It's two weeks since I bought my GTI Autobahn 6MT in red. No knob to adjust volume is a pain, but you DO get used to the finger swipe and not resting your hand below it, inadvertently changing the display, etc. The really serious issue in my opinion is how many operations it takes to change the temperature and fan speed, especially while driving. It requires taking your eyes off the road as you find the CLI button, open the screen, hit the plus or minus to raise or lower the temperature, use your finger to swipe fan speed up or down, and THEN remember to SYN so passenger and driver enjoy the same setting. Very, very bad and would have been so much easier and safer with knobs. The seats are very comfortable and supportive, and the whole cockpit is a great place to be. Driving dynamics are as satisfying and fun as I'd ever expect. Not as fast as an R, doesn't have AWD, but the price difference is considerable. Overall, I'm very glad I bought it. Beware of dealers who are "enhancing" sticker prices up to $4K.

Agree with your comment about climate control being irritating. Worst part for me if the climate controls are locked while driving. So if it starts to fog up while driving, you can't turn on the defroster while driving. Must be at a stop to have the full climate control options available. Seems less safe to not be able to turn that on, especially after navigating to the menu.

I wish automakers realise that they don’t need to do away with all knobs. Screens are certainly the new way, but they can be combined with knobs so that you’re not fumbling for every little setting. I’d like to know as well. I’m about to purchase a 2022 Veloster n w/DCT. I’m waiting for it to arrive at my dealer. Could be another month or so. There are so many great cars coming out and it’s making me question my decision to by the N. I checked out a 2022 BRZ and I was impressed. It doesn’t have the power of the N but it’s a great all around performer. The new GTI is nice but I’ve never been a fan. The look is too tame for me.
@slimv3.1623 жыл бұрын
@@jakef777 honestly i would just go ahead and get the Veloster N. I never had any intention on buying one but I wanted to test drive one cause I seen all the rave about it. Well I test drove it and it only took about 30 seconds for me to decide I wasn't leaving the dealership without it lol. It literally blew me away because it just caught me off guard so much. It's actually quite remarkable how much performance and customization you get for less than $34,000. The new golf r is great but no where close to the same price and the brz is great as well but imo ot doesn't match up to the N in any way. Bottom line is you will not be disappointed. Oh and not to mention the veloster n comes with a 3 year track warranty as well so you can have as many worry free track days as you want for 3 years.

@@jakef777 I have the 21 dct and its quite a bit quicker than the manual. It does have manual shifting with the paddles or shifter and it won't auto shift if it's in manual mode. I really like the car you have. I believe Sofyan from Redline Reviews drove a similar one but I recall that the interior with different, but I start to question that as I type this. The lag on the infotainment unit was very apparent. You tried to highlight its application but it definitely came up short from what I imagine VW would find acceptable. I wonder if that is somehow anything that could be updated wirelessly or at the dealership via some sort of a service bulletin. If that worked flawlessly, or reasonably close to that, I’d find this car hard to resist. I’m curios what the in-the-seat difference really would be between the GTI and the R. At these prices, it’s certainly wise to not only consider what other new cars may compete with this, perhaps not head-to-head, as well as what used car values there may be once the market stabilized in whatever fashion we can expect or to in the near future. One last thought Joe, I like just about everything you present and always tell myself, “I’m gonna buy that one. Yup. That’s it.” I think when the time comes it’ll likely be the 86, maybe the Supra, maybe a Cayman and maybe a Miata RF. Those are the ones I’m always thinking of and then a newcomer comes along but it takes a lot to stay in rotation.

I agree with the people saying that in some ways this is a downgrade from the mk7.5 the interior just seems gimmicky and touch sensitive controls on the steering wheel are a misstep. For 40k the Autobahn is extremely overpriced and I can't see anyone not going for the R for just 4-5k more which is SO much more car for the money.
@Alfra13243 жыл бұрын
The R is a track car! The GTI isn’t! The GTI doesn’t excel in one thing, but does everything well, I’ll take the GTI!!! 👍💖🙏🏻

@@Alfra1324 in the mk7.5 I like the GTI over the R and that's what I own. But the R isn't really a track car, there isn't too much of a difference between the Autobahn and R since they both have the DCC, yes they are different in power, one has a front LSD and the other a rear LSD, but in day to day driving they are the same.

I’m gonna zonk that cup holder. The MK7.5 has a nice sliding cover making the car seem more premium. The new cabin looks more modern, but a whole lot cheaper.

Why my flu.x blue light filter on, the color is a nice light champaign gold. I'm thinking Ford Maverick instead for my next car. Strong performance, Homedepot utility and AWD capability.

Looks stunning, but surely everyone will go with a manual transmission nowadays because it’s becoming rare.
@stephenhendricks1033 жыл бұрын
VW says they expect the initial take rate for the "stick" will be 1 out of 3. That's expected to decline to about 1 out of 5. Each is a substantial take rate for a manual transmission. However, the ability to treat the DSG as a manual transmission with quicker shifts than a three pedal system tends to limit the choice of a manual transmission even among "enthusiasts."
@strawberry_lacroix3 жыл бұрын
why would anybody go for manual just because it’s rare? makes no sense

Over 40k for a basic fwd 4 cylinder? I was hoping to consider the new GTI but why would you buy one if a rwd sports sedan can be had for the same money (bmw 330i, genesis g70, even the g70 3.3t with another 130hp)?

Not even close to the same money more like 10-15k more at the least for the cars you described

@@stevenyia2778 compared to gti autobahn (41k) because otherwise its 1 zone climate and cloth seats 🤮: tons of bmw 330i’s at 43k, g70 2.0 at 37k, 3.3 at 43k. Lets throw in the new kia stinger with another 60hp at 36k. So no, not really any more expensive.

For the prices Honda stealerships are asking for the Honda type R, I wouldn’t compare It with the GTI, it would make more sense to compare it with the Honda Civic Si. I’m sure the next generation Honda Civic type R will have mark up prices around the 2022 VW Golf R territory. Don’t you agree!?. Btw, the GTI autobahn at $40K is overpriced, specially when the Golf R base price is $44K and that gives you AWD and 315 HP.
@RaitisRides3 жыл бұрын
The Golf R has more HP and AWD.
@Ratodemiami3 жыл бұрын
@@RaitisRides Yes, I know. My point is that you are comparing the GTI with the Civic Type R when in reality you should be comparing it with the Civic Si. The base Si is $27K and the base GTI costs $29K. No one will be able to get next Type R by paying sticker price, as a matter of fact the dealers markups are in the $40/$50 for Civic Type R. The 2022 Golf R base price is $44K. So, to answer your video question, No, The VW Golf R is the better hatch.
