The PlayStation Vita originally released in 2011 and later this year it will officially turn 10 years old. Today I wanted to take a look at a Vita I imported that just came in and talk a bit about where the Vita is today in the collecting space and buying one in 2021.

Vita means life! (I own 2 OLED models and a Slim version). Pro tip: If you enable homebrew on your Vita Slim, get a program called "LCD Color Saturation", it will give the screen more vibrant colors closer to that of the OLED Vita.

@Alexis Drohin Not exactly true, the PSVita actually contains the orignal PSP Hardware and parts of the orignal PSP OS for Backwards Compatibility. The original PS1 games run on a the same emulator Sony used on the PSP.

@DogMan420 the main issue is the (proprietary) memory card, so if you can get one with something like 32gb with it, you will be good to go (sounds dumb but actually they're quite pricey separatly). The Oled screen model must be great but the slim one, above its ergonomy, has a basic miniusb port + 1Gb internal memory and more battery life. Then I bought a screen protector and a box for the console + cartridges. Hope it helps, cheers!

Literally one of the best games on Vita. I put over 200 hours in it. And married Chie every single time. Other games I loved was Sly Cooper collection, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, The Metal Gear Collection, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. I still can't believe they got Borderlands 2 to run on the Vita.

I really liked my vita but I liked it even more when I hacked it. I did it for two reasons. Portable Psone games and expanded memory. After I hacked it, I've been using it more and more. Proprietary memory really helped kill off the Vita.

@Alexis Drohin man, ps vita 1000 often has problem with the motherboard like artifacting graphics. I had several 1000 that behaved like that and had to change the motherboard. The 2000 series is more durable.

@@aristochofo6984 There are some good Persona games on it from ATLUS' excellent MegaTen franchise. Particularly Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden. If you like playstation 1 games Persona 2 IS and EP are great too and have a darker feel akin to Parasite Eve.

Honestly, you may not appreciate it yet but the OLED models are dying internally at the moment. GPU crashes are becoming very common and there is no fix; they will potentially all die someday whereas so far the LCD internals have proved very robust.

There are more than enough reasons to prefer the second model over the first. Either way they both had low response times and therefore have ghosting, so the original model sure as HELL wasn't worth what it originally cost that's for damn sure.

@@CustomSC No source. It's still too early to tell what is happening I just see GPU crashes plaguing the Fats in the Vita groups every day and it seems to be a thing. GPU Crashes can be caused by a number of things and aren't particularly bad in and of themselves. The issue right now is fat Vitas experience something akin to a red ring of death where the GPU crashes become chronic and unrecoverable probably because something on the board is taking a dump a decade later. Fat vitas were first gen tech so it doesn't surprise me if that's just the case.

One unique functionality of the Vita regarding remote play is that it can have a direct Wi-fi connection with your PS4 and play that way meaning no internet connection needed. It works while the PS4 is completely offline.

And I was so sad to find out that they went out of their way to remove it for the PS5 ... :( I traded my PS4 in to get a PS5, and they have vastly expanded the use and scenarios for Remote Play, but went to the trouble of *removing* any Vita connect. Really sad.

My girlfriend bought me a Vita with a broken sticks on ebay, replacement sticks, and Persona 4 Golden for our anniversary. I was talking about how I wanted to buy a used console and fix it myself, and how much I wanted to play Persona 4 Golden(pre steam port). I put 150 hours into P4G and have yet to homebrew it. I love this thing and have so many plans with it.

I remember owning a white Vita very briefly back in late 2012. I ended up having to sell it to help pay some bills, so I didn't get much of a chance to use it. This past September, I finally decided to get another Vita, an original Wifi/3G model. It wasn't what I would call cheap (slightly less than $200), but considering that the system looks practically brand new and came with a 32GB card, I think it was worth it.

So worth it, picked up a blue slim one four years ago and just recently put homebrew on it, you can enable the full range of RGB for the LCD screen to make it look a lot better as well. Not as good as the OLED but certainly a lot closer.

I have the PCH-1004 model and it's great. I'm still buying Vita Games and enjoy playing on it. I think I will buy the Aqua Blue Model as well because it looks great :) . There is also an accessory with which you can get real L2 and R2 buttons. I haven't bought them myself yet, but for some PS1 games or remote play that's certainly not bad if they really work. I really like your videos. Keep it on!

I just bought one along with the PS TV and an 8gb memory card back in november and I love it. I play a lot of PSP games and Vita games on the TV with the MClassic. I buy exclusives for the most part. I’m buying a second vita in a couple months

I have three of the original models, two black and one white. This is truly a great handheld gaming system. Sony never should have abandoned it like they did. It just boggles my mind how the original PSP took off in sales at 86 million and the Vita couldn't get anywhere near that. Those original PSP owners sure missed a great handheld system. I have the original PSP I just have to get the thumb stick repaired, if I'm able to.

Honestly i have the oled and the lcd model id recommend the lcd though cause my screen has black spots already granted i used the shit out of it and you can only tell when the screens all black but during games never shows. My lcd one is still perfect though

That is actually normal. Both my original and replacement oled screen have black spots. More OLEDs at the time had that "issue" As an example I had a galaxy note 2 that exhibited the same problem. it seems like it was like that from the factory. Interestingly, it seems to not affect OLEDs with a pen-tile matrix pixel arrangement, which the two examples here are not.

From my understanding the black spots are largely due to screen burn? It was just crucial to make sure if a game was paused or minimized to the home screen you always need to turn off the screen even if it's only going to be a few minutes. It will reduce it dramatically. If buying the OLED from a store in person, always check carefully, and perhaps make sure you can return or exchange if bought online.

@@zenunderground9893 There were (are) two main issues with the type of OLED used for the OG Vita. Burn in definitely was a thing (real burn in, not the slightest image retention we see now with some Plasma / OLED TVs) aswell as "Mura effect" that would smear colours over other colours (mainly over black screens). Both were bad and common. One of the reasons (as well as money), why I traded my OG for the 2000 model. I didn't see any point in having more vivid colours and "inky blacks" of a OLED, if I couldn't enjoy them because of those issues.

The first gen OLED screen unfortunately had that problem. The newer OLED screen seem to have mostly fixed the burn-in issue, but a decade ago it was all still new tech and the kinks hadn't been worked out yet.

I literally only have rhythm games on my Vita (Project Diva, Taiko, IA/VT, Pop'n Music...), that was the sole reason why I bought it back in 2016. If you told me when it came out that I would actually buy one, I would've raised my eyebrows, and yet here I am. I'm pretty happy with it honestly, though I haven't bought any new games other than the few rhythm games I was interested in, but it's a solid system (changing accounts is a pain in the ass though).
