Looking for a used Toyota Corolla? - carsforsale.com.au/toyota/cor...
If you're after a second-hand Corolla, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Toyota has made over 45 million Corollas since 1966 and this model, the 11th generation 2012 to 2019 Corolla, was one of the world's highest-selling cars when it was new, meaning there are loads to choose from on the second-hand market, but while there are loads of these available, the real question is, should you buy one? Let’s find out.
Additional videos and images are used for illustrative purposes, under the provision of 'Fair Use'.
If you are the owner of any material, please contact us: contact@thedrivennetwork.com.au
---
At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.
Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.
Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.
So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.
We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

I’m starting to see why they’re so popular. I know it’s kinda obvious but I think this is the byword for reliable and that really is the number one thing people look for. The more I look around, you can spend 4x as much on something to get you from A to B, but unless it’s a Lexus, it will probably give you more trouble which is ironic. Your prices were also pre-pandemic which makes me realise how good a deal it was to snag reliable transport in 2019.

Reliable is just code for how long you can ignore maintenance. My partner's 2018 Corolla Ascent Sport has a driveshaft seal leak and Toyota want $300 dollars to fix it. So we just ignore it.

I bought a 1989 carolla with 180,000km. Drove it to 250,000. Gave it to me sister, she drove it to 320000 then sold it for $1000. It never skipped a beat. So no shame in saving a bit of money and buying a high km car. It will still last you.

Uk viewere here. Thanks for the channel, not may focusing on used cars, so great to see. I bought a 2018 one of these to replace a 2009 mk II mazda 3. Gorra be honest, I miss the mazda's driving, but not it's issues (engine seals, corrosion, brake calipers, kneock / air sensors). In comparison to the mazda, this thing handles like a tug. It's very front heavy and the 1.2 manual has very noticable turbo lag, which makes pulling out in town frustrating, add to that it's very much less than stellar performance even when the turbo finally kicks in. You find yourself waxing nostaligic for old naturally aspirated, predictable power performance, more so than expected.I'd say the trurbo kicks in at mid band rather than low band. The variable valve was fun and predictable in the Mazda, but since it was a ford design, I tried to stay out of it. However, it still had enough grunt to pull away from stand still into traffic, with confidence, unlike the toyota. The old Mazda 3 was a fun car to drive though, especially in the twisties where I could put many more expensive german brands to shame, and the mpg between the two is not as great as I had hoped (it's around an extra 5mpg for the toyota, and you have to drive like a granddad, the car wont really let you do otherwise). Plus I really miss the cabin of the Mazda, proper knobs and buttons with dual zone climate contol (that leaked). I could operate everything without taking my eyes off the road, unlike to Toyota. It also looked better and was betetr designed egonomically. I could reach the streeing wheel with both arms, resting both elbows, one on the door rest, and the other on the centre console. Unlike the Toyota where you can only rest one the centre conole cos the door rest is too low down. So why did I buy one over a similarly priced civic, mazda or seat? It's because I can magically find the lemon in any car lot and buy it, and I'm hoping toyota relaibility, or at least it's new extended warranty, will let me buy a used car that doesn't cost the best part of a grand in maintenance and repairs every year. 10 years from original registration, rolling, as long as it's serviced by a main dealer every year, this is applying to any toyota bought from anywhere (UK). Hopefully that pays off in the long run. As it is, I can live with the car, it's comfy enough to sit in, and it's not the worst car I have driven. The uk spec ones have more features as standard, but smaller engines if your not choosing the hybrid. Worth noting though, the catalytic converters for the hybrid and automatic engines are frequently stolen, but you can buy an optional security brace to deter this.
@ReDriven
@ReDriven 2 жыл бұрын
Firstly, thank you for such a well written and descriptive comment. We really appreciate you taking the time pout to write this. We never received the 1.2 turbo engine here and I'd love to have a drive of one just to see how it performs (or as you mentioned, under performs). I'm hoping you have a faultless time with the Corolla. Many of my friends own Corollas and as far as I know, none have had any issues what so ever. Again, thank you for watching and commenting, we genuinely appreciate it. - AK

Modern Mazda3s since the Ford partnership thankfully ended have been extremely reliable. Anything from the 3rd gen 2013 BM is great as it isn’t based on a Ford Focus. I drive one myself, it’s a great car - just as reliable as a Corolla but more fun to drive with a nicer interior as you said. I don’t think you should fear Mazda anymore but I understand how a negative experience like that would put someone off - but you were basically driving a Ford so Ford reliability was to be expected.

I've been driving I've of these recently and I have a couple of observations. 1. The engine sounds a lot rougher than I would expect from Toyota 2. It uses heaps more fuel than I would expect. They both might be something to do with the CVT making sure it's never in the right gear, I don't know. I talked to the mechanic and he said that's pretty normal.

Hi all, Toyota owner past twenty years. Three Prius and a Corolla hybrid (2017). Runs the drive train as Prius. The secret is stick to six monthly servicing or 10,000 kilometres if your a high mileage driver. Don’t get seduced by annual servicing, new or especially second hand. The problems become worse and this is proven by our experience with the Prius and Corolla. Both are over five years old, the Corolla 111000 kilometres. The twice yearly servicing and hybrid drive train mean 100% reliability with no major repairs or breakdowns and avoids oil burning issues at 100000 kilometres plus. 10:30 The stepdaughter has the Corolla and we still have the Gen4 Prius. Both cars will get transmission fluid change soon for longevity. Sorry you won’t get that from Korean or Chinese cars. Mazda and 10:30 10:30 Honda are also at the same level as Toyota ( currently running a Mazda3 and have owned a Civic and CRZ). Cheers

For example my car, a Mazda3 that was launched around the same time as this gen of Corolla in 2013/14 can be retrofitted with CarPlay into the default system.

I own one and it's good I've have no issues other than the occasional confusion that it gets off the lights. Sometimes if I give it a punt it gets stuck in a rev range but that's not an issue either

We got one of these as a hire car for a week touring down south in NZ. Super basic and utilitarian is how I’d describe it. It was like going back to the cars we used to have in the 90s. It did the job of going from A to B though so all good on that front. One thing that surprised us was how microscopic the boot space was. Definitely not the car to tour in with luggage. That’s my fault for being too tight on the hire car rates haha! Luckily we pack light and with some spill over into the back seats with the kids we could just fit it all in. But even a load of groceries for the family you’d be struggling. There’s better options out there, especially when you pay that (unjustified?) premium price of the Toyotas (in NZ that is). I found driving this car like pushing round a dead donkey. No power anywhere, dead feel on everything, man it was bad. But if driving is not your thing, and let’s face it that seem to like 90% of the population nowadays, it’s fine. Does the job I guess. “Meh” is the word that encompassed the experience on that one I thought. 99% reliable for sure, and if that’s your ultimate priority then go for it, but… meh.

I've had three 1990 Corolla Secas over the course of about 20 years, they are as exciting as peeling paint, but - nothing EVER went wrong with any of them, if you slap some nice rims on them they actually looks pretty slick and if/when the kids gouged the trim - no one cared. The carbie engines were horrible, fuel injected much better.. in fact I'm starting to talk myself into buying a well-looked after one for about $3000, slapping a Levin engine in it, Celica box, some rims, Michelin Pilots, struts and an exhaust - for $15,000 you've got a retro sleeper... hmmmm.... lemme think..

I’ve owned 2 Corollas in the past, when I still lived back home in Sydney. Amazing cars, absolutely awesome. I’m looking at getting Corolla number 3 here in the UK, but can only afford one from around 2005/06. Apparently the European Corollas burn vast amounts of oil as they get old due to a bad piston ring design that was rectified in mid-2005. If this could be verified that would be brilliant! My current car (2003 Avensis) is burning oil faster than I can afford to buy it! I don’t want a repeat of this dodgey Toyota engine. It’s going to be sold for parts soon :(

i30 because of the space at the back is nearly 100 litres more than corolla and there is a full size spare tyre which corolla does not have. i30 has annual servicing not 6 months like this one and i30 has more options than corolla for more affordable price and has no faults recorded from the Australian government car recall compared to corolla because of the faulty world wide airbags. Get a i30 because you are buying what you need and performance don't buy for reputation and reselling it because you need a car to do the stuff you need. i30 parts are competitive and affordable and less break down than a corolla in the 21st century so be aware

Who cares Craig, most people just want to get from A to B safely, economically and reliably - such is the core purpose of a car. Many live in suburbs and the city. The Corolla does that well and is no wonder it’s the best selling car in the world - clearly a ton of people disagree with you. I prefer the 2.5L + 6sp auto in my Mazda3 (plus the nicer interior, MZD with CarPlay) over the Corolla’s 1.8L + CVT but I know a lot of people won’t care about that and want something fuel efficient, reliable and cheap to service.

Yep - and that's completely ok. I love driving, but if my Aunty wanted advice on a used car, I'd point her in the direction of a Corolla or an i30 eleven times out of ten.
