Looking for accuracy results on the SFAR and of course everyone in the comments shoots sub moa groups with bulk ammo…

I find it funny that this is a proven MOA rifle with professional shooters, yet almost every tuber goes out and shoots over 2 MOA with it then blame the gun.... Just saying there is a big difference between having a MOA rifle and Shooting an MOA with that rifle. Most of these tubers need to accept they are likely the cause of bad MOA from most rifles not the rifle or even the ammo. Just watched a tuber shoot a 6.5x300 Weatherby a proven .5 MOA rifle and he shot 1.5 MOA and blamed first the rifle then the ammo but never shot a single group sub MOA even when he swapped ammo multiple times...

Appreciate the coverage of this rifle. I look forward to future review of it. I have the 16" and my young son is using it for deer season this year. So far it is doing well on accuracy and reliability on #3 setting. Thank you.

After grinding more clearance in the handgaurd for the gas block and lapping the barrel mines getting under moa (closer to 3/4 with 1/2 moa groups randomly after bedding the barrel). Only shooting reloads. Chamber, throat, and bore had tons of issues that needed knocked down. Took a doe at 200 and a coyote at 300 with it this year. After trying a dozen different ar10 configurations hunting over the course of 15 years, this is hands down my favorite. After dropping a scope on it I weighed it next to my 16" hunting AR15 and the SFAR was a pound lighter.

My 20 " will put the bullet in the same hole at a hundred yards with 155 gr.bthp.... I don't like how much carbon builds up in the action... I put 40 rounds through it and had to clean it because the bolt was stuck in the chamber from all of the carbon...was this due to having it set on #3 gas port ?? It's the first time I shot it. I was using good ammo .
@HaightNetwork4 ай бұрын
I ran into the same issue with my recently purchased 20". Rugar recommends a 100rd break-in cycle with the gas setting on 3. I plan to run the remaining 50rds out of 100 this weekend and then will play with the gas setting. I was also shocked by the amount of carbon buildup that made the bolt difficult to cycle at 40rds.

I agree that the SFAR is not as accurate as a bolt action, but using a gun that belongs to someone else is not a fair way to conduct any type of tests with a weapon. I own a 16" and the groups are much more tighter. I have been able to get 1" groups at 100 yds with my handloads 168 grain Sierra hollow point boat tail.

Constructive criticism: dont ever accuracy test a rifle you didnt personally sight in, don't ever accuracy test a rifle on a silhouette target, don't ever accuracy test a rifle on a target that doesn't have all four corners secured. Ive got the 16 inch version in my gun room, yet to shoot it but I'm fairly confident I can get it to do better than that just following basic rules of accuracy testing and shooting mechanics. At least someone finally tested it with a higher power scope and not a red dot lol

I got the 20" and mine likes the federal fusion 308 150gr but i believe they made this gun around winchester ammo in mind. Could be wrong.....

I have the 20" SFAR and am getting 3/4" groups out of Federal Fusion 165 grain bullets. Got 1" group out of the Federal Nosler Partion in 150 grain. Going with the Fusions for deer season. I replaced the muzzle brake with an A2 style flash hider; won't use a muzzle brake on a hunting rifle ever again. lol. I put in an overssized ambi charging handle, PSA single stage trigger and topped it with a Leupold VX3HD scope with the custom dial system (CDS). Just got my free custom dial cut for my deer land in the mail yesterday. I have high hopes for this rifle and will be going deer hunting with it all next week.

lol btw I still have the muzzle brake installed on mine. As soon as I got in the stand yesterday I saw a doe peeking its head out the woods and had no time to install ear protection but me sticking my barrel out the window left me with no negative consequences from the concussion.

I have the 20” barrel version of the SFAR. I found 143 grain bullets from Malaysia. 762x51 on Midway they were pretty cheap. after the break in I was getting 3/4” groups at 100yds using a bipod. So it’ll do it’s job once you find out what bullets it likes and of course when do our part when pulling the trigger.
@FeatheredDino Жыл бұрын
3/4 inch groups from a semi automatic rifle is insane. There's a lot of bolt action rifles that don't group that tight, and the only moving part is the firing pin 😅

@@FeatheredDino I was surprised as well. The barrels that Ruger uses are very accurate. We were able to replicate the same from the 308 Ruger RPR.

@@TheSonsOfSimonyea i would say mines does. I used Hornady eldx 178 gr and it’ll do fines first couple shots then have a flyer that’ll open the group up to 2 moa at 100. Then I used 150gr federal non typical and got moa at 100 and 200, then used fedral 130 gr sp and got 1.25 at 100 and moa at 200yds. Dropped my first doe with it yesterday.

20” barrel, A2 flash hider, H2 buffer and shot setting 3 for about 15 rounds and switched to setting 2 and runs fine. It will do 1” with Hornady Black 168gr, Hornady Whitetail 150’s about 2”, Rifle Line 150’s 2.5 to 3”. I have more ammo coming to try but Hornady Black is looking good. These are all three shot groups because I bought it to hunt with and that’s all I need to see. Also why I put the A2 on right from the start. Dropped in a CMC today and will see what that does. Currently about 70 rounds through it with 10 round magpul mag. Does not feed well with ASC 5 round mag. Rifle came with the 20 round mag but not legal for hunting here so have not tried it.

On paper the SFAR has pretty good spec. Hammer forged barrel and titanium firing pin..but also just one set screw for the gas key, and special material for the bolt itself, to optimize length/weight. It would be interesting to see a high rould count test on the SFAR to see what can be expected.🤔

Sincerely mean no offense but you weren't testing the rifles accuracy, you were testing your shooting abilities. Testing for accuracy would mean vicing the rifle in something like a lea sled etc and checking and correcting the position as necessary with the same point of aim after each shot. I recently acquired the 20" variety and shooting cheap Wolf steel cased ammo out of a lead sled secured and the rifle well anchored, had 3 of 5 rounds fall into a .70 group. The overall group was 1.5 inches, as there were 2 flyers. considering the fact, it was cheap ammo I was pleased as I could be with its "accuracy". Now what matters to me is, will I shoot worth a damn with it if and when it counts and frankly even shooting 2" at 100 yards for a rifle designed primarily for 3oo yards and less is acceptable to me.
@mrgrump25349 ай бұрын
And what world do you think a 308 16 inch barrel can only go out to 300 yards effectively😂 This platform is easily a 500 yard gun. I’ve taken mine to 600 easily.

My thoughts... Accuracy at 100 yards leaves something to be desired. Using the exact ammo it was sighted in at is important. Good groups even if way off aimpoint should be seen even if using different ammo. A folding table and bipod should be exchanged for a cement platform and sandbags. Thanks for posting though. My 16" SFAR is waiting to be fired, but I'm one of those old farts still using my 1976 Weatherby bolt-action in .30-06 for deer hunting 🙂

I had bad accuracy also with my 16" SFAR, around 2-2.5 moa, until I slightly turned the gasblock so it doesn't interfere with handguard. Now it's around 1.3-1.5 moa with 5 round group with Sellier&Bellot 180gr FMJ, if I do my work. So this video is worthless for me. Bad ammo pick (one cheap, second for hunting), not best stable position etc.

Try federal ammo. Nearly everyone I seen get moa or less uses federal or nosler and it’s usually with 150 gr or less. I use federal non typical and 130 gr sp and get moa accuracy.

According to some other reviews the 16" is shooting 1 MOA at 100, which is perfectly fine for a MBR. I think this review suffered a bit from the folding table and bipod.
