Hows it going folks. Just want to put a little disclaimer. All my thoughts on what other big breeders are doing is only speculation and theory. I dont want to claim to know how everyone else runs their place and should have added that in some spots.

The last reptile show I went to in Arlington Texas was so packed I had to leave. I couldn't move through the crowd and it was so hot in that room. The first NARBC Dallas was 40% bigger than it was in Arlington and is projected to be even bigger in September, Due to popular demand. I think the market is on the uptake.

It's not that the reptile Market is dead, our economy is shot tho. And it looks like it's about get worse over the next few years. Buying your fancy crested geckos or my pretty ball pythons are luxuries a lot of people just can't afford right now

Its definitely a buyers market. It's happened in many exotics over the decades and in other animals. horses have taken 20 years for the horse market to improve from the crash in 2004ish. Small breeders stopped breeding, and we have less horses now.Unfortunately, most people can't afford them. It never affected the big breeders with high end stock. I am buying in and building my reptiles which will be ready to breed by the time the market goes back up, hopefully. I'd rather gamble on this than go to the casino 😉 Most horses live 20 or so years.

Ive been going to shows for only 8 months and in that time it seems that even casual buyers seem to want to buy animals in order to breed them. Theres just way too much stock out there. Its not like these animals die after a couple of years, they can last 20 30 years. How many animals can a person really have, take care of and enjoy? Im planning on getting a leopard gecko, chahoua, gargoyle, leachie, ball python, bearded dragon, and i already have a Crested. Im buying them to keep as pets and not breed, personally for me thats the limit of what i feel i can care properly for. Im just curious as to where the ceiling is, when will every house have a few reptiles to the point where it wont be viable to have anymore? Then what happens to the market?

Back in 2004-2008 I was teen selling crested, they were all same price ... Antoni Caponeto was mostly just on internet lol I was selling crested for 75$ every baby to petshop. (About 2004) was enough for me. Then big breeder start and price drop to 25$ each. And I stopped... breeding crested

You can sell your geckos for full price, if they are silly gecko. If it’s not silly then you have to lower the price to near free

I'm a hobbyist and I just picked up a cappuccino for 80 and a red phantom lily for 55 they are hatchlingsbut I'm in it for the long haul I'm hopefully gonna get some het axanthic

Look into effects of private equity and corporate profits, it wasn't really COVID causing inflation, it was corporations realizing they could collectively raise prices and reap in the profits while private equity buys up and destroys competition As a COVID keeper, I stopped watching a lot of content 1) to rain in my impulse control to not end up getting too many animals as so much content sorta encourages that (in me) 2) the toxicity and yelling at each other -- hobbies are supposed to be good for mental health, but social media kept pushing aggressive content into my feeds that while in general agree with majority of their views, the presentation is off-putting/unpleasant. There's lots of nuances in animal keeping and that content obscures those nuances in favor of being angry online. Also, people that got animals during COVID may have gotten animals later on sans covid, so there's also likely a deep from just that.

Where do you buy your animals? I’m sure they have much smaller enclosures. He has great setups that are fully capable of housing the animals that are in them. Not to mention, when breeding, people use smaller enclosures to ensure everything goes well. You clearly don’t know much. Point is, shut up

Those smaller enclosures are the regular size for baby geckos. Go and look up what happens when baby Leachie in a large enclosure. I made that mistake for a short period of time; and then put mine in the proper small enclosure.

@@spicypizza6116that’s complete rubbish. Monitor they are actually eating and gaining weight and they are fine. Very easy to do with when using preprepared diets in a dish. The majority of enclosures I see are absolutely shocking whether it be undersized or have sod all usable climbing space and enrichment. Sadly most ‘breeders’ keep them in the most simplistic ways to make more profit.
