While there is a new gas-powered Equinox on the way, Chevy is kicking off its updated crossover with the electric version at an affordable price tag -- right around $30,000 to start. I think Chevy is taking the right approach to EVs, not focusing on making them unnecessarily as fast as possible off the line or high horsepower but focusing on the main crux which is range. Non sports car ices aren’t expected have crazy sub 4 0-60s so why should EVs? I’m not an EV tech by any means but I’d assume letting go of wanting to make an EV super fast and powerful would allow the battery to be focused on range, which is how it should be.

SuperCruise is honestly pretty amazing technology. I'm not generally a fan of self-driving cars, but SuperCruise is probably the most advanced self-driving software that's out there in a consumer car, and it's objectively impressive how much it does. I'm not going to be buying a car with self-driving anytime soon, but I do think it would be cool to test drive one.

The RWD Model Y is not only quicker, but also more room for passengers and cargo, and much more energy efficient. Efficiency not only saves on electric costs, but also provides faster charging on road trips (don't need to charge as much to get to your next stop). Equinox looks nice though, and provides a good option for something different in a sea of Teslas.

I agree that the charging speed of the Equinox is fine. However IMO the low energy efficiency requires more kW of charging power to get the same charge times as a vehicle with greater efficiency. The "smaller" battery capacity, still a healthy 80+ kWh, doesn't really help the time needed to charge to cover a given distance.

My wife and I both own EVs. Charging from home the car are a joy to drive. When resorting to fast chargers with a Bolt EUV and a BZ4X AWD it is awful. Typically about 40 mins to an hour wasted. I would much rather have flexibility on where I stop but I find with limited fast chargers it truly dictates where you can go on road trips and the destinations are another 5 to 10 minutes out the way adding to the travel time. We love the cars for level 2 autonomy and the cost to drive when charging from home./ free fast charging for a year.

IDK how impressive 3.0-3.2 mi/kWh is. Model Y gets about 4.2 mi/kWh and is larger. Kia and Hyundai EVs also are much more energy efficient than the Equinox. Note that these values are energy from the battery. EPA measures energy into the car from a L2 charge point, and that is more indicative of what it will cost to run.

After owning one ev we quickly got a second one and can wait to get to an entire ev solution. I can day until you drive and live with one you don't realize charging on a road trip is not as bad as you think after you have done it a few times to understand how to use that time while charging. I'm always more refreshed at the end of the drive. You don't get that in amy ice vehicle.

I agree. However if enough EV’s were affordable, that would over load the market existing, unreliable charging infrastructure. The current $40-50k price range places the purchasing demographic for people who likely own a home, can charge at home, and not apartment or condo dwellers that can’t can not charge at home. One GOOD thing about EV’s - thieves are WAY less likely to steal them, and commit crimes in them. Also less likely to be a noisy nuisance in the street. When the charging speed and infrastructure can support more cars charging more often, less expensive EV’s may become available.

@@ChargeToDrive All right I'm about to make you look like an idiot. That happened in 2021, we are in 2024. Catch up bro. Do your research, it was not Chevrolets fault but rather a supplier issue, they recalled and replaced them. Bolt EVs have been fine since then. Im clearly not the one living under a rock. Now the internet knows your not that smart. You act like ALL cars whether gas or electric should come out of the factory perfect. Do your research next time.

I owned a Bolt under recall. It was nothing. There were about 10 batteries out of a quarter of a million that actually got affected. If you looked at the few that had catastrophic issues they were crazy corner cases. One of them was driving 75-100k a year in Kazhakstan or somewhere like that, presumably as a taxi. For sure they needed to increase the robustness of the battery system, but for 99.99% of people the recall was just a precautionary measure. You have ICE vehicles go bad too - look at current Toyota V6s grenading themselves. Resolvable issues.

You're wanting to drive with no hands because driving is "mundane" & you want your brain "relaxed"? That makes no sense. The more relaxed you are, the less alert you will be of your surroundings. @@wilmarbarrick3194 most EVs have about a 300 mile range which is 4-5 hours of drive time. The Silverado has a 400+ range which is 6 hours of drive time. I think that is more than enough to warrant driving fatigue. Today’s generation also has it harder financially than any other generation currently alive. The older generations screwed us over financially, so thanks for that and overseeing the decline of America.

EV sales are way down. Tesla has laid off thousands, postponed factory builds and dropped prices. Ford lost $132,000 on each EV they sold during the first quarter of 2024. All the rabid eco-weenies and Democrats who needed to virtue signal have bought one. Now, regular people see them for what they are: rolling feces. Resale values are through the floor and the dangers of lithium battery fires are more well know. EV sales are up and significantly. Manufacturer capacity is up more than sales, so prices are going down. Which... why would you complain about that? You like inflation? It's an awesome time to buy an EV right now. Forget the politics. Have you ever driven one for a week? I've not met anyone that isn't a total corner case "I drive 40k miles a year" that is never going back to ICE after having a long-term driving experience with an EV. Having a full tank every morning after charging overnight at home and the instant torque and handling seal the deal every time. Keep an ICE road tripper for long trips.
