If you want to know what Google considers "Pro" just compare the regular Pixel 9 to the 9 Pro. Once you've done that you can determine that the Fold is not a Pro by Google's own standards.

One charge is enough for about 5:30 screen on time on the large display (5G, KZbin, Pokemon Go, Chrome, WhatsApp) Personally, I only use it open because when closed it feels like a brick compared to the V3... And this asymmetrical frame triggers me every time 😂

The cameras on the pixel pro fold is my most disappointing thing about the new fold I do think software does play a big part but so does the hardware. Another thing which I want to emphasise is that front display isn't the same as the pixel 9 pro as most KZbinrs Keep saying the only thing is the same is the screen size. The resolution isn't the same the refresh rate isn't the same and the peak brightness isn't the same. lol granted the new pixel pro fold does look better in terms of build quality and improved hinge

Yes to the name but no to the price. The Fold should start at $1,300 and max out at $1,500 at the most. It doesn't have better cameras than the base 9, just an extra telephoto lens. It doesn't have a SD processor to warrant flagship prices. Memory speed is slower than other foldables. If you don't care for the Google software features save yourself a lot of money and just go with the OP Open which could be had for $500+ cheaper.

If they wanted to include and promote it as part the 9 series, I think It should have been called 9 Fold. the cameras, charging speed, storage speed... Everything you mentioned, doesn't add up. Honestly though, none of this matters. It is what it is. I'm sure its going to be extremely solid in almost every way, outside of the charging speeds. I think that's going to be the only thing that actually effects users on a day to day basis.

Like another commenter said, it's marketing. I think changing the body with incremental internal changes was intentional because the 10 is what their resources will be focused on. They changed just enough externally to still have the 'common' customer be like "oh this Google phone looks amazing". For the nerds and enthusiasts our year will be next year. "10th iteration" in general is a big number for tech companies which generally implies significant changes and a new beginning in a sense.

I disagree. I believe what you stated makes the phone "Ultra" A super specd up version of the same offering from lower variants. Pro (Professional) is more to do with how it can be deployed in additional use case scenarios. There is a good argument to suggest any Folding phone is essentially a "pro" phone due to the additional usage afforded to the user by way of extensive features (not just upgraded features). That's my opinion. Feel free to disagree or agree.

I recently switched from original Pixel to the OnePlus Open. Never heard of experienced any wifi issue or signal issue. Yes Google now has as good a UI as Samsung, but Samsung has better marketing hype for greater customization, while Google UI is more focused on usefulness. Regardless, when it comes to multitasking, OnePlus Open is king (in usefulness), with Samsung in second place (for effort), and remains unknown if Google will ever implement more multitasking options, because it hasn't been implemented in the Android 15 beta on original Pixel Fold.

I used to think same way, but (for me) the constant warm phone bordering hot on KZbin, and battery not lasting long enough (for me), plus the weight was the final straw. So I did the unthinkable and jumped ship to the OnePlus Open which I was surprised how much more useful it is. Better cameras, multitasking, battery, and when rotated 90°, similar to Pixel Fold. Closed it's just as useful but brighter and way, way lighter in weight. I even transferred all my Google apps into the OnePlus....Phone, messages, Gboard, digital assistant.. They are all nice preferred apps. I even have the voice transcriptions in my messages still. So transitioning was painless. I was not a believer in OnePlus Open until now.

Name is used everywhere now but the definition of a professional device is you can use it to make money. You can and people do use iPhone Pro cameras to do that and also some top Android devices. Or you can use DEX and the s pen on Fold to do work so that’s pro. I love my pixel Fold but I wouldn’t say the new one is pro. Of course technically any device you use to make money or do work can be pro.

I feel like Google calling their devices Pro at all is not fair, but calling their Fold a Pro device is a stretch. Even in comparison to their other 'Pro' devices, it is lacking. You can't just add this device into the rest of your 'Pro' lineup and have it missing features that come with the rest of the lineup. I'll end this by saying that i enjoy google phones. I've owned numerous google devices and ive ordered the new Fold. I'm simply saying that it doesnt warrant the 'Pro' title.

As long as we get the same level of feature support as other pro devices in the Pixel 9 lineup, I will be happy, but we won't know until months into this device's lifetime. I also hope this creates room in the lineup for a cheaper and smaller (PF1 size) foldable from Google in the future. The base/a models in the last few years have been some of the best value-for-money phones, after all.

I dont think they technically made it pro. They just named it as such for no good reason. Same cameras is such a bad thing. For $1800 i wanted a dual screen essentially Pixel 9 Pro. Camera included. Theres enough room for this. No reason not to use the same sensors etc. Space requirements are negated by the camera bar/block etc. I just want a fold that can take photos as good as and better than my old p6P. My fold currently is so poor in the astrophotography mode. I cant do anything my p6P used to do. Yes it can fold. Yes its nice with the extra screen etc. its a nice device. I just think the camera issue is the biggest downside.

I think you're missing the point. The question isn't whether this specific Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a "pro" device generally speaking. The the question is whether it has the extra features that the other 9 Pro phone do. This is obviously where Google is going with the non-Pro 9 and the other three that have "Pro" in the name. It sounds like some are there and some aren't. You could also argue that pretty much ALL foldable phones are more pro than the ones that don't fold.

Personal opinion..I feel your stretching on this one. First, they can call it what they want. The g4 chip does what they want it to do. It's configured to act the way they want it to act. That may or may not align with another chip set. If you want the other chips performance, but the other chip.The importance of the pixel 9 pro fold is, it has what it's fellow pixel 9 pro's hve. It can update just like the others. It's lacking no features. If we're arguing it's a stupid name, then ok. Right now it's a lot to do about nothing. I think it all depends on how you define things. What I'm doing is taking the chin definitions and giving my thoughts. Of course, everyone is free to have their own opinions on it. Personally, I don't think it'll matter much, but I can see why some people are frustrated. The consensus seems to be that there's very little about the Fold that would be considered "Pro."

IMO, All these phones are doing the same dam thing. It is marketing hype to say the G4 chip is focused on special AI features. Like Samsung hype about any extra software UI customization advantages. Both are marketing hype. Bottom line All these phones are meant to do the same thing, and the G4 is probably at 9gen2 level performance. All this is distraction from the real world scenarios, that the G2 ran warm to hot, and the 8gen2 runs cool, and the 8gen3 higher clock speed runs hotter so reportedly needs to be throttled down to 8gen2 speeds. The point is that yes those tests are useless, yet the real issue has been overlooked, which is heat & battery. How warm/hot does it run and get before phone thermal shutdown?. How much battery does it pull? The 9Pro Fold will struggle at charging. Why? Because I saw two display units in chargers struggling all day at 30+% battery with those bigger brighter screens.

If the software used the hardware to deliver results equal to or better than competition that achieved premium level results based mostly on advancement of hardware, I would call it pro. While the pixel tends to perform well based on hardware, there’s lots of reviewers showing artifacts on the camera results like blur, and inconsistencies. Until it’s fixed , which it usually is eventually, it can’t be pro. But you also can’t buy a device on hoping they’ll fix the issues.

Definitely the Honor. I use both devices (V3 China Rom) and instinctively always reach for the Honor first. The 9 Pro Fold simply feels at least a generation behind in comparison.

To me it's the photos it's produces. I went through two S24 Ultras and I couldn't produce photos that were near as good as the ones as I get with my ZFold6. I get the fact that the S24 Ultra specs are way above that of the fold but they're meaningless if you can't take advantage of them without knowing how to manipulate all the configuration settings. Pro to me is the most overused term in the industry. When I see it I only consider it as applied to the same companies other devices.

Pro is the size of the screens and the RAM. The Tensor G4 will barely be able to keep up with advancements in AI which is scary for a new phone. It will have to be online and use servers that can process this data and return it back. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize this has by far the weakest chip out of all the foldables.

I love my Fold, but after over a year I would give the camera a 6/10, and that score is generous. I may be harsh, but it's just not good IMO which is frustrating! I opted for the Samsun s24 plus ➕️ 512 gigs as of now, although I considered the Samsung Ultra I think I made the best decision as on now! I've been a Motorola veteran for 12 years and last 2 Motorola device's I utilized were the Motorola Ace and Motorola edge plus original version and they were both decent midrange phone's in my opinion and their very similar too the Google Pixel linup's as far as basic layout, format, and overall performance! With that being said Google is on steroid's as the AI abilities of the Google Pixel 9 are complex and superior in comparison too the Motorola phone's but they both have quirky cool abilities that I actually really miss that the Samsung doesn't have! I'm going to wait until the PIXEL 14 PRO is released, and by then, all need a need a new primary phone as of now, all have be getting used too Samsung s24 plus ➕️...

Features defines what makes the phone a Pro different from a standard or base model and I think the blur between what makes a phone a "Flagship" vs "Pro". In this case, Pixel, I think is saying the Pixel 9 Pro/XL is their Flagship and Pixel 9 Pro Fold has Pro features like advance camera menus while the Pixel 9 does not, distinguishing it from the base. The 9 Pro Fold is not their Flagship but rather a unique model in their lineup because it's a foldable and has an 8" screen for 2x the price. But when you take the Fold and compare it with all the other folds around the world and not just the US market, then you would start to question, is it a Pro and it brings this back to your previous video Shane, about Samsung and it losing market share. Play a what if question here. If all Folds were made easy for the US market to purchase, all Folds are the same price, let's say 2k US and you have to money to purchase for example a list of foldables: Honor Magic V3, Vivo X Fold3 Pro, OnePlus Open, Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, Samsung Z fold 6, special edition, and regular edition, etc. Let's say you've built the ultimate shopping comparison matrix stacked up against software and hardware (display, usability, features, repairability, warranty, consumer support friendliness, quality, charging, what's included in the box, % of issues per X sold, let's pretend that all phones has the same parity on software security patches and OS upgrades, don't include any trade ins, etc.), out of this matrix, what feature would you indicate as Flagship, and Features on Hardware and Software would you tag as "Professional/Performance = Pro", what defines base vs not, and where would you (and all readers) put your 2k dollars assuming a 4 year refresh (would be like buying an OS upgrade for 500 dollars a year). And what is or your thought on the thing that stood out the most that made your decision to purchase that device base on this what if? I pre-ordered the P9PF and ended cancelling it and went with the Vivo X Fold3 Pro mainly because I take a lot of zoom photos and like that it doesn't over process images, the sensor is big enough and optical lenses to capture the details in my shots and pictures; to me are more natural. The 16GB memory + 16GB virtual memory, vs P9PF, is 12GB and 4 reserved for AI,. Charging is fast both wired and wireless, and ability to enable PWM to be higher. The extra .03 inches on the inner display for that little extra screen real-estate for remote work, take what I can. I don't use a stylus (nice to have but I don't find myself using it very much). I like the bigger battery. The AI stuff, more than likely won't use it often to justify the cost and if it comes to the phone later great, if it doesn't it's not a loss, plus if I'm paying for Pro features "performance", I'd stick with the snapdragon gen 3.

The way I see it is this. If you want wireless charging, are ok with lower resolution cameras and price isn’t an issue - buy the P9P Fold. If camera resolution, storage space and price matter more than lack of wireless charging - but the OnePlus Open.
