With prayer and obedience this punishment can be avoided This is not telling about what actually happened, but prophecy that may happen, if the jews at that time do not change their lifestyle. The issues addressed by the Quran are timeless. Until we as a civilization achieve these ideals, the Quran will not be obsolete or outdated. The Quran is not a difficult read and its message as our society seemingly devolves, its message is more meaningful and centering in our modern times.

Adam The word Sunna is just an an Arabic word meaning "tradition" or "way." Its mentioned many times in the Quran referring to the “way” of various entities (not just a single reference). The questioner has such a lack of understanding and knowledge when it comes to the Quran and the Sunna of the Prophet(SAW). The Quran set forth what is correct and the proper mode of living for humanity; if humanity deviates from that and tries to evolve in its own way and fashion, that is the fault of man’s own hands and will certainly bear the consequence of what they put forth. Many examples can be used to illustrate this point, liberals illustrate the most. The idea of homosexuality being normal or women deciding to become bodybuilders interrupts the normal flow of society. Think about what happens to the hormones and chemicals in ones body, you are altering your own creation and normal state. May Allah guide us to his straight path.

This is why I tell people that 5he Bible and Quran was given to a time where things were very different. To try to apply certain rules in this time is much different. God can speak to you today? God doesn’t speak directly to all people. He sends messengers with a message that in the case of the Quran can be seen in a broad way, a bigger picture. We, people of our time think that things as we know them and do them today, is the only right way that will remain till the last day. This way of thinking is incorrect. What the norm was in the present is maybe not the norm of today, but possibly can come back in the future. God knows all of this.

This is white when the books were written they were in or calling to what existed in their time they will use the word sword instead of military tanks if there was to be written a book today I'm sure they will use this kind of words of modern day today that's what I'm trying to say

Exactly what I've been saying, especially when I hear some Muslim commentators say Muslims "...can go to the hellfire if they don't accept Jesus Christ" [?!] even when most evidence points to Christ being a mythological figure while Jesus (Ben Ananias) was actually a real human being? Shk our religion Islam is total submission to the will of Allah and total way of life and was completed as the Quran says, “This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” (5:3) Also, our Holy Quran says that it’s “a guidance for mankind and clear evidence of guidance and discrimination (between wrong)”. (2:185). Allah’s law and Holy Quran are very relevant in our present time. One of the evidences given is the examples of mathematics and modern sciences among others.

Did he really say that? 😑 on what basis? Hadith unfortunately is still an evolving science and does not have the same status of the Quran. Reading alot about the hadith science and some so called sahih hadiths may not be legitimate. It makes sense because how can the hadiths sometimes contradict the Quran and sometimes other hadith?

In some countries in Asia where I live in, not all Muslims say those either, especially in casual situation, this does not make their respect less to our beloved prophet. But at least we say “prophet Muhammad” not just the name Muhammad.

I have a great respect for Dr Shabir but I find this explanation troubling. Paraphrasing Dr Shabir “we can’t know the reason god ordained certain problematic text as we are merely human and societal norms may change in the future” Extrapolating from this does Dr Shabir think we may in the future, once again, have a society in which slavery, including sexual slavery, is acceptable? That stoning is acceptable? That apostates should be killed? That women are thought to be not as intelligent as a man? None of this is acceptable in ANY time and place. Hmmm...we pathetic humans have enough wisdom and morality to reject inequitable and horrific texts from many religions past and present. I for one am extremely thankful that most humans do not continue to follow blindly the teachings of the Quran, bible or indeed any other religion.

I was disappointed only when he neglected to give an example of what he meant. The idea provoking the eyebrow to rise is one thing but when he said it I thought "O.K. that's interesting now he will give you an example." Ummm he didn't. Could he? Probably.
