I kitted out the truck with 4 inch thick foam, an electric blanket, battery inverter river 2 to power the bracket, a thick fuzzy black queen sized blanket and camping pillow. I am 5 ft 11in tall and 165lbs and 40 years old and able to crawl into the trunk via the folding rear seat and use the fuzzy blanket to block out the light and leave my legs and feet dangling over the folder rear seat into the cabin while my torso and head and arms are floating on the memory foam e-blanket and fuzzy blanket pillow kit and take 10-40 min naps to refresh on the go and works fine. Commuting to work smooth I can get over 50 MPG and hypermiling over 70 MPG, so it bests even my wife's 3rd gen Prius in terms of fuel economy. I also love the design of the E210 Corolla :)

I agree with Kirk's conclusions... in _theory_ ... *however* in terms of real world _availability_ ... (and Kirk being an experienced Lexus salesperson may or may not agree with me) don't you think it's highly unlikely for Lexus dealers to sell stripped down base models? I think Lexus dealers tend to load up their vehicles with expensive option packages. So that means the base model GX is kind of a mythical creature. I would also think a similar thing is going to happen with the new Land Cruiser. Being as the previous Land Cruiser had a much higher point of entry, I think Toyota dealers aren't going to want to sell stripped down base model Land Cruisers. So that leaves the 4Runner as the only "affordable" option. And I think it will be much easier to find low spec 4Runners (not immediately of course, but eventually) than it will be to find stripper base model Land Cruisers and Lexus GXs on dealer lots. So there goes your price overlap... right out the window (sticker)! 😺

Toyota is very smart to provide variety so that each individual buyer can choose the model that best fits their budget, likes and dislikes, and intended uses. To me, the styling on the new 4Runner is very muscular and chiseled and aimed at a somewhat younger demographic. On some levels, it’s almost cartoon like! I can easily imagine a superhero driving the new 4Runner. The styling on the Land Cruiser 250 is very purposeful, but not as “in your face” as the styling on the 4Runner. To me, the styling on the Lexus GX 550 is much more dressed up luxury and much less off-road, and rugged. Together with different power plants, there should be plenty of variety to appeal to a very broad audience.

You forget that lower load floor on the GX, Kirk. That’s a plus for me. I like the lip of the rear of the hatch matching the floor of the rear. It makes it easier to load heavy boxes and you aren’t scuffing up that load floor lip they’ve created in the LC. It’s a small thing that gets more annoying with time.

Toyota has been lazy with battery packaging. Hopefully this changes soon since they bought out Panasonic's JV with them

Im 6’1” with long torso and feel like a circus bear in the current 4runner. Since you have sat in all of these, which is best for us taller folk?

I'd say gx LC. 4Runner feels tighter

Trying to decide which one for on road trips and then lots of beach driving and not getting stuck on Texas Beaches. Some areas are 4x4 only on the beach but want the comfort also. Tough choice with these three. Not sure if the LC tires are up for beach driving on soft sand.

Land Cruiser is simply perfection on wheels. Until Toyota release an upgraded version. Pricey but simply amazing.

My wife has a 2022 Toyota Sienna platinum (freaking $65k! Still hurts) I have a 2019 Lexus ES 300h (hybrid) and kept my 2018 RAM 1,500 Hemi v8. So hard to decide, wife won’t let go her van. I could sell Lexus and RAM to get 4Runner but I would miss the 40+ MPG of Lexus and the Bed of the RAM to carry stuff… 😮

With the Tacoma pro being 65K the 4Runner pro is going to be close to 70K which is insane.

Dang these price increases!!! So... the 2024 Limited 4x4 Tacoma starts at $52,100 MSRP. The 4Runner would probably be a couple grand more right Kirk?

Kirk, on paper all of them have similar exterior dimensions. Is the 4Runner a tad smaller inside?

My local Lexus dealer sells at msrp. So I think the GX can be purchased for less than either Toyota product.

I have had 3 5th gen 4Runners and kinda disappointed in the new 4Runner I don’t think it’s terrible looking but compared to the Land Cruiser it’s no comparisons

Land Cruiser Premium package is only like 1-2k cheaper than the GX Overtrail. At that point, I'd take the GX

One of the problems Toyota & Lexus creates having 3 nearly identical models is that to differentiate each, they withhold key and desired features from each model. It will be hard to get a 4Runner with all of the desired features. Same for the LC. Probably the only model that will offer all of the desired features will be the GX550 such as the Luxury and Overtrail models. It was easier when they two models such as the 4Runner and GX460 as the differentiation could be largely around luxury.

Failed to mention the huge towing capacity gap between the Toyotas and the Lexus. For those that own boats and travel trailers the Lexus makes a strong case.

The Land Cruiser and the GX cost roughly the same when you look at prices of the overtrail and the Land Cruiser trim that have similar equipment both come out around 71K

Good analysis. Glad I pulled trigger on 2023 4runner a year ago. Give me a Land Cruiser with a roll down back window love it! Give me integrated into dash infotainment on 4runner I’m there for that. Felt like 5th gen had the best of all worlds
