You also get a “Sprint” mode with that Pro pack. Hold down the left paddle when driving to switch to it from any other setting for optimum sport mode. It’ll revert back to previous setting (e.g. eco or comfort) when you slow your driving back down. Very handy for quick bursts without having to keep it in sports mode.

Great review. It’s def better than the M2 because it’s a better daily driver and it’s quicker in the damp/ wet conditions we have most of the time in the UK. One thing missing off the spec sheet was adaptive suspension which is £500 and well worth it. Spend £3k on better brakes, exhaust and a small tune to about 410hp and it’s perfect.

Superb! Bang on! And yes this is the model to have . Better " value" than M2 and subtle in comparison. Performance and overall package hits the target. An everyday " M" car that can embarrass many a so-called "super car". Seen one in grey and one in black. Black does it! Looking forward to your review of the new M2 .. However! The previous one is THE future classic! What a machine! Thank you for this excellent, BMW understanding, day to day review. Appreciated!

Excellent and very accurate review (I know whereof I speak…I owned a 2017 m240i and, earlier this year, moved up to a 2023 m240i xdrive….). I just have one thing to add…. An important option every person should consider for this car is the M Performance Suspension Option which (at least here in the USA) gives you larger, staggered wheels (255s on the rear and 245s on the front). That, combined with larger front brakes, goes a very long way to ameliorate and address your concerns about braking and stopping power. OH… and I chose the car in Brooklyn Grey!

Love to hear a review from a previous generation 2 series owner. I just purchased a 2022 m240i and am patiently waiting for delivery. It is optioned with the larger tires and brakes I am trading in my 2016 340i RWD. Was a little skeptical going from RWD to AWD but after watching these videos, I can’t wait!

Love ours , option the M tech pack for the larger front brakes & extra cooling & it’s only £300 , we have the new big screen Idrive 8 in ours like the new M2 , we have seen 40mpg on long runs , £700 service costs for 5 years & I’m sure one the road the performance would be similar to the M2 , the M240 just does everything really well all year round & it’s properly quick if you want .

How’s the driving characteristics as a daily? Like yeah I want to put it in sport sometimes but I also commute like an hour for school so I definitely don’t want to put it in a sport mode for that. Do the driving characteristics change drastically?

Really good as a daily! It’s respectable and it will respond to how you want it to

It absolutely transforms. Comfort mode is quiet and pretty luxurious, put sport mode on and it becomes a beast with great power and handling. I had an FR-S before and the BMW engineers worked some magic because this handles nearly as good despite weighing 1000lbs more.

Is the m240i faster than the 340i and 440i ? I assume it would be since it’s lighter but I’ve never heard any mention it ?

Exellent review! I am kind of confused about the complaints a lot of reviewers have with the brakes though. When I first got mine they were almost too touchy but now they seem good. I came from a wrx though so maybe I dont have much to compare it to.

BMW quote 1,690 kg rather than 1,765 kg however they also quote 369 bhp whereas they reckon that figure is far closer to 400 bhp - and the prices are dropping like a bomb - just looked (12/06/24) and one was for sale at £39,999 and it was a 2024 model with 2,000 miles 😲 (22 for sale under £40k) this time next year £30,000 😁😁happy days !

M performance cars are just regular BMWs with a tune. I just traded in my M440i for my new M2. The M40s are not M cars and don’t even come close to a real M car on the track. They are only very quick off the line with XDrive in a very consistent manner, but that’s about it. Of course a regular BMW is a great driving machine but they aren’t M cars. They are a world of difference away. I will not race a M240i from a stoplight. I know it’s gonna be quicker off the line

The proper M cars are WAY better on track. However the M40's/"M lights" are way better road cars than the proper M cars. In most real world driving conditions the M240i will be quicker than the M2, as well as being more comfortable and better on fuel. However it will never feel as special as the M2 (although for me personally the formers factors outweigh the specialness factor, which is why I chose an M240 over the M2).

@@richardkillian5657 I agree with your point regarding daily use. I have an F82 M4 and its an amazing car, looks incredible and is exhilarating to drive but as a daily it gets pretty draining. Its so stiff that anything but good surfaces are uncomfortable, its really noisy the minute the road is a bit broken up with tyre roar and I've also found the interior creaks and squeaks a bit due to the stiffness. It's also way too fast for public roads, I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've been able to really enjoy it, you're constantly running into the back of traffic on our choked up road networks. My old 440i coupe was a better all round car for every day use. Of course on track an M car would be better but for 99% of people who aren't absolute enthusiasts then I would say unless you are completely in love with the look of an M car then the M lite's are the better option.

@@CapitanHarlockisback The 2022 model is the same as the 2023 and 2024, only difference being the I8 system in the 23/24 models. Performance wise they are the same. Also there is a slight bit of cost cutting in thew new models. The 2022 is the definitive model. Only difference will be in the LCI model which is still a few years in the future.
