Great camera, bought the D90 back in 2008 and have used it until last year 2022 when mirror got stuck while traveling through Korea. Tried every trick found on the web without success, and repairing seemed more than the camera was worth. Did some research and decided to go with Sony A7M4 and two zoom lens in Korea, paying about 20% less than if I had bought them back in the US. I was so attached to D90, I held onto it; and while traveling through the Philippines, found a camera shop that was able to repair it for less than $70. Love both cameras.

Your story is very much like mine. I started out with a D40 and then moved to the D90. I got it for the ability to use the older lens. I loved my D90 and only upgrade to a D7200 for the 2 SD slots. It is my backup camera and I wont get rid of it. One of the best DSLR cameras Nikon ever made in my opinion.

Definitely ! I brought mine while trekking in Scotland, Japan, Finland countless times. The worst weather possible hasn't killed this camera. Pretty much immortal. Even now, nearly 15 years after I bought it, still working perfectly. Also, as long as you don't attempt to make videos, a single battery lasts for days. Compared to newest models that's a huge benefit.

i bought the Nikon D90 in 2010. It was my choice against newer cameras for the balance between price and performance. I haven't used it a lot beyond 2012, and it was basically in the bag. I haven't been too much into photography and don't have other cameras to compare it with, apart from my iPhone, but I really liked this video today. @888timesmart Жыл бұрын
@@tourinojacks5844 The 750 is by far the best in low light since it is full frame. After that, I think the other two are close, but operate pretty differently. For travel, the 5600 is smaller and has the swivel screen. The 7000 has more features, faster shutter, dual cards and such. But for being so old, the 90 still astonishes in color and sharpness.

Stumbled here after seeing a review of the D90. First camera for me was the Nikon D50. I thought it was amazing and was impressed with the vibrant colors and the fact that it seemed to make my photography better than I was able to do. later I abandoned Nikon for Canon after too much research. One thing that is a noticeable distinction between the two is the interchangeability of lenses between the Rebel and the xxd series Canons. Of note particularly is the IS capability - still interchangeable between the entire camera lineup. This has become more prominent as the DSLR market ages. There are a LOT of lenses available on the used market. Although I have a soft spot in my heart still for Nikon, I have capitulated to the incredible number of options of Canon in terms of lenses, at least. OF course, once you have invested in glass, it sets your direction for a long time. Still love the Nikons though...
@BoostLeekdMedia10 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing! Interesting experiences you had with your Canon cameras and lenses. It seems that Canon and Nikon were neck and neck in terms of photography and lenses. Canon definitely has the upperhand for video performance though. But totally agree with you about the glass. A good piece of glass, goes a long ways in your photography journey. Appreciate you sharing your experiences.

That's exactly what happened to me. I bought the D90 ( I was one of the first) in Japan in 2008 . I remember I chosen it "blind" , without looking at the brand . I just held it and looking through the viewfinder, comparing it with canon , pentax and sony . Now I have other cameras ( M4/3 ) but....I cannot get rid of the D90 and I actually still prefer it. There something special about this camera!

I bought my D90 in 2009, then a Sony NEX 7 in 2011, and then a Nikon D800 in 2013. I love them all and still use them all. The D800 is for my serious art work, but when travelling on holiday I have my trusty Crumpler bag with a 2 rig set-up. The NEX 7 has its 18-55 lens (and I have printed flawless 1 metre wide shots with this) and the D90 has a Sigma 10-20. This pair gives me everything I need for my travel photography needs. The Sony NEX 7 is still awesome, but the build quality of the Nikon's is incredible.

I bought my D90 in 2010, racked up more than 100,000 images shooting everything from landscapes to high school sports. (I taught high school for 5 years). Mine has survived subzero shooting, salt spray, and years of hard use -- I don't baby my cameras. I bought a D7000 a few years ago as an upgrade, but kept having autofocus issues (common for that model). I sent it back and got a replacement which had similar issues. Ended up getting a D300. The biggest reason to not get a D90 today is that a D300 is roughly the same price. I've had enough old screw-drive AF lenses that needed a slight AF fine tune and the D90 doesn't have that feature. However, the D90 does about 1/2 stop better at high ISO. Still, both are great cameras!

My first DSLR was the D3200 i still currently have. When i was first looking into getting into DSLRs a few years ago the D90 was still one of the top ones to pick up. But at the time they were not very affordable to someone like me who was just making the transition from Digital zoom cameras like the Coolpix L120. Even then it still took me a few years to even get my D3200. When i started looking at this level of camera the D3000s were just coming out. But now that i am in a better position financially i am seriously considering the idea of picking up a used D90 as well as a D7000 or 7100 to have as secondary cameras to use with my D3200 which i may still end up picking up a spare one of that body as well.
@BoostLeekdMedia Жыл бұрын
I think the D7000 (or even the D7100) would make for a nice camera to partner up with your D3200. The only reason I would go with the D90 is the price of one compared to the D7100. I haven't seen the D7100 go lower than $300 around my town but I have seen plenty of D90's on sale for under $150 but those are gone almost immediately.
@OutlawH2 Жыл бұрын
@BoostLeekd Media on the site I'm looking at them on they are comparable in price. They have the D3200s at great prices too that's why I might grab a spare D3200 or D3300 as well. That way I can have different lens set ups as well as settings. Making for being highly adaptable for various shooting conditions.

@PeterR0035 Жыл бұрын
In 2010, I used a D90 for about 6 months and quickly sold it again because I missed the aperture sensor ring (I needed that for MF lenses). I kind of still miss it; it has a 2nd gen sensor (a very nice Sony CMOS, where most other camera's had CCD sensors at the time) and was actually better than a Nikon D300 or even a D2x... Nice that it came in the package of a D40; small, lightweight. At the time I only used it with AF-S lenses because they were a lot faster focusing than AF-D lenses (the AF CPU and the motor in the D90 for AF-D are not that fast/strong).
@BoostLeekdMedia Жыл бұрын

however, I would prefer the next generation or the d7000 option, which can keep up with the latest cameras with its own capabilities. d500 and d850 are better options, but mostly irrelevant or less important.

I've been recently shooting with an Olympus EM5 the past few years and love the size and capability... But definitely been curious to pull my D90 back out and compare. It was my main camera from 2012 to 2018. Miss using the glass, feels like a waste just having that body and my other lenses sitting in the cupboard. Considering moving to the z line just so I can keep using my lenses.

Just bought a used D90 for travel in mint condition. Downloaded the new software. Love its features snd use of older AF lens. Doesn’t have the low light performance of my d7100 but I am learning to deal with that. A bit easier to carry than the d7100. A very solid camera. Also just acquired a Nikkor 18-70 f3.5-4.5 which is a solid walk around lens. Would you recommend a tamron 18-200 all in one but would there be a degradation in performance over nikon lens?
@BoostLeekdMedia Жыл бұрын
The 18-200 is a very fun lens. I haven't gotten the Tamron version but I know the Nikon version, the one I have, is a bit soft at the higher focal lengths. Thank you for sharing!

I'm still using the D90 as my main camera, and it works great, takes great pictures, and if it gets lost, damaged, or stolen, I'm not out a whole lot of money....Some of the higher end lenses I use with it are worth more than the camera body itself, but these days even good quality DSLR lenses have been falling in price, as more and more folks switch to mirrorless. Personally though, I prefer having an optical viewfinder and long battery life. 12 megapixels is plenty for me.
@BoostLeekdMedia Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! And, totally agree. If the camera and lens falls and for some reason, the lens survives, and the body doesn't, I would be too discouraged as well.

I recently bought a Nikon D90 at a garage sale for $10 (no lens, don't know if it works or not - how can I tell? Yes, it has a battery & charger) ....I've only used point and shoot cameras. I'd like to use it to get started on KZbin. What lens would be an all-purpose to start with? Thanks!!!!
@BoostLeekdMedia2 ай бұрын
Depends on your budget. But If you can get the 18-55 lens for it (just to start out with), that is one lens I would suggest. 2 other lenses I would suggest is the 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G ED IF AF-S DX lens. If you can find that 18-70mm lens for under $50, it's a great lens to start out with. I hope this helps. The D90 is still a very neat camera.

The Nikon D90's FPS is 4.5, and that's okay but it's challenging especially for fast moving subjects. Have you changed the Continuous mode to High? Take a look at page 65 of the D90's Manual and you can see how to switch it from Low to High.

the 18-105 is a very nice lens. Much better than the 18-55. As for any lens with that aperture range, you'll get better image quality from it during the day when you have a lot of light to work with. I hope this helps!

I'm about to buy one, here in Brazil cameras are extremely expensive. I want to start photography and in doubt between it, t2, d3000, etc. I'm opting for it... what do you think? in 2024 is it worth it?
@BoostLeekdMediaАй бұрын
Depends what your budget is and how much you will be using the camera. I think the D90 is still an excellent choice when it's against the D3000 and Canon T2, especially since the D90 can autofocus with the older (and possibly more affordable) Nikon AF-D lenses. I think the D90 is still a very good and capable camera in 2024-2025, especially if you're on a budget.

D90 vs d5200 which better for beginners photography
@BoostLeekdMedia Жыл бұрын
Depending on your budget, I have seen most of the D90's for sale for less than the D5200. While the D5200's image sensor is better, the D90 can utilize the older AF-D Nikon lenses. The older AF-D lenses will not autofocus with the D5200. So, if you are starting out with photography on a budget, I would suggest the D90.

I like how you van view the photos you make on your phone(android) and even directly use it on Lightroom on your android. Is there a way or a tool out there to add this type of functionality to the d90? (Wireless if possible)

Funnily enough, I gave my wife a D40 with the 18-55 & 55-200 kit lenses. The first thing she said was " Does it do video?" CEX is a second hand electrical entertainment retail franchise here in Europe and I can get a D90 for £95 or a D5000 for £80. What would you recommend?
@BoostLeekdMedia Жыл бұрын
It really depends on what kind of photography you're doing. At least with the D5000, you get the articulating screen and a slightly better video performance. Personally, I would still get the D90 because you can utilize more lenses with it versus the D5000.

@BoostLeekdMedia2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, there are not best settings as it really depends on how much light you are working with. Because settings will be different from morning, afternoon and evening. So, there isn't one best setting. If you want good portraits with it, you can use the focal lengths between 85-105 to get okay separation between the subject and background.

I have been looking at the Nikon D7100/D7000 bodies. I have the Z30, Z50, Z5... just looking for a Dslr for a bounce around take on the street camera. Any thoughts about these bodies. I saw your video the 7000's which is how I found this video... thanks! Oh, I mainly do people photography... portraits...
@BoostLeekdMedia Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think the D7000 bodies are excellent. Especially if you can find them for a great price. From what I'm seeing, depending on the condition the bodies, I have seen the D7000 bodies go for under $200 and I've seen plenty for under $150 but those are almost immediately sold. So, that's a sign that they're still VERY popular. I still remember the D90 and D7000 era as well. But the D7000 definitely had the better tech. Either way, the great thing about the D7000 is that you can utilize the amazing line of Nikon lenses.
