What a wonderful Vlog! I deliver to Chesterfield quite regularly and always take the A623 over the High Peak. Stunning views! I would get glimpses of the canal around Furness Vale where there is a beautiful marina and it was just the most beautiful drive out lol (sounds like it wasn't even work!) Driving through beautiful places while the sun shines does make for an easy day! A brief view of the Chapel Milton Viaduct before heading towards Peak Forest, Eyam (mentioned in the Doomsday book), beautiful Baslow which has the quirkiest little shop that I've still to pop in! I can recommend the Tollbar Fish & Chip ship to Rich in Stoney Middleton if ever you're driving through! Its tiny! Well done on rescuing the chick, you just have to help mother nature sometimes 👌 and I have to say what a great choice in music to accompany the visuals! I love the fact that you journal Fran, I'm a bit of a stationery fan myself. I use a Midori travelers notebook with fountain pens 🖊. Never leave it to the memory because we simply can't remember everything and it's good to document things and it's also good to read back in years to come.

Excellent again, Where I worked we used to service vacuum pumps for Swizzles, I also order love hearts from them as they are supposed to help with gout (no I don't drink!), I though it was the cause but it isn't ( I have pitty for anyone who suffers with it, the most painful disorder), the boat is looking good, My two brothers and I went to the national boat museum at ellesmere port today, we met a couple who also have a boat (but don't live aboard at the moment) I was telling them of your vlog and a few others, well done on another good video.

Hello Albert. Thank you so much for spreading the word about our videos. That sounds like a good excuse to eat lovehearts, not that we need an excuse! my wife was a senior book designer/art director and loves books, the printed page and illustrations, our house has substantial book ballast. these days, for ease of shopping or going back and forth to a library, I see her reading more books on line. just need a tablet thingy and download another book. don't know about books on line in the UK, it sure is space saving, if you can miss the tactileness of a real book. have fun. be safe.

@@FloatingOurBoat I was in a different situation where carrying around & storing books just wasn't viable for me either. I read a fair bit, but once I've read a book, I usually don't read it again. So they just clutter up the place. I'm no fan of the Amazon juggernaut, and the Kindle took a short while to get used to reading from. But now I couldn't live without it. Get books instantly over the net; cheaper than physical copies; get introductory samples for free; charge it's battery once a month. They've really nailed it. No good for reference books that you always turn to, or anything with illustrations. But novels and the like, perfect. Much easier than throwing up bookshelves everywhere or - if you really do read a lot - acquiring a butty boat as a tow-along library.

Also thank you for showing the chick reunited with its parents and all going well with them..good to see....and a huge thank you for taking the time to rescue the little chick. No thanks to CRT for leaving that grate like it is, surely they could do something to prevent the chicks getting caught in it, or at least make it easier for people to rescue them when they find them...though that isn't the best solution.

The scenery is really amazing on that canal and you captured it beautifully. When you carried your dogs over the style it reminded me of a walking holiday we had with friends in the Lake District about 30 years ago. We had to lift their elderly St Bernard over a style and was hilarious! If only we’d had access to videos like we do now. Thanks as always for sharing your adventure. The music you use to accompany your filming brought a tear to my eye now you’ve booked your wedding, I felt very emotional. It somehow seems so much more appropriate now.

The wievs from the Pennienes are fantastic. I think those canals up north seems to be the nicest (more atractive than the llanglothland (the spelling is free of charge)), but I kind of like open wievs and harch landscapes. If you can muster a liter or more of blackberrys then make gelly (as first and then a second boil for lemonade). There are feve things that beats any of them. You could try a wet touvel to cool the wine. Nice work.

That was nice! Thanks for bringing us along. Since you recognize the blackberry bushes, do you think you will recognize them in the fall when the leaves are falling off? If not, you can tie an off color band or ribbon and know it when you reach it. In the fall when plants decide to retreat for the winter, the sap falls back to the roots (and the leaves fall off). Dig up a couple of younger roots near the surface. About 6-8mm across. Get a couple of these, about a hand spread long. Take them back to the boat and clean them but don’t soak.....no, wait. You cannot freeze them. Erase erase! The roots will stop diarrhea

Floating Our Boat - my husband used to be the same. I was in medicine for 35 years and returned to school to earn a Master Herbalist as I had moved into the Appalachia’s and needed a strong understanding of what my patients were taking. I learned, the first year of study, that the UK & Germany among other countries required physicians and pharmacists to study this alongside their other studies. Herbal medicine was still a part of their practice. I worked as an Herbalist alongside a physician (who did not know much about herbs but was confident in their usefulness) with some fantastic discoveries. Most of my referrals were from physicians who ran out of things to try. I was able to successfully treat a 5 year old with fairly severe plaque psoriasis. After a month of treatment, it was gone. Not cured because I wanted him off of wheat and all he would eat was pasta. But the bathes and capsules kept it at bay. His treatment was expensive as I made my own remedies so I spent a session with his grandmother teaching her how to make the stuff and urging her to use rice noodles and such as well as where to buy ingredients. I retired about 12 years ago and hopefully they are okay. I have handfuls of stories and self treat (with my docs permission though he rolls his eyes, but allows me several months to try my ‘voodoo ‘ as he calls it to see if the herbs correct the lab values) and I have friends and family who use what I recommend but otherwise I stay home and care for husband. He is very very ill. ANYWAY, given the choice, I will always use herbs first because the side effects are minimal using the whole herb (symbiosis) rather than extracting only the property that causes the results hoped for and discarding everything else, which is what the pharmaceutical companies do. And herbs have gentler yet more effective and longer lasting benefits. And I just stepped up on my soapbox. I am sorry! I thought that I had put that away! 🤐
@FloatingOurBoat
@FloatingOurBoat 5 жыл бұрын
@@maobfh Hi Rebecca, don' put your soapbox away, it is great to have passion. I am a great believer in the healing power of plants which started when I was giving Medieval and Tudor garden tours and talking about the apothecary gardens. I bought Potters herbal which gives the biochemical constituents of plants and explained how they really can work. I don't know enough to use many remedies, but I am always reading up on the wild plants around us and their uses. My favourite has to be purple sage for sore throats and I will be making elderberry rob again this year to ward off the winter coughs and colds. Thanks for your comments. Fran x

Lovely to see there are others who love books, I suffer from abstinens if I'm without a book. They do take up a lot of room, though. Handy with the wildlife, and flora reference books, but have you tried the various 'on line' possibilities? I use something called 'Gutenberg', all the classics are there, but nothing of newer date; it's free so that's a plus. Wild camping sounds good, hope it doesn't rain on you. Enjoy and take care.

Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe the scenery in that part of the world does it - you just have to be there, I was born and raised in Derbyshire, try to get back every couple of years (see the old Mum etc.) Sorry I couldn't comment on the last vlog (big news and all) - but something along the lines of 'being institutionalised' might have been appropriate ;)

Hi guys,. Well fully understand the book thing ,if I was ever lucky enough to get a boat I would have to get one that has at least the extra bedroom just for the can't do without books. As I said totally understand, nice glass of slightly chilled wine and a good book as the sun goes down, with my dog's layed at my feet. You can't beet that . Nice one on the Moore hen. Question have you thought about putting in one of those under floor cellar , I'm sure that Rich and his brother could knock one up in a day then no more plastic bags and always on ice. Just a thought. Anyway thanks for the videos looking forward to your next. Be safe. P.s. how about a quick video on the making of the apple and blackberry cobbler.????

Beautiful as always, could smell the apple an blackberry crumble as well as the sweet factory, loved those sherbert dips. Didn't the love hearts have a tangy twist to them? We have a sister in Macclesfield - Alison she's been there now for 25yrs! We spent 3 days and 2 nights on the same canal, on the wandering Duck cruiser stern with people who had spent time in NZ running a hostel in Kaikoura, south island east coast. small world eh. happy travells x

The mass trespass of Kinder Scout, also called the Kinder mass trespass, was an act of wilful trespass by ramblers and members of the Young Communist League. It was undertaken at Kinder Scout , in the Peak District of Derbyshire , England, on 24 April 1932, to highlight the fact that walkers in England and Wales were denied access to areas of open country....THANKS TO THEM WE GOT OPEN ACCESS TO THE COUNTRYSIDE...Kinder Scout mass trespass walk | National Trust Mass trespass of Kinder Scout - Wikipedia....YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY BOOKS...LOVE THE RELIANT ROBIN BOAT...

We are so pleased for Robbie, he has worked so hard for this and deserves it. He is a great guy. We can go into any doctors surgery and get treated as a visitor if there is an emergency. As we let our cottage as a holiday home we are still registered there with a doctor. Otherwise I think some people use a friends or relatives address to be registered at a practice

we'll done what a rescue one little life saved, the authorities should come and net grids like that especially during the spring and summer, there is no reason why they cant net these grids especially if they are in sections as they can net in sections no excuse for not netting them, and they claim to care about wildlife along and in their canals it sure looks like it, Once again well done had you not been there then that door little duck would surely have died, did the little moorhen find its mum and family ?
