IS THE SSL 2+ STILL GREAT IN 2024?

We have a live streaming company, not doing music. We used the Focusrite 4i4 to bring in analog audio board outputs into vMix for our live streaming gigs. Several times over the past year, the Focusrites, on multiple units into multiple vMix system, would just stop working in the middle of live broadcasts. Not good. We tried reinstalling drivers and it would work for a while, but then randomly would just stop working. We kicked the Focusrites to the curb and replaced them with two 2+ and a 4+. So far, three months in, the SSLs have been rock solid, no weird driver issues or stopping workin in the middle of a live broadcast. Kudos to SSL, these seem to be a much more reliable product than Focusrite for our needs.

A guy who works in the industry recommended the SSL2+ it’s my first interface it does everything I need and the customer service is above and beyond.

I bought mine used for $100 and it has worked perfect for on the go. I don’t notice a huge difference between it and the Apogee Element which is what I mainly used. The separate monitor outs are very useful. I think all the entry level interfaces are quite good these days.

i bought it on 2021 as my 2nd audio interfaces. previously was using the focusrite scarlett 2i2 2nd gen, the scarlett 2i2 drivers drives me crazy when i was in a live stream projects or recording projects. when the ssl comes in things has been change. the reliable drivers clean sound high dynamic range better than the scarlett in anyways i straight sold off the focusrite in order to recover from buying the ssl. until today the ssl2+ are still rocking solid even compare with the scarlett 2i2 4th gen.

I have the SSL 12, connected via adat to a Behringer 8x8 preamp. Works great. Now I just need to get a decent control surface.

I actually made CD for a friend. It sounded very nice. However, I used VINTECH 573 preamp also with it for the vocals. I'm happy for what it is. The only thing that would be nice is the looping .

I think its great for what it is hands down...my main interface is the Apogee Symphony DeskTop..which I really love and it just sounds amazing, it has the same converters as their flagship interfaces, built in dip and effects..unfortunately ...it isn't buss powered...so in I'm mobile and not close any electrical inputs its dead in the water...so if I'm on the go the my SSL S+ is perfect if I need to get audio into my Mac. If I'm really trying to have a really compact and mobile setup then I have the Apogee Mic+ and the Jam+ but the SSL 2+ has them both beat as far as overall connectivity. Yes..I think it's still great in 2024 personally.

Bought the last release of SSL 2+ from Thomann several weeks ago and returned back! Its quality is very bad. They changed the design. The D/A and CODEC chips inside was changed to Cirrus logic instead the AKM and the still listed in the specs as AKM. The op-amps used in the last release is different than the initial design and also the electrolytic capacitors was replaced from Nichicon to low quality Fujicon. In sounding it really sound bad. Then I measured the harmonic distortions with my Panasonic Audio Analyzer. The distortions of the main output are significantly higher. They goes to 0.01% but if the main volume know is up to 70%. On 100% of the volume know the distortions reach 0.11% (and still the output level hardly goes to 0VU / +4dbu). I'm totally disappointed by the SSL2+ and because I return back the products now I cannot rate in on the Thomann site. Keep in mind all these facts when buy this product!

I remember having such a hard time choosing between the motu m2 and the ssl2+ when I was first picking an audio interface to buy, in the end I'd settled with the motu m2 due to the price and its form factor

I think for 200$ the Audient id14 mkii is the better choice, but for 150$ the SSL 2 is great if you just need 2 mic preamps and are okay with 1 stereo out

be wary of their quality. mine stopped functioning properly after 2 years. no visible damage but 'reboots' or reconnects to usb every single time it is bumped or a button is pressed.

Would you say LoopBack isn't on your recommendation list? I was under the impression that this was quite useful, in its routing abilities.

@PawFromTheBroons it all depends on the person. I love loopback...and I don't know if I could live without it anymore. Though...I am not sure...did I give the impression that I didn't like it? The company did update the firmware to include it...which made it a nonstarter

And they just announced a facelift with... different outputs, and 2dB more gain. I love my 2+ so I'm sure the new one is still good but it's kinda disappointing

@@DarkCornerStudios Faulty product. I bought it on Amazon after some months the 4K buttons lit up for no reason and then the entire thing stopped working. I got a replacement. This time after a year I started hearing noise as I would increase the volume. Shortyl after same thing: 4K buttons light up and whole thing breaks down.
