I truly wish I would have found your channel a year or two ago. I was caught up in the hype of the Nox 800 and really hated it for the money spent and I was not impressed. Then I started watching all of your live dig videos with the Deus. I am happy to report I purchased a Deus I three weeks ago and it is awesome for what I doing. I was contemplating buying the Deus II, but after watching your "one on one open thought" videos you grounded me in a sense, I have come to my senses that I do not need the deepest machine and need something more suitable to my conditions I dig in. Couldn't be more happy with the Deus and not at all worried about the Deus II because I am growing more confidence everyday while using that awesome Stock Hot Program. Sorry for the long winded comment, but I truly am thankful for all the time and videos you create, it definitely takes alot of the beginning guess work out of the equipment and strategy being used in your videos. Long Live the Predator Phoenix!

Great common sense video Jeremy. YOu've convinced me to stay with my Nox 800. I've had the 800 for about 6 months and I'm still learning. Yesterday I was able to get out for an hour and I go back to the area I have hunted for the last 45 years. And since I have removed bags full of can slaw and pull tabs, I've been able to listen more closely to the tones. Also since the weather conditions change not only the sounds, it changes the depth range of the targets I dig now. I'm finding more Nickles AND deeper silver. No where near enough hours on the Nox to really appreciate it's capabilities IMO, so I stickin' with it until I actually learn how to run it efficiently. Thanks again for this video, and keep swingin'. My list of detectors I've used in the past: Bounty Hunter; Garret; Whites, and now the Nox.

Hi and thank you so much for your videos, you're an inspiration! I have detected for more than 35 years give or take and you sir, 'hit the nail on the head' with this video. I have had my fair share of detectors in my time, Minelab, Tesoro, Fischer, Deus 1, etc (I could go on), and I have concluded that we don't always get what we pay for. The strength of the detector is dependent on the person who is using it, and we detectorists are a mixed bag of abilities, bot physical and mental. I detect in U.K and I decided to buy a Simplex+ and I have not regretted that decision once. I always think that it strange that the more one detects, the more one seem to find....strange that eh. People often get so obsessed with performance they forget to have fun too, and we should enjoy the exercise and the banter when you're with a mate in the fields. There will always be detector snobs in our hobby with more money than sense like in most hobbies. Thanks again from me here in U.K. Hope you like my youtube channel too. Fight on brother and keep up with the videos, they make my day and are so educational.

I've been detecting for 30 years mate. I lived in the UK and chased hammered silver for years with a Whites DFX and then a Minelab explorer. I moved to the New England in the USA and now I hunt cellar holes. The more Iron the better. Mostly pounded sites but I do find the odd thing in the Iron 😁My finds rate definitely went up when I got the Nox 800. I love it (hate the build quality) and know it well, but I think I will be getting a Deus 2 for its Iron separation abilities if I see enough real world proof as my friend is getting one. In my detecting environment Iron separation is key, depth means very little. Thanks for the videos, its inspirational the way you detect where you are...you make me want to head out and dig a bunch of foil and tabs to get some Gold mate! In fact a checked a local park, sparse on the coin signals but heaps of foils and tabs 😎 Cheers! Happy New year to you!

Hey Jeremy, I guess that I’m a different type of Detectorist. I am going after the deep targets. I use the Equinox 800 and if at all possible the largest coil available. I have both the Minelab 15” and the Coiltek 15” Coils. I’m not too interested in the modern upper layer stuff, clad especially. Jewelry… well that’s the exception of course. Anyhow, in the areas I hunt you have to go deep 8 to 12 inches for more interesting stuff, at least more interesting to me. The 1960s and older coins and artifacts, probably because I’m gonna be 59 this year. I need depth out of my detector and a slow pace in order to fish out those deep targets. I especially like the pre-1950s stuff and a lot of people have hunted where I hunt and that in itself is very satisfying, the ability to fish out a V-Nickel, a Buffalo Nickel or a Mercury Dime out of a deep hole, by listening for the faintest of signals. So yeah… I really prefer a machine that goes deep and offers a modicum of discrimination. The biggest failing of the Equinox is its small range of TID numbers. That’s why it’s so important to not just rely on the numbers, but the tones too for me. I had the Deus years ago. I believe it was before the 2.0 update and absolutely hated it. I gave it six months and was absolutely discouraged by the lack of depth and it’s constant falsing on iron. It’s not that I’m slow and couldn’t figure out the “complicated settings.” Hell, I had much better and consistent luck with the Blisstool V3 and preferred that over the early Deus. The Blisstool, in my opinion, should have been a harder machine to learn and to have success with… but it wasn’t. So to sum it all up… I may give Deus a second try if the depth capability is not a myth, for the hunting I do.

Spot on in everything you say Jeremy, there's a lot of smoke and mirrors out there nowadays, social media has muddied the waters with everything including metal detecting, people are running around chasing their tails over the next "latest & greatest" wonder machine instead of taking the time to truly connect to both their current machines and the hobby as a whole, there's a lot of KZbin 'wannabe guru' types performing ridiculously stupid tests that have no relevance on a machines performance when out in the field, I have zero time for self styled experts, I get the impression that most are more bothered about getting as many views and subscribers as possible than actually creating anything of substance, "It's all about the likes man", something has been lost along the way, for me detecting has always been a 'sensory' experience, a pure tones game, I can't help thinking that the modern machines are taking those two elements away, it's like entertainment modules are being produced with a shaft and coil added on for effect. When we've got grown men and adults using terms like "Nox Killer", it makes me wonder when it all went wrong 😅

Look I currently use the one frequency machine called simplex, I don’t feel cheated, one day I get the multiple frequencies machine, I’m sure it will help, I just don’t got the money to go beyond my means, I just rolled up 100.00 in quarters that’s last 5 years so I’m ok not jealous yet
@daveromano30992 жыл бұрын
A multi frequency detector is not always a good thing, there’s a lot going on there that can cause you to miss good targets, in a lot of cases a 12 khz detector(simplex)can outperform those multi’s!..Just have to know how to work those settings and modes!

I agree 110% with you Jeremy! I despise air tests and bucket tests. Only time I air test is if the ground is so quiet, I want to make sure my detector is working lol. My deepest coin was a 12-13 inch Indian cent with the simplex, no VDI but I could hear a faint good tone. Also hit a half dime at 11 inches with the Simplex. I'm really interested in the Legend and want to see how it is side x side with the Simplex, in the field. Thanks for all your input and knowledge.

I used to specifically target quarters and clean out the easy stuff first. Several times in areas nobody had ever detected I would make 15 to over 20 dollars an hour on quarters only but it`s tiring. I`d go for about two hours max and return the next day. When quarters were gone I hunted dimes, then nickles and gold rings last. Now my current focus is deep silver coins and relics. You didn`t like the Vanquish but that`s the only detector I can afford to try this with but I just got it and have practiced with it some but haven`t dug any targets yet. I`ve been studying it. There are some very old gardens and very old home sites and swimming holes and party areas here I have to myself. I found a silver half dollar with a Bounty Hunter in the area and needed a detector with superior depth and target ID to continue hunting here.

Soil type is huge, but take that away and the biggest factor is knowing your detector. I've had the simplex for some time, live in N IL, and have just destroyed deep/iron infested targets in the field. Im very curious about the deus 2, but I want to know if I do pull the trigger on it and take the time to be well versed in that detector, will I pull deeper/more iron masked targets than I would with my simplex. In a low iron area, I'm not sure there would be too much of a difference. The key for me is determining if the deus 2 will scope on good targets in some of my 1800s field sites that are just covered in iron, like black smith sites, old barn sites, and some home sites. The relic program on the deus 2 looks very impressive, but I don't know if that program can, or is intended for lowering or notching iron volume. Looking forward to your tests. Please put the simplex up against the deus 2 on the targets you know the simplex struggles, or can't hit at all. Thank you for your dedication! All the best buddy!

I use the Coiltek 9.5x6 elliptical on my Nox on iron infested sites. I adjust the recovery speed very high sometimes and it beats the Deus 1 with the HF elliptical 9.5x5 between iron. But I am preferring the deus 1 on ploughed fields. The Nox kills it on the beach and it is great on pasture too and between iron. So I use both D1 and Nox I also have a Garrett 400i with all the coils for deep soft sand, pasture and specialist areas.

i here you buddy.Simplex user hear (over 1000hrs) i have a test pit in my garden, has all the factor of real detecting out in the field. I hear you on the air tests, but with perfect soil conditions a detector can have greater depth especially when wet and if the item has been in the ground alot of years and produced a "halo effect". In the uk i have dug buckles buttons coins at a foot deep, a bronze aged axe head if i remember rightly was dug at 18 inch depth. Its a shame disclosure on the legend, as your the man i wanted to follow putting it through its paces.Take care my friend. p.s i have a vid on my channel simplex hitting 12 inch coins

Hey streak, I dug a large penny in a civil war site, really good ground, no EMI, 14” with a Teknetics Mark one LTD, 12” hot head coil. The 10” was a awesome coil too. The mark one was so unique, it was a 1-2 filter that dropped to one in good ground, over 30 years ago, we hit 12” bullets. Technology wise, I loved the Minelab explorer, smartfind screen was awesome too, it was stable on wet salt, very deep but killed my shoulder/arm. I personally wished for a waterproof explorer, quality build, ergonomics but it never happened

Hey Paysteak , have you seen the user manual on the Legend?? It looks complicated. As for the deepest coin I have dug ……. 10” and I actually find most of my best coins and tokens in the 6”-9” depth. I only hunt private permission (old homes) and I can get away with digging these depths by carefully refilling the hole. Any deeper and homeowners frown on seeing large dirt mounds to find an old coin. Plus it takes lots of time to dig that deep. I like you,want to get to the next target , and the next. I use a 23year old fisher CZ5 and am getting good results with an ORX also. I must say the Deus2 looks good but is very expensive. The Legend is affordable but looks complicated. Time will tell. What you say in this video is true. I am an expert with the CZ series of detectors. Many years experience with them I got into the hobby in 1976 , I am 59 now and this hobby has been great to me . Keep up the good work with your videos …. Tony

Exactly! When using any metal detector, once you've located a target, the most important decision is "do I dig" or "not dig"? So, it boils down to how much trust one gives to the detector, bearing in mind that the VDI numbers are hardly accurate in telling you what the target really is for ALL machines. So the determining factor would be depth capability, and how deep you are "willing" to dig, bearing in mind that most of the time, the deeper targets will be junk. Most seasoned detectorists hunt in wide open, so most of the detector features are irrelevant.

Hi Jeremy. I have 3 main detectors that do everything I need for my style of hunting. The Deus 2 and nokta legend really need to prove themselves before I go anywhere near them. My ultimate machine is one that is the master of separation. I don't care about depth unless it's on the beach. Stuff digging 12 inch targets in a park. Too many variables right! And can be dangerous lol. Target separation is what I want and I have it pretty good right now. Cheers. Great video once again.

My main consideration in potentially moving from the Deus to the Deus II is this - if it handles salt environments as well as the claims go, I'll almost certainly make that move. The 1 or 2 wet sand tests I've seen of the II, are very promising. I've only seen one actual dive video with it, and I'm not as sold in that department, but even just SOLID wet sand/shallow water performance will win me over. A machine of that quality, combined with the ergonomics/light weight, etc., that can also do well in salt would be something I'd love to have in the arsenal.

I bought a Deus 1, 6 months ago and I am getting to grips with it. I found a lot today but no silver, Why? Because I did not manage to put the coil over any silver. I found historical items and quite a few and I would say on ploughed fields the Deus 1 could actually beat the Nox for quantity of finds and with more comfort. But most detectors could find great finds. Most is luck on club digs but some is judging where to swing the coil. Someone can find nothing all day then hit on a big gold coin 3” deep just by luck. Air tests do not work because there is no soil and dirt box tests are not realistic because the coil is not moving over the soil. When you swing the coil it ‘Sees’ not only the target moving but also several cubic feet of earth moving too and any iron in the earth. The coil sees the target and all the earth moving from its perspective. 👍

The sad fact is that most metal detector users don't understand the laws of physics. The obsession with depth is rife in the metal detecting world. Until a completely new technology for metal detecting comes there will be nothing at all to gain regarding depth in buying new detectors . VLF has hit the limits many years ago but 99% of detectorists will not accept the fact.
@Bootyhunter19712 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. I agree "raw depth" has been maxed, but reaching that max depth while ignoring soil minerals and trash iron can be improved upon and I think itay have been with one of these new machines. So while simple raw depth is not the answer, unmasking and adjacent target interference can be improved upon drastically.

I thought that I need to fully understand the equinox before even thinking of trying to learn something new, and different. Also, just the other day digging I thought to myself, why would I really want to dig anymore than 8” anyway. And to that point, and you have more experience than me, how many targets do really get normally more than 6-8” deep max? Me, not many, so depth isn’t a huge concern . Your videos and comments are straight forward, You show the bad stuff as wel .. i do like the fact that you pull out maximum performance of any detector .. .. you really use them hardcore . I had many detectors , probably more then i could afford , but the need for an extra ingredient was always an excuse.. But after all i had , all i tried , my vaquero pulled out my most and unique finds , by far. And this is just a fact. Even while i am running a Deus now (1) .. my sold Vaquero was a magic wand ( one tone , but more nuances in one tone then detectors having 50 tones ) Regrets all over , period , happy with the Deus (1 ) don’t get me wrong ... Great , fast and superb audio detector.. But my finds where in no way increasing since i bought it over the Vaquero , in no way at all.

I have an Anfibio Multi and I do pretty well with it in terrible soil and heavy iron(At least I think I do well)… I will likely sell it an get the Legend because it’s seems to have less settings and is actually cheaper than the Anfibio. The Legend shouldn’t be a huge learning curve for me because I have used Nokta/Makro detectors for years. Can someone explain “hot soil” and what those numbers may be when ground balancing the Anfibio? I’m actually still learning the Anfibio an I always wonder if I should be in 5, 14, or 20 MHz in hot soil or heavy iron. I don’t get much time detecting so I usually go in 3 tone using 14Mhz. I always feel like I’m wasting time playing with settings I’m unfamiliar with in the field! Anyways… great video ,happy hunting , and happy new year!

So true. I watched a guy with a soil box saying "oh wow it hits it at 18"s." The numbers are sketchy as and barely registering and I know I would never bother digging crap like that. I totally agree. Real world digs are the only thing worth watching. I have a nox800 and a simplex as a backup. I have ordered a legend because I want a new machine to use and learn as I've mastered the equinox and the multifrequency definitely outperforms the simplex in certain locations and especially high EMI environments. Know you're machine. I buried a 9" clad quarter at the park months ago,,took 15 minutes to refind it, it was a little iffy of a signal but I knew. This was with Eurotek Pro with the tiger coil. It's a simple machine, and I do not feel like other machines are really pulling much more than what this can retrieve also. Though I do want the Teknetiks Patriot F/70 next. From what I've seen its an Excellent worker in the heavy iron sites. Was really concedering nokta Impact. But there's too little footage of anyone swinging or desiring this model.

The Deus 2 isn't a dolled up Deus 1. I donno if the Deus 1 has the X-Y Screen or ... a kind of graph screen... BUT the Deus 2 does. Deus 2 also has some kind of bottle cap blocker. Which like you say... does it work in the ground? Doesn the Cap blocker also get rid of gold rings? Legend I believe... is a dolled up Nox... It has better water proof design... it's stronger... it has the little Iron bar thing WHICH I believe is the same as iron volume, it might have a smiggion more to identify but basically... just another nox . I think the Deus 2 is going to SHINE SHINE SHINE !! And I've laid my 1600 smackers down for it. IF NOT... won't be the first time I wasted my money !!! LOL Good Video.

The best settings are the ones you have for the site. Every soil and site is different.
@James-dtexTexas2 жыл бұрын
I somewhat agree with your point but also have to disagree on the bases that for example, brand “ X “ can air test at a maximum of 5 inches and brand “Y “ can test at a maximum of 7 inches, it’s reasonable to say that the “Y “ can detect deeper than “ X “.

Air tests do not put the detector under load. How the detector handles the ground is the real test. Minerals, wet ground, EMI, durability......

Hi Jeremy, you are a real expert and I love the way you test metaldetectors so I have a question : I at the moment I have the anfibio (also had the simplex). Think the anfibio is a real chattery machine above 89 and other programs then 3-tone. And of course the overload problem. Does the legend have also the overload problem...? Can you tune the recovery speed separately from the gain? Thank you for your inspiration Thinking of selling the anfibio.
@PaystreakSuperfreak2 жыл бұрын
The Anfibio recovery speed is very slow above 89 gain and 3 tone is the most stable. The only settings I can use the Anfibio in my soil is 3 tone at 89 gain 20khz. The Anfibio is very much disabled by the overload tone. The Legend does not have the overload issue. The recovery speed being separate from gain is a huge advancement with the Legend. My opinion Multi frequency machines have a place and that is in wet sand. I do not use multi frequency on machines very often. The Legend has one big issue right now.....no 9" coil. The LG28(11") coil makes the Legend very unbalanced and awkward to swing around for more than a couple hours. The LG15(6") coil can only cover so much ground and is not quite deep enough for all around use. The Legend is still badass and you would like it very much compared to the Anfibio.

Sir, I'm new to metal detecting and been watching a lot of videos and now i'm more confused about it all. I know i'm new but I'm willing to learn the machine. I don't need all the bells and whistles. I want something that works and that I can grow with and have fun a long the way. I'm retired military and ready to have some fun metal detecting. Thank you sir.

I have learned so much from your good advice, when I started with my new machine "anfibio" I was all worried about depth now I'm more worried about separation. Like you said you can't find deep targets till you clean up all the shallow targets first, which makes so much sense. So now when I go out with the anfibio I hunt in three tone at 89 for faster recovery, I would like to drop the sensitivity level much lower but then I'm losing recovery speed! As for the overload I'm not having much trouble with that, the only time I get that is when I sweep over big item.

I've used mostly analog machines all my years of detecting and I can tell you that the majority of these finds that people are making with these new high tech machines I know I would have found the majority of them with my bounty hunter tracker lV,, lt's about location location location,, Enough said,,,
@PaystreakSuperfreak2 жыл бұрын
In my eyes the older analog machines are some of the top performers still. The older machines do better in the EMI and most of them are based on the same concepts of "dialing in" and stabilizing the detectors to different soils. Nowadays the machines have too many settings and features that make it difficult to tune into the soils. The added features on digital detectors take time to learn and just a whole lot of button pushing and not digging. The older machines are not waterproof and not durable enough for harsh terrain and the spare parts are almost impossible to find. Tesoro Lobo and Sabre are absolute beasts!! Location is almost everything nowadays. These new machines probably not that much better in performance than the machines we have now.

I always thought air testing is a waste of time. Haven't had rain in months?....then a month or rain.....big difference. I detect in the woods often. Learned a lot doing that vs in a field
@horseman5282 жыл бұрын
I still got 6 Tesoro's. Tesoro's are the only detectors that can tell a nickel from a square pulltab. When you swing your coil over the target, you roll the disc. knob forward, and the nickel will always go out before the square pull-tab will. And if it does, its a nickel nearly every time. I don't want to dig down a foot. First of all it makes a mess and second of all, its tiring and monotonous. I metal detect to relax and have fun, not to dig to China. The Vaquero can hit a quarter at one foot if after you have ground balanced it you turn the gb knob a quarter turn back to the negative and then jack up the threshold. Scannerguy did it on a video one time. and I have buried quarters that it would hit deep.

air tests are 100% bs for sure. what i do like to watch though , is a known well tested machine , like Deus . vs the Deus 2 . yes there will be people that set it up to fail by adjusting it etc. but equal settings , equal conditions . now we got most likely the most tested machine vs a brand new one , and if the D2 can match or beat it right out of the box, that tells me , this might be great , atleast not worse.

My view is the only way to compare machines is to use the same target undisturbed. Find a target, switch to a different machine, see what it says. Conditions need to be identical and noted. Both machines run in the same modes, (all metal, discrimination). There are meters that can measure and ID EMI. In Ham Radio we use a spectrograph to see activity at different frequencies. One machine may be 10% better than another in a certain situation, but 20% worst in another. Most of finding is 90% luck. If your coil doesn't go over it, you are not finding it. I watch videos about a guy with a $6,000 machine that says I found this gold nugget when I used other machines in this area, and they did not. Maybe the coil of the other machine did not go over it. Maybe he was daydreaming and missed the signal. Get the other machine and see if it does find the target before you dig it up. Maybe he would not sell as many $6,000 machines doing that. I think the test beds that use soil are fair enough, but they only reflect that particular soil. One would need several test tubs. A detector good in salt, may not be good in mineralized. Standardized tests have not been created for comparing detectors. How does it do on soil with 5% iron? Nobody knows. We are at the mercy of happenstance and marketing.
