I just took in an abandoned Russian Blue 6 weeks ago. He followed me into my house when I went to throw away the trash. He was in rough shape and after several visits to the vet he doesn't leave my sight. He's adjusted to my night shift work schedule and we sleep together, sometimes sharing the same pillow. I love him! His name is Fester.

I have a Russian Blue named Milo, I'm not sure if he is a pure breed because his hair is very long but he has the signature blueish gray coat and green eyes, I adopted him right before the pandemic and he was very shy at first but we connected in the shelter so I gave him some time. Sure enough he came around! He is very classy and smart, sometimes I feel like he is a Dumbledore reincarnate helping me through life. He always gives me a proud look (squinted eyes) when I'm working out or doing something healthy. He follows me all over the house and lets me pick him up and hold him like a baby as often as I want, though I try to be careful and notice when he's uncomfortable via his facial expression because he doesn't scratch or bite at all so I have to be mindful of his boundaries via body language. He is very greedy and bosses me around for food, but I'm a heavy sleeper so I just ignore him until it's his breakfast time. But he's a little rascal, he will cause all sorts of mayhem trying to wake me up. He's also very finicky about his litter and will give a loud disapproving meow if it's not clean enough. When I am on the phone he has his favorite people, one friend in particular he always meows and purrs when he hears her voice. He is an awesome cat, very funny and smart, I love my little boy!
@FactsaboutCatsVideos3 жыл бұрын
He sounds awesome! Long fur means he's not purebred, but you're lucky!
@harrypottermaniac083 жыл бұрын
Long fur likely means your cat Is a Nebelung which is the long breed variant of the Russian Blue (which is made by breeding a Russian Blue with a domestic long hair cat). While they both look similar in appearance and are related breeds they are still different enough since they are technically not the exact same breed. I have a Nebelung and have been doing more research on Russian Blues and have found some differences (such as Nebelungs being being prone to obesity and over eating, being suited for apartment living, etc.). I'd suggest reading up more on Nebelungs because it's really quite fascinating and will probably be more helpful since there are differences between the two breeds ^^
@tiffanys.42503 жыл бұрын
@@harrypottermaniac08 oh wow! Thank you, I will definitely do that. One thing I read about RBs is that they absolutely hate change. If I have company he immediately runs to his hiding spot 😔. I'm taking him on a plane with me for the first time and I hope it won't be too bad.
@harrypottermaniac083 жыл бұрын
@@tiffanys.4250 @Tiffany S. Yeah my Nebelung hates changes too and is very tied to routine so when it's disrupted she gets really annoyed. As for the running and hiding from strangers, it's definitely a breed-related thing but if the cat is well socialized from a young age this type of behaviour can be prevented. I adopted my Neb when she was 3-4 years old so I didn't raise her from a kitten but I'm pretty sure her first owner must have socialized her well because she's usually pretty good around strangers (she doesn't act as friendly with strangers as she does with me but she doesn't mind them petting her and sitting close to her). Idk about your speicifc cat but a lot of cats are very averse to travelling in planes due to the noise, difference in air pressure, and staying in the confined space of the pet carrier for a long time. Some cats can even get mini panic attacks and stuff if they aren't used to long travels. I'd suggest looking up videos on KZbin about helping to calm cats down and preparing them for air travel so you can be calmer on the day you're travelling which will help your cat stay calm too. I've never travelled by plane with any of my cats so I can't give you personal experience but I've looked at a few videos online about it in the past and there are a lot of helpful videos out there! Good luck with your travel and I hope you and your Neb canstay safe ^^
@tiffanys.42503 жыл бұрын
@@harrypottermaniac08 After reading this I called the vet and got something that will keep him sleepy and calm during the flight. And then when I get to the house I'm going to plug in feliway. Thank you! Milo is very finicky and moody lol. It took a long time for him to warm up to me and even now he can still be very skittish. He runs away from plastic bags.

About a half year ago I adopted two bonded brothers who carry all the physical traits of Russian Blues except they both have white bellies and one has a diamond white patch on the chest. So they aren't purebred. They were 8 months and I was told they would not do well with other cats. That same day I adopted another cat. I brought them all home to my little girl so she could have company. They are all one big happy family now. They play, eat, sleep, and groom together.

I adopted a grey and white abandoned kitten and that vat said she was half Russian blue, her hey color is typical such as the soft fur.. Apart from having short legs, and friendly with visitor (and obviously the white belly) she is so much as it is in the video. Very independent, on the other following me everywhere in the house and outside, sleeping with me, curing me when I am sick, consoling when I am sad.

When I was an 8 year old , my mother rescued a female Russian Blue that had lost her owners when they moved house. She became my best friend as we shared temperament being shy, loving, quiet and respectful to others' space. We had a male neutered cat and it was him who was inviting the (neutered) female to our ground floor flat so she could eat. until my mother found it out! Her name was Mounette. She would follow me a little while in the morning when I was walking to school despite the dangerous environment. One day, she went missing. I was sick with worries. A week passed, I had run everywhere in the neighbourhood calling her to no avail. Then one evening there was a knock on the door. A couple with a young boy of a similar age to mine were standing there with tears in their eyes and a cat basket with Mounette calling me. They opened the basket and she rushed in the flat. That's how I learned that she was a much lived Russian Blue, and how she had run away when they were ready to move to a better house, how they kept on looking for her all this time, how they recognised her when she was strolling in the neighbourhood, how they took her home with them. Despite all their efforts , patience and love, she refused food for a week so they had no choice but to bring her back. My cat and I were quite well known so people told them where to find me. So you see it is wrong to think all cats prefer food and comfort to their owners.

I adopted my Russian Blue, actually he showed up on my porch one day out of no where, I'm in Alaska and his chip was from Kansas (I'm not sure why or how he ended up on my porch but that's quite a journey for a cat!). He is literally the perfect cat, loves to be in my lap, loves his sister (we had 2 pit bulls and another cat when we adopted him unfortunately I lost my cat and recently lost one of my pitties) but when both of the girls were outside, he literally comes to me and lets me know when they wanted to come back inside, because of him I can understand why these cats are so expensive, he has such an amazing personality and he loves my other animals he gets along with everyone, human or animal. He's very social, always has something to say when I talk to him and hes so good with kids and hes just so stinking cute and funny.

She doesn’t tend to wake me up though, she leaves before I wake up to do her own thing. She’s also not active at all, she’s very stubborn which I love (she will literally grab my hand so I have to pet her), she never gets into trouble by opening drawers or doors, and as long as she isn’t overcrowded she’s fine around new people. Some people cover over so often she’ll sit on them. She’s shy and quiet, but i also rescued her from an abusive household when she was a kitten so I can’t tell how much is trauma and how much is just her personality

My Russian Blue Sully (James P. Sullivan) is such a lovely cat. He was very scared when we got him and he always wanted to hide for days. He now curls up into my side while I'm lying in bed. He absolutely loves his chest being rubbed too. He's very communicative and loves his cuddles. You are 100% about them not liking change or visitors. Whenever someone comes over, which isn't very often, he'll hide and come out 3 hours after they have left. When I purchased my new king size bed, he wouldn't come into my room for 3 days. On the third day, he walked into the room, eyed up the bed and hissed at it and walked back out. 😂 Him and my Beadie Oscar also get along well. They both like to hang out with each other. I'll throw on an animated movie with animals they'll both watch it together.

Those 2 don't bother each other, but they don't want to be too close to each other and they don't get along with my other friendly cats like American short hair or Norwegian forest cats. But they are so curious and when I have human visitors or dog, they show affections to them and want to get to know them more. I think both of my Russian blue cats wish to be an only child for sure. i reccomend a russian blue, if you can't afford them, instead of ignoring them you have another option: don't get a pure bred, they're usually the same not pure bred and there's a ton because its how they survived during WW2, the mixed breeds usually have less health issues and aren't as active or need cat trees russian blues are definitely companions, they like to rub on legs and greet you when you come home, they're often very purry and mine sleeps on my lap rarely, but every night comes to me on my own to sleep on me even though we have at least 5 cat beds, a very loving breed! sometimes loving breeds can have issues alone or aren't independent, but russian blues are loving and independent! they dont require much attention but they're happy to get some this video says that they follow you around, but my russian blue is often in a part of the house alone so i guess that is something only some have she's pretty quiet, even when being hurt and never struggles with baths or nails doesn't really bother me in the morning she gets up at 5-6 and without bothering leaves the room to go play with the other cat until she gets fed also gets along perfectly with any personality as long as they grow up together, my siamese and russian blue love each other and once a day they sleep together and clean each other

We got a Russian blue as a rescue from our local shelter. He was malnourished and had a cyst above his eye. He is now a full-grown beautiful cat, And the sweetest cat I’ve ever owned… and that says a lot since I’ve been around close to 20 in my lifetime. He has all the characteristics of a purebred, except his eyes are more yellow. Is that a variation within the breed?
@FactsaboutCatsVideos3 жыл бұрын
You gave him a second chance at life! True Russian Blues must have green eyes, lighter or darker shades, but still green :). If yellow, then it means he is not purebred

I had 2 Russian blues in my childhood that we got together as kittens, my younger brother was just born , they were the most relaxed easy going cats I ever had in my life. A set of brothers with another set of brothers, one of them would sleep in my bed every night the other would sleep in my brothers bed.... you could pick these cats up and put em on the back of a 4 wheeler and take them for a ride. Also I noticed compared to other cats they don't seem to mind water, they would hand on the edge of the bath tub and soak their arms in it and occasionally jump in. Downside is they didn't live very long both under 10 years, i have them cremated and ashes mixed together . r.i.p. twitcher and twoozer

I have a Russian Blue named Pipic (belly button in Yiddish) and she is the sweetest girl. You can lightly tap her on the nose and she will keep purring for about 30 minutes to an hour. If you are in the house, she will always run up to you and snuggle against your hand. if she cant find you, she will keep meowing over and over for like 20 minutes straight. Pipic loves humans.

@Sci-Fi Admirer I keep mine indoors and rarely put him on a leash to go outside. I have also moved quite a bit so I feel like he might get lost or spooked if I let him out now. I used to let him out in this little backyard I used to have but he ended up catching fleas out there. However it’s up to you and what you feel comfortable with. I was also worried someone might try to steal him lol.

OMG (gosh), We had a cat that was dumped off at our house last April, she was pregnant so we assume that is why the original owner abandoned her, poor thing. I just found out that she is a Russian Blue, and she is one through and through, personality and all. My wife is usually the cat person, not that I don't like cats, they just usually attach to her. My little Smokie, that is what I named her, took to me right off and has been mine ever since. She had 5 healthy kittens of which we found furever homes for all of them and they are loved and well taken care of. As for Smokie, she is still here and is a lovely addition to our home. She has finally gotten used to our other two cats and plays with them just fine... unless she is in one of her leave me alone moods and isolates to herself. Her distinctive coat is absolutely striking, and yes her fur is just like you described in the video. However, what captures you are her beautiful eyes, they just suck you in, they are gorgeous. And yes, they love their routine, she gets up right before I do now to where I don't really have to set my alarm, and she always lets me know it is time for bed, which creates a problem on the weekends, she is not a sleep in kind of cat, she's ready to get up for the day, get fed, and play. Thanks so much for posting this video, your description is spot on.

My boy is almost the same as the description in the video, shy,sensitive, very friendly and obsessed with food. He likes to shut the doors, sometimes he's stuck in a room but he waits in silence until someone comes to open the door,maybe he tooks a nap. Silly boy :) He's not a morning person, so I have to shake his bowl to wake up to have a breakfast.

We have a few and I highly recommend. I somehow question the "they actually prefer to be the only pet" opinion on this video. I've been around roughly ~30 Russian blues and as far I've seen, they love it if they have another Russian blue around them (one of my friends said it best: Russian blues are "racists" - getting another breed with Russian blue is a bit no no, they will hiss and honestly be assholes). Russian blues love to play, but they still need their space. Just to say, most of these videos say that Russian blues are somewhat quiet - it highly depends. Some of them are almost "mute" and meow with the lightest voice ever - sometimes they sound like something straight from the 7th level of Hell. And still they're easily the greatest cat breed ever.

My family got a kitten that we had no idea what breed it was, turns out- it was a Russian Blue. We thought he was a Nebelung for a while until he got older. This video answers everything about my crazy Russian Blue. He gets into 'crazy moods' where all he does is act like a fool, jumping up randomly, getting scared of every little thing, sinking his claws into our couch, running around like he's insane. Since we didn't know what breed he was when we got him, I'm glad he suited us well

My Russian Blue is really good with my other cats, however, they were already here when I got my Russian Blue came in, and the Russian Blue was a kitten then. I can almost set my clock by my Russian Blue by her actions. She is active, and the space is kind of smaller, but not really that small. We have five cat trees, and she loves them. She is a lap cat as well. She is very intelligent. My Russian Blue also likes people, however, we seldom have people over.

oh man! this video is super nice! I OWN A RUSSIAN GREEN, her name is AISHA and her nick name is ASH cuz the color of ash! i don't know about other people but mine was given to me by a friend who was about to put them to sleep. When i first met her she jumped up on me and wouldn't leave me alone, she was only 3 months at the time. When i found out he's going to do that to her? i ended up taking her, i always wanted a pet and it was my first TIME! GOD BLESS FOR BRINGING HER IN MY LIFE! my life has been so much better and stress free because me and her don't need anyone or rely on anyone. She's super sweet and super naughty, now she's 3.5 years old, i still look at her like a todler who can speak and understand but doesn't know anything so i personally guide her! she learned to climb high fences and much more in her first year being with me, i just to let her hang on the tree branches to make her limbs stronger! i wouldnt keep her there for like but for like 5 to 10 seconds! take a break then do it again all over. Mine also plays fetch, she loves hide and seek and also peek a boo! i'm not sure if that's weird but when ever something is wrong she lets me know, when someone is there she wants me to check so she maows and for some reason i understand everything and all of her maows her different! IT's like leaned another Language, FYI i do speak 5 Languages and also know 3 other which i can understand but cant speak yet... Very nice video, she loves her treats and i call it candy so she knows what it is, i dont give her one or two when she behaves i fill a tiny little amount in a bowl forher to eat once or twice a day, but she has to eat her proper food. She doesn't bother me much and is super super into intamcy, GOT HER SPAYED AND NOW I REGRET IT! took her to the vets it was mine and her first time in labour, so we both didn't know what to do, had to take her to the vets and none of the 3 first borns made it, TWO OF THEM DIDN'T MAKE IT in the hispital and i was no where inside with whats going on. The vets told me they all are healthy and alive and good to go but then BOOM money first and kittens gone, took her to the vet near my house to get the last kitten out cuz the emergency people told me to take her home with the one baby inside of her and said if it doesnt come out i should take her to the vets near my house. WENT THERE AND PAID A SLAP OF 3000 dollars to these guys, guilt me into getting her spayed which I WAS AGAINST! took the money and the kitten baby within two hours died taking it home. I didn't sleep for 2 days just to make sure i watch them both. She's never been hurt with me and loves me, i let her out each day from morning until she comes back on her own. we build a bond that no mater where she is? all i do is YELL ASSHHHHHH! she comes running... it's all about giving them love and not getting mad at them for doing things they didnt know, mine is special just like everyone else's but mine is smarter and more sharper then anyone else's WE BOTH GOT POTENTIal AND WE BOTH are growing at a sloweest rate so we can look young while we gain wisdom as we get older...I LOVE MY RUSSIAN GREEN ASHY! SHE'S THE BEAUTY AND I'M HER BEAST!

I have the most fantastic Russian blue! He’s absolutely gorgeous, he’s exactly as described about the sleeping, playing and curiosity. However he’s really good with other animals and children. He’s also the star of the room, and makes sure to get petted by everyone. I think it also helps he’s about 13 pounds so he’s not too scared 😂 I’ve also taught him tons of tricks, even using the toilet! Ask me any questions you might have about the breed!

Are they as bad as they seem in this video ? I’ve been looking to get one as a friend for my other 9 month kitty and they seem sassy. Is your cat like that? Or have you seen any other grey kittys like this video? I’m scared now lol
@jonathonE3 жыл бұрын
@@helenvqzz Mine is chill 95% of the time, however if he finds a sock or one of his toys he’ll go crazy for a minute or two playing with it. It’s actually really fun to watch as long as I’m not trying to focus on something. But he definitely keeps himself entertained during the day so I don’t really have to worry about him being destructive. My biggest issue that I’ve ran into is, space. They really do need as much play space (high and low) and toys as possible to be happy. In my experience, they are more like a dog than a cat. You can pretty much teach them anything. Also the video says that they are affectionate but aren’t lap cats, well that’s news to me because mine literally thinks my lap is the only seat in the house. Sorry got off topic a little bit there. Now for are there any other grey cats, yes there’s plenty of them. There’s British short hairs, domestic greys, chartreux, Korats, and my personal favorite Nebelungs.
@helenvqzz3 жыл бұрын
@@jonathonE oh thank you for replying. Would you say you got them used to you? Like you raised them to be how they are lol. I know that sounds weird to ask but it’s because my cat is really used to me holding him. This video about grey cats made them seem the opposite of the things you said
