Every branch has a retention problem and reenlistment decline, pay and leadership/admin bureaucracy BS being the main factors yeah, had a buddy leave the Navy just a couple years ago, now works as a contractor doing the exact same thing he did in the Navy but for twice the money and better benefits package.

I'd add when I was on active duty, 1990s the USMC had approx 320,000 total; active & reserve. In FY2019, the amount is now 170,000+. 🙄.

I looked into being a prior service MAA, reserves lower enlisted. I left in 1993, US Army 🚔⚖🗂 MP(E-4). I was thinking about SBU now SWCC, SOF. Before the 2000s changes specwar had 4-5 navy rates to go into the special boat units, MAA was one of the 5 ratings. Now SOF is it's own career, rates.

Make sure the Navy has your current address and other contact info. Lt. Commander and above could wear beards at one time. In port cities, bearded civilians were frequently confused with Navy officers out of uniform. securing them terrific service at the best restaurants, hotels, etc.

I did my time but I got out I chose to get out because I was sick of a lot of the bull shit I had to deal with on a daily basis the navy did not want to let me use my training so I took my tallents elsware

Not going to happen for me. The Navy treated me like shit when I was in, they act surprised that I chose to get out and even more surprised when I make valid points that I don't want anything to do with them anymore when I left the military. After my IRR time is up the Navy (April 2021) would have been in my life for a total of 8.5 years. 6 months (DEP), 4 years (Active Duty) and 4 years (Individual Ready Reserve). Technically you aren't free of the military until that IRR time is up. Navy has no real reason to keep me anyway. I don't have any rank (only an E-3/DCFN), I'm out of their physical standards, I'm in college full time, I have a medical Marijuana card, etc. The whole IRR thing is stupid. It's like here fill out this survey every year for something we're not going to read or use just so they can keep you in a military data base. Can't believe sometimes I went through all of this stress and anxiety just for some college money but hey at least I'm not in college debt like the majority of these kids today. Hooyah Navy! LOL. XD

@HatoJey Yes. But only if you complete your full contract. Only thing you are required to do is fill out a survey every year (once/year) until the contract is up. I wouldn't even stress about it. I'm not. Active Duty----4 year contract (4 years IRR), 5 years contract (3 years IRR) or 6 years (2 years IRR). Your time in IRR depends how long your contract is that you enlisted for. If you got kicked out before you fully completed your contract or didn't make it through boot camp then you aren't of use to them. Also how much rank you are is valued on importance so if you are under an E-5 then you got no issues.

Honestly it's not fucking hard to figure out. Just let us smoke fucking weed, treat it like alcohol, don't smoke on duty, at work, etc. Let us grow a decent well groomed small beard.
