Gen 7 was built with road racing in mind and took some inspiration from GT3 cars but I think it fails to realize why GT3 works so well A: GT3 has ABS and TCS which allow drivers to go for wild divebombs into corners without the fear of locking up which you can't really do in the gen 7 car B: a key element of their parity system is that instead of making all cars the same they give each car strengths and weaknesses while still resulting in similar lap times. So if we take a Ford Mustang vs a Porsche 911 the Mustang accels in the long straights with its high HP V8 but falls in the corners due to its high weight while the 911 accels in the corners due to its rear engine layout giving it more drive on exit but falls on the straights due to less HP.

Gen 6 had a whole bunch of variants based on tracks. Why can't we have certain aero pieces removed for certain tracks
@Matt_80003 ай бұрын
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
@grahamcrackergaming15403 ай бұрын
They do. Ever since 2023 they kept the same full diffuser with 4 inch spoiler with 670hp they ran with at every track in 2022, aside from superspeedways, at intermediates, with the 7 Inch spoiler, full diffuser and 510hp at SS. But ovals 1 mile and under and also road courses kept the 670hp but reduced the spoiler down to 2 inches and removed 3 diffuser strakes, engine panel strakes and trimming the diffuser’s outer fencing. All this to make the racing better at short ovals and road courses. What happened? Short tracks were still lackluster, and road courses with the removed stage yellows were hit or miss depending on who u ask. This year 2024, they changed it again. Bristol still kept the same aero package for short ovals from 2023, but other short ovals and road courses now run a 3 inch spoiler with barely a diffuser there. Ya literally look at pictures of it, it’s literally like 2 diffuser strakes and it’s smaller.

“It’s expensive” while every team says that it would cost almost nothing
@limprooster32532 ай бұрын
@@Angelmunoz_19 Both are correct. It would cost almost nothing to make the engines they have 900+ horsepower. It's literally just a matter of removing the tapered spacer (read: restrictor plate) and flashing a new tune on the ECU. BUT the engine would be turning 9-10k RPM instead of the 7k we have now, and would wear much faster. So over the course of the season the 900 HP package would be far more expensive than the 650. But to do it for one race? Yeah that's pretty cheap. The reality is the car has too much mechanical grip, and we can't fix that with aero changes when the car only reaches 130 mph on the straights. The real answer is going to be narrower tires, smaller brakes, and maybe more ballast. If you want passing, the slow cars need to actually be slow, and that requires some tire fall off
@Angelmunoz_192 ай бұрын
@@limprooster3253 The only way to reduce costs is to allow teams to make their own parts, since now they're forced to purchase from another party.
@limprooster32532 ай бұрын
@@Angelmunoz_19 I can't say I agree with that. It may be cheaper for the teams to make the exact same part in-house than to buy it from Nascar's approved supplier, but the problem is the teams can't be trusted to actually make the same part. They start trying to find an advantage, which to be fair, is their job, and then teams who can afford to make 20 versions of the same part start finding those advantages faster than lower budget teams, and you end up with the same runaway problem we had with Gen 6. It's just like with the engines. It may be cheaper for the teams to make that hood vent than it is for them to buy it, but it's still cheaper for all of the teams to buy them than make 5 different iterations of it looking for an advantage. The savings is in discouraging teams from monkeying with the parts.

Take away stage racing and bring back the whole race. Get rid of double file restarts, this only takes away the win from the driver that earned it, and for good sake, put the damn number back at the center of the door. Here are some examples: Kyle Busch’s Daytona 500 race he got damaged and it took him the whole race to make a decent recovery for one simple damage. Kyle Busch’s darlington wreck he was involved in a wreck and one of his wheels stopped moving cause of a light tap from brad and ended his day. Josh berry had fixable damage and was also done Ross chastain 2022 500 crash he didn’t have damage at all and he was done so was Alex bowman. More specific about the 1 lug nut deal/ why it was a cost cutting deal: Nascar wanted a larger wheel. Because most cars don't use a 15 inch diameter wheel. So 18 inches was chosen. But if you use a steel 18 inch wheel then it becomes way heavier. Not gonna work for racing. So then they wanted to use a 18 inch aluminum wheel. But the proplem is if you use the 5 lug pattern on a aluminum wheel it will be prone to cracking after repeated hard use in short amount of time there by making the teams buy too many new wheels...making it too expensive. So after nascar talking with BBS who makes the wheels they use on the current gen 7 car, BBS told nascar we've got decades of reliable repeated use of wheels with one lug nut design. So nascar went with the 1 lug nut design so the teams could re-use the wheels again and again like they did with the black steel 5 lug nut aero series 59 wheels on the older generation car....1 lug nut wheels made some fans mad about that. I like the 5 lug nut set-up. Its better pit road theather for the fans. One lug nut? Too easy. No visual drama there. Looks like it takes less skill.

The tires have been a total failure both with the 1 lug design and with the "option tire" thats supposed to wear out but doesnt. The flat tire saga is a mess, all theses years and still cant figure out cars flipping is also a fail. The cars look really nice (aside from the numbers location) but other than the cookie cutters they are awful. Its telling where the sport is as a whole that one of the VP's has to explain a decision or part of the race almost every single week now. They basically have IROC. It's a stain , this ain't the 2000s and the 90s anymore. Motorsports have changed.

I thought the racing in 2022 was pretty good. Today, I feel like it should be tweaked at certain tracks. Short tracks are suffering the most. I really like the sound of these cars as well.

Gives us more horsepower or gives us less grip. These cars are way too easy to drive for the best in motorsports. If you want to stop the gridlock you have to get these drivers to make mistakes.
@EstebanRapido2 ай бұрын
The lack of an inner liner is the largest mistake here. I was all for the new car until its second race in Fontana. Once I saw the beached cars and learned that the new tires didn't have space for an inner liner, I knew this car was doomed. Those beached cars have caused far too much disruption, ruining far too many drivers races and have lengthened yellow flag periods. Then there is the danger. One thing goes wrong at 200mph and suddenly the car is completely out of control. If the inner liner was still there, the driver would have a better chance at controlling the car. This whole sport is a joke now. I don't want to watch races. It's not worth my time anymore.

NASCAR has made a car which has taken the drivers out of the equation. Has to be plowing tight. No passing opportunities. Need to have stages to have passing. Plate racing puts these guys into boxes. All track position no passing. They're killing the sport. Xfinity is way better than cup. At least they have some driver talent there.

you realize that nascar cup had the 3 closest finishes in history this season, actually the gen 7 cars tell who the good drivers are, it actually focuses more the drivers skill because of parity even though the top teams still are better but the field is closer than it used to be it’s the so called fake fans that complain about everything that are the problem!

@@miketwotwenty Closest finishes aren't really a good metric to go by when its tons of Double file restarts GWC's and overtimes every Race. I think the big problem here is that the Races are structured to force these manufactured Scenarios rather than a test of endurance and speed.

Everyone races under the same rules. Who cares? Whoever does it best from setup to qualifying to pit stops to strategy to driving- wins. But even when someone does that, Larson at Bristol, there are still complaints. Let's be honest, if the car was perfect, NASCAR fans would still find something to complain about.
