I recently purchased one after watching my friend boil water before my stove, also butane based, had just warmed the water a little. My old stove was not wind resistant/proof, and did the job. After using this stove a few times in the field, I find it to be a great product, and upgrade, and will not be going back. The bag is okay with me, as I tend to put my burner in my cooking pot with other things.

I purchased the Soto Windmaster based on your review and I haven't been disappointed. I team the Windmaster with my Firebox nano and the 5" Gen2 and I think I have the best options available. You do an excellent job of reviewing and objectively analyzing the pros and cons. By far the best You Tube channel for stoves.

My favorite stove. I use the Tri-plex support. If I were to use a much larger pot (group cooking), I'd use the 4-Plex. But, I've never done that. I feel that the Soto Windmaster is superior to the MSR PocketRocket Deluxe. It is lighter (w/ Tri-plex) & it has closer spacing from the burner head to the pot (10mm vs 13mm). I would expect it to perform better (less potential for heat loss) over the PR Deluxe. I thought the stuff sack was too robust & I replaced it w/ a lighter one from Z-packs. No problems w/ the Cuben Fiber stuff sack yet. I recently bought the PR Deluxe & will try it out in a couple of weeks. I am a stove geek as well.

I paired my SOTO Windmaster with a 900ml pot that has a heat exchange (or flux ring) on the bottom, much like a jet boil pot, and it boiled a full pot of water in about 2min. It was very impressive.

Have had one for years now, great stove. A little taller than I like but needed to regulate and the concave burner head is a plus.. just use a canister brace. Probably the best one out of the ten or so I have.

Good video, but I have to say that I am surprised that you didn't do any kind of test of its ability to withstand the wind (as you have with other stoves). I love my Windmaster stove for all the reasons you mentioned--plus, how great it performs in the wind.

Looks like a great stove Dr. Ernie; we live in the mountains and wind is often a problem. Also live in fire danger area where a shutoff valve is often the only kind of stove permitted. Again thanks for a great informative video.

My Soto Amicus came in a reasonably heavy-duty small nylon bag. It's fine but I agree that a hard sided case makes far more sense for something with thin metal parts and connections. A pill bottle can make a good protective case, especially the larger size of the transparent prescription orange ones. I do like the nice hard plastic case the MSr Pocket Rocket 2 came with which allows just enough room for a Bic mini or small firesteel. I think the Soto is a superior stove though.

My Soto Amicus came in a pretty rugged nylon bag. Sturdier than the sack the Windmaster comes in, but definitely NOT a hard case. I believe you may be mistaking that with the hard white-ish case the Snow Peak Giga stove comes in. Me personally… the hard cases stay at home. Take too much space, and I like to stuff my bagged stove into my pot/cup. Great review otherwise. Please, keep up the objective and informative reviews.

Nice stove! So, are all stoves created equal when it comes to amount of fuel used per boil? I know some will take longer like the BRS. That is the stove I use because I am UL and cut weight where I can. Also at the time when I bought it I loved that it was only $15. If it uses a lot more fuel to boil I might think about a different one like the Soto.

I have yet to see a canister stove that is not susceptible to the wind. This is called the Wind master but yet do a review indoors. Almost every stove nerd on youtube reviews there stove (Boil Time & Fuel Consumption) indoors. Maybe some day, someone will review a stove when the wind is howling, temps below freezing and snowing. When my water is at 34° F and my fingertips are stinking cold that's when my stove when my stove needs to perform. Guess I'm in the minority.
@thomasmusso1147
@thomasmusso1147 3 жыл бұрын
ALL stoves are susceptible to wind .. to a lesser or greater degree. That's why we have Wind Screens .. and in howling blizzards and such, must look to even more effective protection from the elements. Reviewing / using stoves under field conditions .. there are plenty You Tube Videos out there that have done just that He did say that an outdoor review was to follow. Looking for a stove that will see you through most conditions? Get an Optimus Multi-Fuel Stove or similar. My White Gas Optimus 8R Hunter does Four Seasons well. It's cousin, the 123R is another good one.

@billheckman5937 3 жыл бұрын
@@thomasmusso1147 I am well aware that all stoves are susceptible to wind and screens are a must. It has been my experience that canister stove seem to be more susceptible and screening them from the wind is not as easy as other stoves due to the fact that you do not want heat build up around the canister and have yet to come across an effective easy to use wind screen. If this is the "Wind Master" let's start there with the test. Hiram Cook will use a box fan inside to better simulate actual conditions. Boiling water indoors tells me very little. I have had my share of buyer's remorse. Before pulling the trigger on the latest & greatest piece of equipment that I will be using with grandchildren in REAL conditions I would just appreciate a more indepth review, otherwise there is little sense wasting my time. Yes he did say more tests to follow. IMO this was little more than an unboxing. It is not my intention to insult Dr. Ernie or his loyal subscribers and if I hurt anyone's feeling I apologize.
