for random armor pieces and whatnot. And it gets more annoying when you consider that they have all of these exclusively paid layered armors and now weapons in the game, yet all the Apex monsters never got their own armor sets or weapons. And Most of the event quests now have been relegated to only giving out gestures and stickers that nobody uses. I mean we know they could have been making new armors and weapons for those quests because of the MTX existing, they simply chose not to. And while I understand the argument of MTX helping pay for continued development, that only really works when talking about an actual Live-Service game. Which Monster Hunter is not. Each Monster Hunter generally gets about a year or two of updates and then they move on to the next one. Plus Monster Hunter isn't just a 60 dollar full-priced game, it also has a 40 dollar DLC that most players end up buying alongside it. The way most MTX games tend to shake out is that more than 50% of players never spend a dime on MTX, and another 45% never make more than a single purchase or spend more than 10 dollars or so. Meanwhile with Monster Hunter, going off of sales numbers of World and such, about 50% of players buy the G-Rank DLC which like I said is about 40 dollars. They are already making far more money from just their G rank expansion than most games make from MTX as a whole. Especially on an average per-player basis. Monster Hunter isn't the kind of game that needs MTX to stay afloat and continue development. Not to mention that I'm pretty sure lobbies are player hosted p2p systems so it's not like they even have to maintain huge server banks like an MMO in order to keep the online functionality working. It'd be one thing if we were getting more MTX *and* more layered armor and weapons for free, but we frankly aren't. The only reason they've stepped up their MTX game is because the higher ups want *more* money. Not for any practical reason.

The thing is, there are monsters in the rise and sunbreak like all apex and the new risen Chameleos that doesn't have any armor or weapon (Chameleos has armor but no weapons). I also really like the animations, but with praises aside I think it would be fine if this was simply just extra content on top of really great content. Like the designs of the weapons are beautiful in this game but none of them have this kind of effort put in to them and that concerns me. If the weapons in game had unique designs that changes the weapon a bit as they upgrade through the skill tree and had unique animations like this then a DLC like this I think would be okay since its would actually be seen as "BONUS" content. But since that's the not the case I can see why this worries the community and rightly so. Also IMO I don't think paying for layered armour and weapons feels right. Earning it through game and fighting a really cool monster makes cool weapons like this feel worth it. Not paying for it out right.

Here's my train of thought. Consumers should not worry about how the devs/producers are doing and making an argument that paid dlc 'supports' the team behind the game. It is always the devs who should make enough effort to improve their game by adding more content into the base game that makes people want to buy and play it. One big factor that brought me into the game way back in my PSP days is the fact that we have free quest skins. Basically just "buy the game and farm for mat for new skins". If the game was free to play then paid skins wouldn't be a problem but I have to agree that for someone who loves to be fashionable while hunting monsters, its a bit of an annoyance having to spend money to look good as if the major DLC weren't already pricey enough. IMHO, I'd rather see them make these skins available as free quest DLC and just have paid "extra effects" for those who really want to be flashy. Nothing beats "I have this skin because I farmed for it".
@nekrumzero81172 жыл бұрын

@TheProgenitor2 жыл бұрын
Clearly there was a lot of effort put into these skins. You mentioned this in the video, and that's likely the main reason why they are paid dlc. I think the main issue is that Rise has a lot of paid DLC but has a distinct lack of desireable event quest rewards when compared to previous titles. If there was an abundance of event quest armor and weapon rewards, people would care significantly less if some layered armors and weapons were paid DLC
@jeslucas25152 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I can't recall a single game where paid dlc "glamour" didn't lead to other financial "issues." I understand why it exists, but we already paid for the full game + expansion. Don't rob us and try to glitter and wrap it up as "optional purchase." Make it how you they used to be made: "for this glamour, you have to do x, y, z" and so on. You know like hunt Magnamalo without dying 3 times to get "x" layered armor pieces. Or complete a Mitzusune hunt in under 15 mins without dying to receive gamma armor. Just ideas.
@luker82162 жыл бұрын
A lot of your thoughts on it align with my own. Armor DLC has been a thing since Rise launched and we haven't heard much complaints about that, so the complaints on the Weapon DLC seems odd. As well, being able to see the weapon that you spent a bunch of time farming is always nice, though if people don't like it there are the other layered weapons in the game people can use instead. I might pick up some of these (or some armor DLC) only because I have a bunch of Gold Nintendo Coins that will expire after a little while. I'm not sure if I'd even use em, since they don't really "fit" with many armors in terms of aesthetics, but better than the coins just evaporating into thin air. That said if we buy em all up, Capcom will notice and will start making it the norm. I know a lot of other games have paid-DLC cosmetics all over the place, and if we aren't careful MonHun will become the same (though once could argue that it already has).

Companies need to go back to producing complete games... anything extra should be added for free, as Microtransactions of any kind are a cancer. While I don't mind Monster Hunter's expansion model, they're certainly the best expansions of any game series. I would prefer if they just spent that extra year in development to release the game as a whole. The entire industry needs a better marketing system for the price of games, there's a lot of titles that charge $80-120 when they aren't even worth $20... Monster Hunter is one of the very few series that I would normally say is worth every penny. But these microtransactions in MHW and MHR are definitely taking a step backwards after already asking players to pay for their respective expansions.

A huge part of what made event quests appealing was the fact that it unlocked cool looking gear or cross-over gear. If all the new gear became paid then event quests lose a lot of appeal IMO. I wouldn't see issue if event quests are still unlocking gear for free and they still made some paid gear here and there but going to fully paid content for gear is just a disaster, especially from what has been shown so far for Rise and where the event quests have only been unlocking gestures or stickers that, let's be honest, do not get used very often if at all. Free DLC has been a major plus for the MH franchise and is something that keeps you coming back to the game whenever new stuff comes out. Take that away and instead make it paid, a lot of people are not going to bother with it because of the added cost for not much pay out and suddenly the player count starts to die once main content is done.

i feel like emotes, stickers, hair, voice packs and character change tickets are fine, but the whole point of MH in my opinion is the gear you make and stuff. you did mention in the video that you prefer to use the weapons that you farmed for, because it feels like you arent using that weapon if you use a paid skin thats *only* a skin. if you say, like the look of zinogre swaxe but need to use the shagaru one for the element, thats fine because you need to farm both to use it. these kinds of weapon mods should be 100% in game unlockable event items, similar to how USJ stuff worked in the past. the way they did it in 4U and Gen/Ultimate was vastly preferrable because unlike in sunbreak they by design did not include a solo hunt for every single monster in the base game, you could only get certain monsters via event quests and they doubled up on them being both a means of hunting a certain monster and also a way to get some cool stuff if you needed/wanted it. its a trend that will probably continue, just the world we live in these days. thankfully mods exist on PC and most likely this will be free for PC players who feel like modding them in.

I'm mixed, I'm against Microtransactions but in this game I don't really mind. Sure the paid stuff is cool but it's not like there aren't any free ones, or we stop getting more free ones. I see it as harmless because it's just layered, it's also not super expensive. Like I bought a few stuff like a voice, skin of the owl cost me 3 bucks? It maybe a slippery slope but atm it's fair some games I played charge like 10 bucks for an owl skin or 20 for a voice and give you nothing in the game itself. But my main preference is just game, DLC like Sunbeak and that's it.

I think with layered weapons out in this title update it makes me less likely to go in on these skins. There are a plethora of awesome weapon designs in base rise and sunbreak. It's ironic that they included the layered weapon feature and these paid weapon skins in the same update. If the lost code stuff came out with sunbreak launch then maybe I would've been more likely to get them. Either way if you don't like the direction they're going with paid weapon skins then vote with your wallet. If no one buys these then Capcom will have no choice but to rethink their strategy.
