A Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician reviews the latest generation Toyota Corolla Sedan,Hybrid and Hatchback and shares common problems and hidden features.
So Should you buy a Toyota Corolla? The corolla is one of the oldest names that Toyota has. It's a very basic and reliable entry level car that has captured a special place in the Toyota Line up for a very long time.
In this video I'll do a proper review of the 12th generation Toyota Corolla. We'll start the video with a review of the averrable engines including the 1.8L 2ZR-FAE and the 2.0L M20A-FKS engines.
Then I'll share with you what makes the Toyota Corolla special and dear to my heart. And you guessed it, It's simplicity. But added to the simplicity is features that are highly demanded and often only found in high end cars which is standard on the Corolla.
I'll also share with you things I don't like about the Toyota Corolla. Then we'll dive into the Common problems of this generation Toyota Corolla like the water inside the doors and more.
Lastly I will share with you some hidden features.
There's no doubt that the Toyota Corolla Hybrid is the standout of this generation. And the Toyota Corolla Apex model is the worst one at least in my humble opinion.

Dealerships are skilled at denying coverage for warranty items -- I think they go to school for it. But their biggest escape is in the line" that is not spelled out for coverage in the warranty". At least Nissan used that line on me. Haven't bought a Nissan since.

It’s not the dealership. The manufacturers are terrible to deal with and deny dealer claims. So lazy dealers it’s easy to tell the customer the manufacturer denied it without fighting the denial. For customer pay they only have the customer to worry about. Dealerships have warranty departments that do nothing but pitch fights with the OEM. The OEM pays under warranty and reimbursed the dealer, so if they deny, the dealer does

I just bought a 2023 Toyota Corolla LE hybrid several weeks ago (June of 2023). On the first tank of gas I babied it for break in and got over 60 mpg. 😅. My last five years I had been driving the Toyota Avalon. For my first 600 miles I have been very impressed with this car. The seating is very comfortable and it handles much better than I expected. I bought the Corolla for its efficiency and reliability and I’m a happy owner.

@wholeNwon Your comment almost confirms my suspension about a "free" oil change I got for my Honda CR-V I had 15 years ago. I took it to the dealer and I think there was one mechanic servicing about 10 cars alone. I waited inside the dealership for about an hour and a half until the oil change was done. I went to a local oil change place the next time and they told me there was no way my oil had been changed the 5,000 miles prior at the dealership with the sludge that had accumulated. Those dealerships are mostly designed to keep the area the vehicles are being serviced invisible to the customer so that you just have to take their word that they did what they said they did to your car.

For people out there who are curious about the e-CVT, AMD actually talks about one in his previous videos (How Toyota Hybrid System Work Part 3 Hybrid Transmission). I used to have trouble envisioning it until after that video and others like it, and it's just pure genius how Toyota came up with it, especially the part where MG2 powers the vehicle in cases where the gas engine would be too inefficient (ie. getting the car moving off the line), and where MG1 and MG2 are harvesting as much mechanical action as possible and turning that into electricity to recharge the battery.

I drove the 2 models of the latest Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid a few days ago on a test drive along various terrains eg highways, urban and narrow hilly roads. Honestly, I now understand and appreciate the complaints by many about the continuous droning noise when the engine kicks in. I was so hoping the the eCVT would have sorted that droning noise, I did. The Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid was even louder than the Corolla Cross Hybrid. Then I drove the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Phev, that droning noise wasn’t there at all, no such droning even though there’s a slight noise not as audible as the Toyota - a difference transmission systems altogether. I was pleased, to say the least.

Can not go wrong with it, good power when needed, no carbon buildup, great on gas. I followed your advise and did my 1st oil change after the 1000 miles break in period. This is a good point A to B vehicle. Drives good, very comfortable, priced right. We also have the diesel engine version of it called D4D. I must say it's not an entry model. They also have a way of recycling the previous generation models and call them Corolla Quest. Its about being cheaper but they also strip it of some accessories to keep the price lower. They are bought mostly by rental companies and end up used as uber taxis and the likes.

Have to disagree with you about the fun that I discovered in driving my Corolla. Turning radius - great; weight distribution - great; low to the ground so it feels as if you are driving a race car. Took my SE hatchback to Watkins Glen International for 4 laps. Got up to almost 90 on straight aways & it hugged the curves like nobody’s business. Even when I hit the speed strip when I took curves, it did not shimmy but stayed on course. I was shocked & amazed as was the lead car, who I matched speed with. He gave me a thumbs up at the end of the four laps.

Agreed on everything on the video. Great info on the TSB on water sloshing around. I did pull a plug on bottom door recently and saw a bunch of water pooling out. Will pull a plug on each door now. As a 2020 SE 6 speed owner. Agreed on lots of wind noise at highway noise but tolerable w radio on and knowing its an A to B car that has enough comfort features to make the daily commute enjoyable. One thing to note, on the manual SE sedan Corollas. The one main safety feature is blind spot monitoring on the mirrors. Its been omitted completely. Thought that was an interesting omission. The lane change assist, automatic braking, etc are all still there. My guess is Toyota may be saving a few $$$ and or believing maybe manual drivers will be more active in looking over shoulders for their blind spots. The other thing that sold me is the initial turn in into corners and rear independent suspension for this generation Corolla. It actually has a sporty planted feel on the SE/XSE models through transition turns or entering into a street. So far in over 25000 miles. Trouble free! Also worth mentioning is the Corolla manuals are the cheapest cars brand new that come with rev matching button iMT. This button replaces the sport button on the CVT corollas.

I'm pretty happy with mine. Safe, economical, confortable and reliable, everything I wanted. Also I think Toyota got the perfect balance between confort and dynamic driving. It's not at all a sports car but it handles itself nicely on a twisty road. It's a bit noisy on the highway as you say but I wouldn't have bought a hybrid if I drove in the highway too much. It's really what you say, a pretty honest and overall very good everyday car. I haven't found any aspect in which to say it's bad.

@@2004cyrusin my opinion the seats in the 2019 SE model are actually much better than the seats on the 2024 XSE model. I feel like somethings definitely got cheaped out on during/after the so-called "pandemic" era and with Toyota the pre-pandemic seats were designed much better. However the new ones have electric driver seat adjustments and now come with heaters at least in the latest refresh of HB XSE models.

I traded my 2017 Buick Regal on a SE Trim level Corolla, there is very very little I miss about my old Buick. The Buick was loaded , and I really don't miss much at all. I don't miss paying $75 a week for gas, the Corolla only has 555 miles and I am seeing 38 MPG. Pretty comfortable, rides as good or in some instances better than my Buick did. I would not hesitate to buy this car again. This Corolla marks my 21st new car and is quite possibly the best all around car I have ever owned.

I have been using corolla since 2006. I recently bought the 2022 model SE trim. Its very impressive model as it gives lots of safety measures. It tells if theres a car behind you before you change the lane. The semi auto pilot mode is impressive. Its perfect (or semi perfect) for daily commuters. The BIGGEST problem that I face while commuting in this car is: - It does not have space where we can keep store our keys, coins. I know there is a glove is box, but thats at the passenger side. The only storage at driver's side is the sidebox. The sidebox does not have enough space. its shallow and I dont want to store my house keys / store keys in there. Surprisingly the older toyota models of same trim level has some space on driver's side as well where driver can store keys and coins. - The second problem is, since I drive this car every single day and I shouldve thought about this before I bought this car was, there is no space to store my sunglasses. I cant store my sunglasses at passenger's side. They MUST have provided some storage where driver can store sunglasses, keys, coins etc. - I know its commuter car, and they have upgraded massively and provided us all those safety measures, semi auto pilot, bigger touch screen and what not, BUT yes when I sit in this car I find the material that they used , e.g. dashboard, space around cvt box, space beneath the seat, is very cheap. I feel like I am driving a uber or some taxi but not a personal car (not that big deal but just saying) - The good things are , its really good on gas. There is a moon roof, safety protocols, big screen for navigation and radio (so cool i love it), buttons on steering. But if you compare same trim level to Honda, we have it all. But then problem with Honda (with a same trim level) is bit poor on gas and comparatively less reliable than toyota - I request toyota car designer if they could please provide some nice little storage where driver can keep her/his some keys, sunglasses, coins would be a great on upcoming design. Much appreciate for reading this. _/\_

I don't know why they don't come standard with sun/eyeglass holders. The previous model was also missing that feature. But the latest models at least have somewhere to place your phone [wireless charging pad] that I've been doubling up as a glasses holder since my phone doesn't charge wirelessly. Also the previous generation had a much better center console design. This new one that I have in the '24 HB is atrociously tiny. It's just big enough to hold a roll of toilet paper, that's it!
@davida871
@davida871 6 ай бұрын
I agree I still own 2005 Corolla and 22 SE model. I purchased sunglass holder for visors (Amazon) that uses a magnet to hold sunglasses, and the clip is thicker to fit on visor. I ended up placing keys on rear floor as there is no space to store them with a passenger in front. I thought of using a waste basket hanging on head rest portion of seat to hold keys too. I don't want center console to get scratched up. Below radio is spot for my phone, not big enough for keys anyways.

Simple answer: Yes! I bought the 2020 Corolla Hatchback around this time last year and love it. Despite being only one class up, it’s such a large improvement over my old 2008 Yaris Hatchback that I had for a decade. More power, space, tech, and better fuel efficiency. Plus it looks amazing in the Midnight Black Metallic paint that sparkles and looks like outer space in the sunlight. I did tons of research and considered others like the Civic and Mazda 3, but my Corolla was the only one on the lot at the time and I had to buy it up fast when my Yaris needed ~$1500 to pass annual inspection. I only wish the Hybrid Hatchback was available in the US, otherwise it’s near perfect!
