I had my aortic valve replaced with this, 9th March 2020. Almost four years on it remains well seated and I am doing well.

I had an aorta valve replacement with an Edwards valve (bio) in Feb 2023. I can't speak to durability since its only been 10 months, but in terms of performance it's amazing. I'm running better than I have in 20 years. I'm 69 and can now easily run an 8 minute mile. I've worked out and done pull ups all my life and since the replacement I've been setting new lifetime PRs about ever month in pull ups per set. This valve is an amazing piece of engineering.

Thanks for sharing this comment. I’m a fit and healthy 44 year old - despite my doctor’s advice I still enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle whilst awaiting my aortic valve replacement later this year. I’m terrified about my post operative condition, because l love running, regular gym and so on. Your post has given me a lot of hope for the future. I hope you’re still doing great and making the most of your new valve!

I’m 62 years old and I received this valve last year (2022) after my birth valve had a 5mm hole in one of its bicuspid leaflets caused by endocarditis at some time in my life - I don’t know when or how. I’ll let you know how long this new valve lasts. I’m a physically fit 175lb male who has lifted weights since I was 12 years old. During my heart catheterization I had no blockages, so I’m a good test subject. I also eat very very clean.

I'm 41 years old and had an aortic valve replacement with the INSPIRIS RESILIA valve a year ago. I go about my daily life as normal as before, I feel as if I never got operated. I hope this new valve will last me 10+ years before needing a TAVI. My surgeon installed the biggest valve he could taking into account future TAVIs. Apparently, one can have up to 2-3 TAVIs afterwards. I'll certainly need a re-operation down the line considering my age and TAVI valves tend to last less longer than sutured valves.

I am 40 years old, had an aortic valve replacement six months ago, so far everything is fine. I suppose in 15-20? years I will have to undergo another open-heart surgery and then, after next 15 years probably TAVI? But medicine is evolving extremely fast, maybe everything will be completely different. What is your guess of real durability of this valve in younger patients? Thank you very much for the answer and this video as well!

For someone already under an anticoagulant treatment, but needs a new valve, does "Inspiris Resilia" still has benefits? What are those exactly? Looking forward for your answer, thank you.

Great question. There are two benefits: 1. lower anticoagulation need and 2. Option to discontinue anticoagulation if faced with dangerous complication of blood thinning

3:04 I had this valve fitted in Feb 2021. It was still in the clinical trials phase. Nice that I wasn't even asked to participate, just found out 4 weeks after surgery. I had been asymptomatic prior to surgery but post surgery, I was hit with multiple symptoms from dizzyness, constant fatigue, breathless and even fainted. So much for a advanced valve. If Edwards want their donkey valve back, they can take it any time. My experience is nothing but negative. I wish that I never gave my ill informed consent.

I cannot provide specific clinical advice. Often though we prefer to avoid high dose blood thinners after endocarditis surgery and use tissue valves

Im 35 and want this valve is that too young If it last 20-25 years its worth the risk for me Can this valve be put in for open heart surgery??? I need a new aortic valve would love to take a risk and see if it does last for 20-25
@Thekeyholeheartclinic4 ай бұрын
The data still suggests that mechanical is the preferred choice in young age. Having said this your comments are very good and many younger patients are preferring to follow tissue valve by mini surgery between ribs, and TAVI or traditional mini breastbone repeat surgery in later life depending upon clinical suitability

I'm 36 years old considering this valve. I personally am really intrigued by the new technology. It does annoy me that we cannot tell with certainty whether younger patients can be stable with this in the long term. However, if combined with regular fasting to clean up the arteries and blood, I don't see why this valve can't last me a long time. There's no cardiologist on the planet who is going to advocate for this regiment, and therefore there are no studies out there that would prove this to be helpful (even though we know fasting is helpful for people in good health). I can't see fasting being good while being on blood thinners, which means my entire body would suffer by not being able to fast. The very reliability of a mechanical valve also means I would have to cut this good lifestyle habit, and this habit could be the thing that helps these new tissue valves last longer. Having a bicupsid valve is super annoying and I'm convinced that no one has the correct answer. Leaning towards what I trust will be good for me and taking the risk of no long term data. I talked to people at Edwards and they claim there's a patient who got a bio valve in the 1970's and it is STILL doing well. What makes this person an outlier? I wish we knew, but lifestyle choices must be a factor!

Hi David, I had this valve installed almost three years ago. I've not had any issues whatsoever. Without the large scar cascading down my chest, you wouldn't even know I had the surgery. I had it put in when I was 63 yrs old. I expect to get 20 years out of it. Your take on Fasting is spot on, by the way.
