I think that the cost of the dice is essentially 60% of the beginner game is why this is solid purchase. Assuming you'll need the dice anyway, you're getting a some basic characters, some resources (that you can always just hand down to new players), some useful tokens, and a couple of adventures for not that much more than just buying the dice.

I recommend any GM to get one of the starter boxes, what every the level of experience is. I have one copy of each starter box, and its mainly to get the tokens, maps and above all the Dice. Sure you can buy dice cheeper by only buying the dice packs, but here you get so much more for a good price. And the adventures are great for both beginners and experienced players. I have even had a campaign start, then hooking into the Edge of the empires starter box adventure, and then leading of to other adventures, by tweaking the reason for the situation the players face at the start of the adventure in the box.

Great Job! The Beginner Boxes are awesome- I have all 4 of them. I love the maps in all of them but the one from the Force Awakens is a Star Wars Galaxy map and looks awesome! Keep up the great content! If you get 2 boxes - you get 2 sets of dice!

It's honestly worth it just to get the dice at this point. The extra stuff is a nice bonus. I picked up all of the beginner boxes so I'd have the internal assets and tokens as well as beginner games of various types/eras based on new players who may wanna try the game before committing to the game. Plus, all those dice :)

This product and the other two, Age of Rebellion and Force and Destiny, have to be one of the best beginner products out there. Everything is contained but leaves you excited for more, you can run it as a fun one-shot for your friends and forget about it, the quality is great and the flavor is on point.

I'd say yes, but please remember when this was first released there were 4 beginner box games one for each core rulebook and then one based around The Force Awakens. If they plan on going for the core rulebooks I'd say yes as its particularly useful especially because of the dice. If the system interests you then better mention about Genesys which is the generic rules for this game. The three core rulebooks are; Edge of the Empire dealing with smuggling, bountyhunters, etc Age of Rebellion basically the rebel alliance have yet to see anyone use it for Imperial play though its an option. Force and Destiny is the last book and deals with force users. There's quite a few supplmental books for each of these three dealing with classes, equipment and other details such as the Hutts, specific Star Wars areas but if you go this far you will have better resources to give you the details on these. Finally don't let Disney put you off this is quite a good game so shouldn't be ignored because of the mess Disney has been making of the franchise! Best wishes!

I’m not sure if you’re aware of Brotherwise Games new Stormlight RPG based on the series by Brandon Sanderson. The kickstarter launches on August 6th, as does the Beta Testing. One of the reasons it may interest you is that Andrew Fischer is a lead writer on the RPG, and previously helped to design the Starwars RPG. The game is D20 based, but also includes Narrative dice, Brotherwise recently discussed these on their KZbin channel.

Something that makes me happy about my beginner box (so far unused) is the pregenerated sheets. For my friends who aren’t used to RPGs making a character would be a dealbreaker, but now I can hand them this until they learn

Fun scenario! I've run this for Free RPG Day at the local game store. Also run it multiple times for people new to the game. I would recommend all three starter sets, even for veteran players. The dice are great along with the maps and material. I've run them and played in them, and am glad to have them. I would recommend one of the Game Master's screens though. They are setup with excellent reference tables.

I reuse the map and tokens from the age of rebellion a lot. Hard to find cheap minis so these beginner boxes are nice for that once the one shot is done.

Hello! I’ve recently gotten into edge of the empire and did the starter adventure in this box. It was fun! Love your videos they’ve helped me understand the game! Trying to find a core rulebook to buy so we can roll our own characters, but i can’t find it anywhere. Any tips?

Asmodee store is your best bet. They restock every few months so just keep a look out. (Free PDFs online you can find easily and use as a placeholder, but please buy book as soon as it comes back in stock)

Nice review! I still have my original Beginner boxes. I always thought they gave a great experience for getting into the system. The dice alone are worth half the box cost, and the character folios are one of the better beginner player onboarding experiences I've seen. I noticed these all had Edge on the printing, so I'm assuming they finally reprinted the beginner boxes? Are all 4 available? Even the one from Episode 7? Really hope they start releasing some new stuff from Edge.

I have not been impressed with the FFG starter sets. I have 2 for Star Wars and the L5R set. The box itself is horribly flimsy; about as sturdy as a cereal box, and it doesn’t open the way starter sets have opened since 80’s dnd sets, opening from the top edge. Just like a cereal box. Combine that with characters that aren’t compatible with the character creation rules in the core books (you can’t make the characters as is using the core books) and not teaching the same rules as the core books ( I don’t recall if they did this with Star Wars, as it has been a long while since I read those starters, but the L5R set definitely is not the same combat rules as the core book). Aside from these issues, they are good sets, and contain useful maps and tokens for later games as you mentioned. I am just baffled by why the issues I mentioned are there. Compared to starter sets by Modiphius or Free League, and FFG had really dropped the ball.

As someone who had to seek out third party dice I actually think the box is good just because it's a primer and a playable set, but I don't think the edge of the empire beginner adventure is very good I tried running it while letting my players make their own character and they renamed some skills arbitrarily which was annoying and some of the events and prompts felt like they wanted to be linear without giving enough cues, it was strange and frustrating

I think it’s more or less primed at people playing table top RPG’s for the first time because they’re less likely to try to get off the rails.

New to all this newer SW RPG stuff, I played 20+ years ago with all the WEG books. Now that I'm in my 40's, I'd like to have some friends over and re play some of the adventures. With the new stuff, is it all light side. If I wanted to play stormtroopers, darkside and all, is there stuff just for that. Can someone tell me what would be best to get in that scenario? Thanks.

The force and destiny book definitely has dark side info, and Age of Rebellion book, while tailored to Rebels, isnt hard to change it to a stormtrooper perspective.

How do you recommend mixing the systems? The group of players I have want to be a mix of rebels, a smuggler, and a Jedi trained survivor.

Id pick between Duty OR Obligation for all players but they should all be on the same type. Force Users you can choose to either also do Morality or you can choose not to. Besides that one part of characters the different books work perfectly fine together

Okay I'm having trouble man, I haven't played the Starwars RPG yet, I want to start (I DM Call of Cthulhu and D&D) But i can not find a single core rule book, their are loads of expansions but i wanna run Force and Destiny, I'm just looking for a core book to run the game with and Amazon is like "You want all these other expansions or lego kits?!?!" Sooooo i don't know what im missing haha I just wanna run a Knights of the Old Republic story but can't find a book *Help me Tabletop Empire, you're my only hope*

(there are PDFs online of the core books you can find for free. I ONLY say this to say use them as a placeholder until they come back in stock and you can buy one. The books come back in stock every few months so keep an eye on the asmodee store website.) The Asmodee SWRPG page is going to be your best bet for finding stock online.

Do they still sell it? I thought FFG lost their rights to the IP, no? I want to find "real" dice so bad, but they are not to be found in my country apparently.

Acquired by Asmodee then shifted to EDGE Studio. Same people / employees running it though. Dice and books are being reprinted every few months.

I got this recently and was disappointed with the quality of the box itself, but the contents are great (except the cardboard spacer, why not make it slimmer!?).
