City fan here. We had the same issue when we first got the Etihad (an athletics stadium originally). The only solution to get the seats right up to pitchside is to lower the pitch and then put in extra rows of seats. Probably cost a packet to do this but its worth it.
@whuzak8 жыл бұрын
Steven, at the Etihad did they actually complete restructure each individual stand to bring it closer to the pitch? Just curious to know
@stevenpoke23678 жыл бұрын
No, they just dug out the ground so that the pitch is lower than ground level - you notice it when you go in the stadium - the pitch is "underground". This then enables you to put in extra rows of seats that are still on a slope until they reach pitchside. I think theyve done it twice but obviously theres a limit because every time you do it the area available for the pitch gets less and less. I do think however that when the stadium was built for the Commonwealth games, the agreement was in place from the outset for City to move in so it was designed specifically to be converted into a football stadium afterwards. Not sure if they did this with the London stadium but they don't seem to have considered the distance from stands to pitch.
@floeha46178 жыл бұрын
Good idea but I think this isn't possible because we don't own the stadium, it's just rented.
@stevenpoke23678 жыл бұрын
City don't own the Etihad it is owned by Manchester City Council but they have good relations with them .The agreement was always in place for City to be tenants and they have been allowed to drop the pitch twice and expand the south stand. A third tier will go on the north stand next. Not sure what kind of arrangement West Ham have with the owners of the stadium but surely its everyones interests to make the club and fans happy with a stadium fit for football?
@joelcoyi89398 жыл бұрын
dropping the pitch would be a great idea. i read about this the other day when i was wondering how the etihad is so close even though it was originally built for athletics. only trouble is with the olympic stadium i think ( might be wrong) that part of the lease agreement was to keep the running track thats why they have got that retractable seating. its a nice stadium just not for football. maybe when the two daves sell up we will get a new owner who has the passion and funds to build a new boleyn. we can dream!

That sounds like a good idea with ticket trading. At Arsenal there was no thought going forward with keeping fans together going in to the Emirates Stadium. Traditionally it was the North Bank and Clock End that generated the majority of noise at Highbury. They should have thought about keeping fans together in similar sections going in to the new stadium. The atmosphere in the Emirates has suffered ever since. It takes time to build relationships with people say around you. It never ceases to amaze me when clubs take things like this for granted. You boys made Upton Park a great venue to come to. Great atmosphere and a tough place to play. That new stadium is not fit for football and your owners knew it. That's what must hurt every fan. Yeah more cash is nice but football is about the fans. We don't care how rich our clubs are we just want to see passion, effort and skill on the pitch. And have a half decent view of the game among friends in the stands. Good luck to you lads but I feel for you. Should never have left your home.

I was further away at Wembley for the Blackpool play off game. and the noise was raucous. Obviously a play off everyone sings. But it shows in a big stadium you can make noise. We haven't got many songs, where is the creativity. However remember how loud it was at 2-0 up against Watford. Until some booing started in the BML and Watford then scored. The rest is downhill

Why not just build another 20 rows of seats right by the pitch and have them retractable. True this would obstruct the views of the equivalent seats behind. But if you leave those empty it's no different as a section of space to the empty space between the current row 1 and the pitch. So just relocate the empty zone from pitch-row 1 to, say, row 20-40. Problem solved.

At the end of the day if these smaller clubs are able to come in and score 3 or 4 goals against us in the London Stadium, why can't we do it? We've had more matches in the stadium then they have including the pre-season games, but they seem to be able to perform. Out of 6 premier league games we've lost 5 and they've not all have been at home... The form of our team is shocking at the moment. I was blaming the defence at the beginning purely for letting in so many goals but now our attacking half isn't even creative enough. With players such as Zaza, Lanzini, Antonio and Payet up front there's no excuse. As a fan there's nothing you can do but sit back and watch these games on edge... it's awful
@sagahammer8 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with the pitch or the atmosphere. When we were two up against Watford the roar in the ground was deafening. It is a shame that we have been giving free gifts of goals to mediocre teams. Fuck all to do with the stadium. We are badly organised in defence and our full backs are being isolated time and time again. There is also poor communication and our midfield give the ball away cheaply.

the stadium isn't the main reason the hammers are losing. it's the players and coach. west hams back 4 are just pure shambles. at times I see 2 central defenders overlapping each other onto one side and full backs were nowhere to be seen. there needs to be more discipline and structure in your defence. you may be able to steal a goal but it would be useless if you leak 4. this should be hammers main priority at the moment. fix your defence and grind out games until the next window.

Keep Nicky far from the board. He only gives the worst possible version of how it is. Last year he was bitching about ticket prices, about purchasing prices, about the board lying to the fans. @WESTHAMFANTV8 жыл бұрын
gofastandwynn I respect you're opinion, and you're entitled to it. I have been supporting this club all my life. I have been through the ups and the downs , highs and lows, tough times and great times in the last 30 years I've been going. I've seen players , managers, back room staff, chairman, tea lady's kit men physios , you name it I've seen them come, and go. The only consistency I've ever seen in this club, the 1 thing that is there , through all of these times is the fans. People traveling up and down the country, week in week out, spending hard earned money for the right to do so. The same faces on the terraces, in the bars, on the concourses. The heart beat of the football club , the 1 thing that cannot and will not change is us. I praise the board, when it's due. I was full of praise when they released the ticket prices for this year, that's great good job! But I'm not going to praise them when they fuck over the people that are this club. Moving us into a stadium that quite clearly is not only not designed for football, but isn't safe either. Giving people Who have been standing on every terrace since the late 70s LIFE bans for doing something they have been doing for 40 years, just because it affects the opportunity to make more money by having extra seats. Selling out owned home , then moving into a rented place but filling the squad with free transfers and loans to scrape by when the opportunity is there to make this stadium a fortress! The list can go on and on and on, but do you know why I talk about the shit so much? Because it affects us, the heartbeat and core of this club, and i don't want to stand by and let the great people that support this club suffer in silence. If we keep quiet , like we have for so many years , they will keep fucking us over left right and centre. WHFTV was created to amass a following and give fans a platform to challenge this bollocks, because there is strength in numbers, but also to let them know when they are doing things the right way. Rest assured though, when they are doing the right things, you will hear that widespread , they will even tell you themselves. Things are shit, we have been lied to, we was ripped off for tickets the last season at the Boleyn, in fact they are still doing it now with the claret membership. If you are happy with them treating you like shit, and fleecing you at every opportunity, that's fine mate, go ahead, that's up to you, but myself, I haven't got blinkers on . I support the team , not the hierarchy.

What people don't realise historically on the continent and around the world football is mostly played huge cavernous stadiums with athletic tracks . Look at old tapes, European and world cup finals etc were played in Olympic stadiums.....It's only in Britain where football stadiums were traditionally close to the pitch with the exception of the old Wembley stadium. It's what made the old Wembley iconic because it was huge open stadium with the player emerging from behind the goal .. This particular new West ham stadium will take getting use too, but the secret is to take a proffessional approach. At Tottenhams training ground Pochettino has installed a playing surface the size of Wembleys playing area so players can get use to it. etc. Tottenham recently played in Australia at the MSG another enormous stadium with wide open spaces converted for football... You will just have to get use to the stadium and stop whinging. West ham to me are badly run. It seems to be run by non football business people..

life long West Ham fan and please stop moaning about the stadium . Loved Upton Park, but it was to small for the 21st century football . Any way about the results West Ham have always had the consistently of the British weather, no two games the same , even in the great day's of Moore, Hurst, Boorking and Bonzo. A part from the old year we would never go more the 3 or 4 game with back to back wins. Also we would beat a top side, but next game lose to the bottom side. Andlets honest this side is not as bad us the late 1980s early 1990s West Ham side there were awful

But b4 that they will be going down & I can see League one on the horizon. The pitch is so remote from the fans & players...the fans don't get the ADRENALIN & like wise for the players.....ADRENALIN is the twelth man........ That's our problem.....it's a Stadium from the '70's AKA Stamford Bridge. Move or refit as a football stadium....& don't cock it up this time!!!!!! or WHU could be reformed by the fans from scratch.

Nick why do you just keep blaming the stadium as you are clearly doing in this video ? why not address the real problem, we over achieved last season, and weakened the squad with selling Tompkins etc this summer and bringing in players that are just not good enough for the premier league. If we had won our home games you wouldn't keep banging on the same drum regarding the ground. Yes it has got problems, but they can be rectified in time with real engineering solutions, other clubs have done the same like man city. Address the real issues and stop using the ground as an excuse, we lost away so how can that be the grounds fault ? All your doing is constantly criticising and being negative, we are not going back to the Boleyn so we have to focus on getting behind our club not making it a mockery

What a bunch of moaners you lot are, you move into the Olympic Stadium for basically nothing and you blame poor performances on the distance from the pitch. Oh look the defence made a mistake, oh look Payet gave the ball away, oh look Calleri skewed his shot wide. Don't worry guys it's not that we brought sub-standard players, it's not that the defence isn't organised enough, it's because the fans are a few metres further back. Do me a favour. Why don't you get real? a football pitch is a football pitch. Do you seriously expect us to believe that any mistakes made wouldn't have been made last season just because it was at the Boleyn. You seem to think that if the fans move forward a few metres then you lot will win the Champions League. Get real!
