I sold my quest 3 to buy a tobii tracker 5 about 5 months ago. I regretted it before I even started up a sim and after using the tracker for 2 days I sold that and went and bought a quest 3 again. The tobii is kind of ok but try using your hotas on your desk or a steering wheel and see how well it works then. VR is the way forward. The tobii doesn't even come close enough to be considered. Tbh this whole video felt like an ad, especially coming from yourself, and then the sweepstakes and 20% off just confirmed it. Still, won't argue with anyone trying to get paid

I had totally the opposite experience to you using the Beam Eye Tracker. I was using a gaming laptop with MSFS 2020 and found the app to be very accurate, both with head and eye tracking. (I can't compare it to the Tobii Eye Tracker since I've never owned one.) Maybe my results were due to the camera I used, my head being closer to the camera, the screen being a relatively small one (16 inches) - I don't know the reason(s), but I found the Beam Eye Tracker to be very good and excellent value.

A very timely video (even if it is sponsored). I cannot justify £800 for a decent VR headset, and I don't have the space for triple screens. I also fly mostly airliners and some GA. Last year I bought a head tracking product from DelanClip (which uses OpenTrack). It is very similar to TrackIR5. Initially I quite liked it, but over time, I just found it more annoying than good. I didn't like having a heavy 3D printed IR emmiter velcroed onto to my headphones and getting into my peripheral vision. It also kept slipping down and the whole view would sag to the left. I also found it difficult to operate switches because the view was moving around. Finally, I found it either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. I became really interested in the Tobii for 2 reasons: 1) you don't have to have anything on your head, and 2) the new eye tracking combined with head tracking software. My question is, does that new software feature really make a big difference to the experience? And how easy is it to control cockpit switches when your view is moving around according to your head and eyes? Spending another £223 when I already bought one thing that didn't work feels like quite a risk, and I need to be sure it's a wise purchase.

If VR hadn't appeared in flight simulation, I would never have gone back to "fun" in 2D. Flying in VR, when you once in real life, is the only tangible option to feel, there again... I am X-Plan 11, so despite the limitations, it is still the closest to my memories of real flying ;-) (sorry for my engish)
@paulsaunders653613 сағат бұрын
Seriously thinking about getting one. A nice alternative to VR for the very reasons you describe. Plus there are a few planes in DCS that do not have clickable cockpits that makes them almost impossible to fly effectively. Mapping and remembering all those keys? Forget it..😊

With the right monitor, the Tobii can give you a "near" 3D experience. I've been using the Tobii on a 4K LG Flex 42 OLED monitor since earlier this year, and have found the combo to be extremely immersive. I have cervical neck issues that make wearing VR googles for an extended period of time to be very uncomfortable. Having options like the Tobii with a nice 4K monitor is a great option for many people who have issues with VR... If LG makes a larger 48" Flex, I'd trade up for that. Or, if Samsung would make a 55" curved OLED Odyssey Ark.

When I was getting my private pilots license I didn't use flight sim tech at all because it didn't give me the depth perception I needed to be in the cockpit. If the eye tracker 5 had been around it would have made flight sim more useful for obtaining my license. Cockpit management is challenging and having to navigate your view along with instruments air traffic control is too much.

Am currently using passive TrackIR which works perfectly well, and is apparently still better than the Tobii for head tracking, I don't know what I am missing with the eye tracking part. When you tried the Beam software did you have a 60 fps camera? I tested it recently and a decent webcam helps. You might want to spell Tobii right in the title to keep your sponsors happy.

Your clips demonstrate exactly what is seriously wrong with MSFS2024. The fighter jet's display screens are COMPLETELY washed out, so much that you cannot see ANY information on them. This is absolutely nuts. Asobo already had problematic MFD and PFD displays in FS2020. They were generally far too lacking in brightness and crispness. But, even worse is that when you flew the Airbus, though the displays were much better, the price paid was the exterior, a riot of over exposed, over-saturated and indistinct smudges. This sim is worst piece of software ever for a complete failure in balanced visuals.
