I have 3 mini PCs now, ranging from $120-$450. The mid range went to my mother as a tidy replacement for an aging desktop and will be all she needs for the next 5 years. The top tier is my batocera box and runs Switch upscaled to 2x (amd 7735). The low tier, which has the N100, is a dedicated headless Minecraft server drawing about 6W, and I can leave ports open without worrying about my main PC. Getting an N100 or N200 for under $150 makes desktops on SBC like the Pi make little to no sense. These can all run mainline Linux distros and Win11, and are much more versatile in terms of PCIe lanes and I/O, and usually come with decent storage (and their own power adapter!) for that price.

Ahh man, I've been really excited to see this N200 in action! I can't believe the power draw on this thing... Thanks for the videos, man! You always hit all the points I'm curious about. I can't even fathom why the N300 exists. 8 cores and 1 channel of RAM?
@mystermont2019
@mystermont2019 2 ай бұрын
These are low power systems. Ram uses something like 3-6 watts per ram depending on which ddr its using along with its size. If you're going to go with a mini 8 core system and complain about 1 channel ram you shouldn't be buying a low power cpu to begin with and should be looking at 25 watt CPUs along with buying a bigger heat sink for it. These are 15 watt CPUs aimed at light use.

They should've made it with dual channel. It would give so much more power to this pc.

These cut down Intel chips don't support dual channel. But I believe they're made on the assumption you'll be using ddr5 with them and if you are using ddr4, single channel will be more of a bottleneck. So I guess that if anything they should have used ddr5

The price point is too close to Ryzen 5500U mini pc, which is significantly faster then the N200. I mean you can get a Ryzen 5600U for about $200 or even less. If the N200 was in the low $100 it would be an easy choice, but at the current price point it's in a very competitive mini pc segment. I have the Trikey Ryzen 5700U with 32 GB Ram and 500 GB SSD for $260. So you go even $50 - $60 up in price and the mini pc performance is significantly better.

@@the_dude182The argument here is the price. And for the specific unit, it is too for general desktop use. Now there are N100/200 powered Network devices that have 4 Ethernet ports at 2.4Gps. And such. But those are like double the price.

If you are getting a N200 you really should go with DDR5. The RAM will make the system significantly faster. Especially for the GPU. The big difference between the N200 And the N100 is the iGPU. So if you don't really need the iGPU as much go with the N100 it is significantly cheaper.... But then for a similar price, a used Ryzen 2400G or even a 3400G if you are lucky with similar form factor would be much much better....

I recently got a mini PC with an Intel N97 cpu and I have to debloat and optimize Windows 11 so much so that it would run smoothly and efficiently. My main daily driver is Linux and I have that installed on another more powerful mini pc. I got the N97 mini pc for light office tasks and other things that requires a Windows OS while being more power efficient. I have a more powerful Windows PC (my gaming PC)that has all the bells and whistles but I feel its overkill to use that if im just doing office tasks or watching KZbin videos. 😅

Seems like a bit of a missed opportunity here IMO. No USB-C, DDR4 Ram, Single Ethernet Port. I like that the iGPU has more EU but for the pricepoint at bare bones I may as well get an N100 Mini-PC that has a USB-C port, dual Ethernet, DDR5 Ram (included) and an SSD (included). I don't think the small jump in performance is a good trade-off for the other features not included.

At $300 for a marginal spec config of 8Gb ram, 512Gb storage... this is not a budget machine in 2023, you are definitely paying a premium for the small form factor. Its a system that shows how stagnant PC performance on the lower end hardware market has been for years. I have a 4 year old acer desktop (ITX form factor) that cost the same and performs the about the same except for the power draw. At least I can add a low profile GPU if I need more performance on that one. This only being capable of single channel memory hurts its performance potential the most.

Decent for a server, but for emulation and games AMD is still far better, especially when 8000 series APU's come along.

I think they are just referring to them as "Intel Processor" now... I know, rolls of the tongue, doesn't it? Similar SKUs were called Celeron and Pentium last generation if I recall.

When you can get a small box that runs Cyberpunk on high settings for around $900 then this is not worth buying.

I think he mentioned it in the video. The n200's GPU is about 1.9x faster than the n100's. Look at notebookcheck for 3dmark results.
