Is the Nerf Warden really that bad?

The Nerf Warden DB-8 has gotten a pretty bad reputation due to the number of broken units received and tested. But it's been over a year since the Warden was released in the initial Elite 2.0 lineup...is it fixed? Did anything change? I rolled the dice and bought a couple to see for myself.

The rail tooth is a cheaper version than what I've seen on most stuff - they stopped putting the spring under them at some point, but having it just be part of the shell is a step beyond, wow. A bunch of people have been claiming that the warden design was quietly modified after all the early breakage, but nobody has opened one up and compared it with an early one. I'd love to see someone settle that question.

I was sceptical at first of the lack of spring on the rail tooth, though I do admit that I actually prefer the solid piece, as seen in Modulus and Doomlands blasters, over the original spring-loaded tooth from N-Strike and early Elite days. It just seems to hold attachments much more securely and with less wobble than the original design.

Hasbro tends to fix genuinely flawed models that break too quickly. They fixed the Apollo to have metal gears and an unjamming switch, since somehow jamming it was a disaster waiting to happen. Meanwhile, using that same logic to fix the Warden would be hypocritical at best, seeing the whole line of Elite 2.0...

I know this perspective is based on location/availability, but my biggest problem with Elite 2.0 isn't even the quality, because that ship has long sailed; it's simply that they offer nothing new for far too much money vs. thrift store originals. I know we can't all run out and grab $2 Roughcuts, but, I don't know if anything really justifies buying Elite 2.0 off the shelf. The Turbine is at least compelling, but I can't bring myself to experiment with my wallet even that much.

I have been unable to find any decent modern NERF here personally AKA all that seems to come through here is vintage items. I did manage to get a 98" Big Bad Bow tho which is in pretty much mint condition minus the missing stickers and it fires Mega XL quite nicely so I am glad to have ammo for one of my favorite blasters.

@@beretnarf Shockwave owner here. It's not bad at all. It is surprisingly hardy. Fired off 200+ darts with it so far, so at minimum 13-14 full firing cycles, probably more than that, and it is insanely reliable. The prime is PAINFULLY easy, very little resistance, I've only had one jamming instance so far, it's still functioning and I haven't been able to break it. The only real issues with it are the sometimes inconsistent barrel clearances (leading to at least 1 dart usually not going very far and sometimes a few more), and no Slamfire. However, I do know for a fact that the Surgefire before it had unreliable Slamfire that liked to skip barrels, and at the max ROF I can maintain with the Shockwave, sometimes it will do that as well even without Slamfire, which is why I'm fine with it not having Slamfire. Oh, and a nitpick, the drum isn't easy to turn by hand, so getting to the very top and very bottom barrels of the drum to reload them is a little slower and more difficult than I would like.

these are totally just designed with the same quality and tactics as the alpha strike line but with a premium price. Aside from the piss poor quality I honestly thought this whole line was ugly. I hated the colors and the redesigns of virtually every blaster.

At least the thing works now, but that QC is still unacceptable for the "#1 Blaster Brand". The only Elite 2.0 blaster I'm remotely interested in is the Eaglepoint, and I'm even on the fence about that.

I guess I've been a Mechanic all my life. I would take my toys apart, oil them to make things work better, sand off sharp edges and put them back together, then the neighbors would want me to work on their toys after they borrowed mine. My planes would fly farther or do tricks, like loops, or barrel rolls, because I cut and modified the stabilators, flaps, and ailerons to make them functional. That's a major reason for me getting into this hobby. There's a good deal of reward in fixing broken toy and returning it to it's grateful owner. I like the styling and details of all Elite2.0(or 2.N0!, whichever you prefer.). And, was especially attracted to the more edgy, blocky styling of the Elite2.0 Warden. Now you Sir have made me want to buy this blaster, realizing full well Nerf's intent was to make another 'Maverick' that could occupy store shelves for the few years becoming a little cashcow.

I got a Warden, and my experience with it was not too bad. Mine didn't break. And I wonder if the internals of the 2021 has any revisions to the 2020 version, if someone has bought it in 2020 and bought another one in 2021 to compare the internals. Update from Jan 15, 2022: My Warden finally broke, it started to not fully armed and it started ceasing up. And at least it last longer than my Icon Magstrike that I previously had, where 1 day later, I popped the air bladder from pumping it too fast. Update from Feb 20, 2022: I'm able to fix my Warden, and it was a pain to open, but I'm able to fix it, the clips from the priming handle had solvent weld, but that didn't stop me from opening it, and I finally fixed it.

I feel like all of the elite 2.0 guns are alright for stock but the only ones that aren’t worth getting is the shockwave and the warden (there’s a high risk it would break) but the one worth getting the most is the turbine (quite impressive stock version) and the Phoenix (if you live in Australia like me and it’s impossible to get a stryfe and to get dart zone blasters)

My warden still didn't broke for like 130~ shots. Wow. Also my warden is very hard to shoot one dart at a time, it sometimes even happens randomly. Another problem, that has been fixed is left upper air restrictor being stuck after shooting.

I’ve heard elite 2.0 ammo is actually worse than elite ammo because it is more sensitive. Also on my BattleCamo Roughcut I have never been able to consistently single fire. However it is broken now (it broke randomly after a few months of light use).

I honestly thought they'd withdrawn the Warden, as I've seen a Roughcut reskin on the shelves in 20201. If you have a Roughcut already I see no reason to buy this, unless you have to in order to review one.. As far as I know Habro never admitted there was anything wrong with this blaster, but I bet it ruined a lot of kids' Christmasses in 2020, so now they can't admit to any fix, if there has been one.

I've just noticed that the two sets of smart ARs are a lot further apart than the Roughcut's, and this has made the whole blaster quite a lot thicker and blockier at the front. Quick answer: Yes. I seriously doubt they updated it at all. I primed mine very carefully and liked the two-stage firing one dart at a time. didn't slamfire at all since I watched walcom's classic vid. I don't know how many times I fired t but it's not many. it stopped working last week after having been sitting there with no darts inside. only the right side fires. I wasn't clear on project nerf's fix and if it still works. It's a good looking blaster but the roughcut feels way more solid.

My guess would be the Friction on the pump is there to create force for the slam fire since it appears when doing slam fire the Darts shoot out on the pump push not the pull. As for the trigger, since it has duel function, to fire one shot or two, it can't be a single spring back set up or else how would you accomplish the duel function of the trigger? Now I'm sure Nerf could've designed easily a duel spring set up to allow the duel function to work properly but with inflation and cost increase of materials, there's no way they could've kept the price the same as the previous version. I'm not sticking up for the cheap corner cutting cost decisions of nerf, but they have way more competition these days then they ever have so they are a business and a business's main goal sadly is profit, not product quality. So there ya have it.

I can’t understand why Hasbro loves to use gears in the roughcut and warden. It made my experience with the roughcut absolutely horrendous as I broke 2 of them. The first breakage got the priming handle stuck halfway, and the other it was just loose. Now, I didn’t buy a warden, but honestly I think I might reconsider after watching this review.

there are a few wardens that dont break when you test it. ive seen some videos of youtubers testing the warden and it didnt break, however, other youtubers have broken them. so overall, the chances of you getting a warden that wont break is very small. you are most likely to get a warden that will break. very unlikely to get one that wont break.
