I think the reason why people lean towards the 458 is because everyone remembers the piece Top Gear made when it was first launched and all the other road trips they did comparing the Ferrari so in a way...the 458 became legendary status right off the bat
@pereldh57416 ай бұрын
458 styling is original, coherent and clean aswell.
@rahulsudhir6666 ай бұрын
@@pereldh5741Absolutely! I agree with the original comment as well. Another key factor is that the 458 was likely the first car from Ferrari that you could jus take anywhere you want without fear of it breaking down, though most of these issues were almost ironed out with the F430. You could comfortably put 50k miles on it without worrying too much about whether the car would remain trouble free. Then you have the sound, which is a huge factor for me. That glorious glorious sound!! When comparing stock cars, the 488 just doesn't come anywhere close to the 458. Add aftermarket exhausts n the 458 is just on another level altogether, let alone a 458 Speciale. Besides, I'm no race car driver n so I am well aware that I won't be able to use all the power n drive n extract 10/10ths of a 458, so it doesn't make a difference to me that the 488 makes more power. I'm also someone who likes toying with my vehicles n I'd probably even get the 458 converted to a manual. If it were a situation where I can't have a 458 n the 488 platform is the only choice, I'd go for a F8 Tributo. I prefer the F8's styling over that of the 488. It's basically a slightly toned down 488 Pista n most likely a rarer car than the standard 488 or even the much more expensive "limited edition" 488 Pista. I'd get the F8, slap on a couple of Novitec performance parts n their lowerin kit n get a set of deep dish BBS Super RS wheels n make it my own.

On the 458 vs 488 thing. A screaming naturally aspirated engine is the same reason these guys have a GT3 over a Turbo S. So I don't understand their point. Seems like for most people, sound and emotion out weighs raw performance for a road car.
@nigel.w6 ай бұрын
Sam and Tony aren't most people. They both privilege performance. Also, demonstrably they both favour the sound of cross-plane V8 turbos, so they're not typical Ferraristi. But the fact is despite the 488's masive increase in power and torque, there's very little difference in on-paper performance. However, the 458 is quite twitchy, whereas the 488 is much more stable. Looks are obviously subjective. Interior tech is somewhat improved in the 488 but the interiors aren't much different. Going forward, the 488's turbo engine is bound to be more highly strung and surely destined to have turbo issues as it ages, and early examples are quickly heading for 10yo.
@jacopoi70476 ай бұрын
Nah the gt3 vs turbo comparison only stands because of n/a vs forced induction. Other than that they are completely different set ups and purposes with the gt3 being much more track focused and pure driving experience while the turbo s is a super sport gt car, and this is due to their set ups not engines. See the gt2rs.

Max was merely using weasel words to get around what he had done. The general idea is you don't move in the "braking zone". His argument therefore was that he didn't move in the braking zone because when he moved he wasn't braking. This is just total crap. The real point of the rule is that when you are racing someone you must pick a line and stick to it on corner entry. And you must leave a cars width on the edge of the circuit for your competitor. If you go one way and then the other you are likely to cause a crash for numerous reasons including the loss of downforce they get when you steal someone else's line (see Baku 2018) or banging into the person you are racing. So max was just being his usual self. He knew he was in the wrong, the team knew it too, but it isn't in their DNA for them to ever admit to having done something wrong. Next race, Lando needs to keep on doing what he did last week. Max won't learn until he's been in the gravel enough times. He hasn't changed at all since 2021; the only reason we haven't seen it until now is that none of the other teams had cars capable of racing him.

Im not saying the m5 is not a m car it will be still immense but the weight issue wont matter than much as your not going flat or as much as you would in a m3 constantly for e.g m3 youd take on track then drive home, how many m5 owners really go on track? M5 is the ultimate long distance european autobahn car 2500kg is heavy but dont see it as a huge issue, will have to wait to see reviews, the bhp/tonne is similar if not more than the last one with 720ps so power isnt a issue. If your wanting ultimate corning yes the weight you will feel well buy a m2.

The power to weight ratio of the last 2 generations has been better than this new one. You'd have to go back to the E60 to find a worse power to weight ratio. I do agree that it's probably best to wait until reviews come out. The M2 is chunky for the class, but a lot of well respected journalists such as Chris Harris say that the car is still better than the last one. At the same time the power to weight ratio is up over the previous generation competition version of the M2. I also don't necessarily agree that it's always been an Autobahn cruiser, the M5 CS was praised as one of the best all round cars because of its lap time around "the ring". I understand that is the CS version but it's still an M5 and BMW wouldn't have put that much effort into making it a great all rounder if straight like speed was all that mattered.

@@mrminiature11who cares about power to weight ratio? The E60 was and still is an unbelievable driving experience, I’m sure this one will be too, BMW are not stupid

I’ve never owned or driven a modern M5 but I bought my e39 M5 back in 2003 and over the three years I owned the car and covered just over 125k miles, it was without the most capable all round car I’ve driven before or since. Yes it performed its duties of being an effortless cruiser but it’s ability to safely overtake traffic from 40 up to very illegal speeds had in my experience no peer and as a B road scratcher it would comfortably outhandle my S2000. Since then I owned an e92 M3 which was fabulous and then one of the first M2’s which TBH was a bit of a disappointment. To me therefore BMW M cars have changed and evolved to where they are now but from what I’ve read from owners of newer cars, not always for the better.

@@-LK34- I was responding to his comment as he mentioned the power to weight ratio. I never said it was the be all and end all to determine if a car is great or not.

No, Joe Achillies opinions on BMW's should ALWAYS be taken tentatively. Why are we regurgitating the bias opinions of self edmitted shill??😂
