My experience is you need to tweak the car a bit with mods, this will improve the track experience a lot. Starting with better brake pads and brake fluid ( Tesla uses DOT 3 🤣). Then go for good tires (Michelin PS4S instead of the Pirellis), lighter wheels and maybe even an adjustable coilover suspension. For about 4k you will have a good car for the usual 15min stints on track days.

15 minutes of track time? Are you serious?

he's saying it'll be good for 15 minute sessions, which is on the short side of typical for most track days@@rickybobby7276

Looks like it’s got a lot of body roll. Does it handle as good as other cars you’ve ran on the track?
@SpectroRacingChannel2 жыл бұрын
Body roll isnt always neccesarily a bad thing since you can use it to manage the weight. It's not so bad really at least compared to stock. Mine is lightly modified. It needs those few mods though to run the sticky tires effectively or else its body roll and squat issues are really bad. But it's by far the best handling car I've driven. It could use slightly stiffer springs but I cant do that in the class I'm in, in autocross. You cant really compare this thing to much else yet. Maybe the closest comparison is some sort of mid engined car with awd, but no snap oversteer issues.
@Ronin-ge3cn Жыл бұрын
I’ve just recently rented a long range model 3 and took it on the mountains around shenendoah valley and the handling was impressive, more precise and predictable than my s2000 and I wasn’t fighting the car so hard in the hard corners and was able to accelerate through corners without worrying about oversteering, and that was a rental car on rental car all season continental tires lol very impressed with the car

@@SpectroRacingChannelI know I’m hellishly late but can you feel the weight? Really the only thing keeping me from wanting an EV is how much they weigh, but maybe if it’s tuned out from being noticeable from the factory well enough I’d be willing to give it a chance

just up shocks and pads? no sway bars or coilovers?
@SpectroRacingChannel9 ай бұрын
The shocks are coilovers. They are the single adjustable from Unplugged performance. I just am using stock springs since its a daily and the autocross class requires you to keep stock springs. I am running a stiffer rear bar from UPP as well.

I like teslas, just not made for the track. Try picking up an older Porsche Cayman S. Inspent 30k and nearly track ready and built for the track.
@det_tf25 ай бұрын
I think you'd be surprised, went around a track in a 2018 Model 3 Performance and those things absolutely rip. The weight isn't as big an issue as some car reviewers make it out to be; a new Model 3 is a hundred pounds heavier than a BMW M3, and it has a lower center of gravity. The Model 3 driver said he absolutely loves it on the track, both from how it drives and because it has way lower running costs. Apparently it was a lot more reliable than his other track cars. The Performance was actually really loud once it got off the track though, Tesla must use some massive fans to cool down the drivetrain or something. That Porsche might be cheap to buy, but it won't be cheap to run. The cost of gas alone skews the value meter, let alone everything else.

Cayman is probably my next car after the Tesla. Or w/e Porsche has in a few years as i heard they are retiring them. Ive been facing off against them in TA and in Autocross and seems like it would be a fun platform. Thanks!

Mine is a Model 3 Perfmance. Though the Y isnt to much different. Bit taller and heavier. But with an EV taller doesnt really mean that much with the center of gravity so low

@SpectroRacingChannel9 ай бұрын
Its an extremely well balanced car that really just needs better cooling and 2 piece rotors. Sliding was probably my over aggressive driving and the tires getting hot at the end of the session. It has won multiple FTDs at autocross though. I consider myself a fairly mid but experienced driver so that tells you how decent it is.

All I see is a person who just through the car in to the turn and lets the AWD to it's thing and there is no real off nanny in this car since it's still manage the AWD according to acceleration sensors.
