I see your question and will answer slightly blunt: I imagine it might be because the vids are not really coming to a point quickly, every subject is taking quite a bit of time, millennials "don't have time" (I mean patience) I feel that some of the subjects are quite UK biased. that limits the audience. The audio is not all that great, like in this vid, there is a bumpy road that is well represented by the audio, but it makes for crappy listening. But the info on the channel is quite good and the wizard is quite knowledgeable.

I’m very surprised you didn’t get DSG farts from it. My 67-plate facelift R estate is very vocal, DSG farts in any driving mode, and I get pops and crackles from the exhaust on the over run or when changing down while driving enthusiastically. It’s a country mile more enjoyable from a sound perspective than the MK7 R hatchback that it replaced.
@volkswizard
@volkswizard 6 жыл бұрын
That is odd Andrew, you don't have the Akrapovic exhaust option do you as I drove an R with one of these and it was very different, much more like you described. You could hear my test car in the video, ignore my description, does yours sound different to what you could hear?

Iv heard the R dosent get DSG Farts, only the GTI's does? It gets somwhat more growly engine noise though. Maby you have a newer R? The Clubsports can have very loud DSG farts in tunnels etcetera (extra fun if u have Sunroof then.. & have it open! ;)

Weve had a DSG mark 7 and now mark 7.5 for first 1000 miles or so I though the mark 7.5 was very quiet on the DSG pop side then it become much louder, louder than the mark 7. Drove it day we got it to Germany and back and it was quiet. Certainly isnt now

Probably my favourite Volkswizard video, as I'm waiting to take delivery of one of the very last UK Golf R 7.5 estates that's been made... certainly glad I picked a car with DCC, as my current Golf 7 GTD has 19" wheels on passive dampers - it's ok (spends all winter on 17" VW Dijon wheels & winter tyres anyway). No performance pack for me, as it's a daily driver & I want the ability to fit the same winter wheels/tyres onto the R & I doubt the bigger brakes would have had the clearance. Can't wait for the new car - best time to buy is definitely at the end of the model run, was the same when I bought the mk 7 GTD - it was just when the 7.5 was being released
@volkswizard
@volkswizard 4 жыл бұрын
Wow, enjoy your new car Andrew! I guess 19s on GTD were a good advert for DCC 😉
@andrewmcivor42
@andrewmcivor42 4 жыл бұрын
@@volkswizard yes, I guess! It's not horrendous, but we do some long-ish runs in it - the ride is dramatically better on the 17" Dijon alloys & winter tyres (unsurprisingly). It was a pre-built Mk7 that we bought just after the 7.5 was released, so had a substantial discount - I always wished I'd had one with DCC! Kind of the same with the R estate we're waiting for - pan roof, Dynaudio, DCC, Spielberg wheels & Lapiz blue which wouldn't have been viable without a large end of run discount. Think this one could be a "keeper", it's pretty much how I would have specced it anyway. Maybe I'll get to buy a Mk5 R32 from you one day...😂

Perfect daily? Depends what you want. It's indeed no Clubsport S. But you can get close. A Seat Cupra ST is (was?) available as a 300hp fwd vaq manual car. I have one and it isn't heavier than a regular GTI Clubsport with some equipment. Made a few choice mods to make it more 'Clubsport S'. It's for me the perfect combo of a roomy liveable daily estate car, and much if not all the driving thrills of a Clubsport S for the weekend. For us folks than for various reasons only can have one car that needs to do it all...

Gareth, agree with you, I much prefer driving fully my previous R mk7 both in 3 & 5 dr manual forms. However, as Andrew says the 7speed DSG is a marked improvement over the 6speed DSG. Love the performance and greater usability of the Rmk7.5 Estate over the hatch. If it was only too be one car, then the R mk7.5 manual 5Dr it would have too be. So the manual maybe a collectors item. R mk8 maybe a hybrid ?

Hi Alex, I think maintenance is OK until spark plugs, gearbox oil and haldex oil are due. Fuel is good for a 300 PS hatch but if you do the miles a GTD Estate still makes sense and is plenty quick in the real world - also safe for you driving licence!

Nice review, like a Golf 7.5R then? One thing I think I noticed, was no mention of the retail price with the options fitted, was that an omission or a swerve?
@volkswizard
@volkswizard 6 жыл бұрын
Bit of both - the thing about press cars is that that they are demonstrating what's possible so the price does get a bit crazy. I doubt many people would order a £43k Golf Estate with red paint and cloth trim for example as once you are that deep into the options you may as well pick a metallic and maybe leather. Also with VW, the RRP bears little relation to any monthly cost and thanks to Car Wow etc bears little relation to what you'd pay for a straight purchase. Anyway here is the options list. All I'd want is Indium Grey, DCC and some 19s;Additional optional equipment on this vehicle:  R Performance Pack - Four 8J x 19-inch ‘Spielberg’ with 235/35 R19 tyres with anti-theft wheel bolts, performance brakes, ‘Silver’ brake callipers and derestricted top speed where the law permits (£2,300)  Lane Assist Plus with Dynamic Light Assist, Emergency Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Side Scan, Traffic Jam Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition - Lane Assist, camera controlled warning system should the vehicle drift out of its lane. Dynamic Light Assist, automatic sensors detect other road users and cover part of the headlights appropriately. If dazzling other road users cannot be prevented, the light distribution is automatically set to dipped beam headlights. Emergency Assist, driver intervention should sensors detect driver is incapable of driving with automatic hazard light activation. Rear Traffic Alert, monitors area behind the vehicle during reversing manoeuvers. Side Scan, radar sensor controlled warning system for lane changing and blind spots with visual warning via light in door mirror housing. Traffic Jam Assist, camera and radar sensor controlled warning system. Traffic Sign Recognition, camera controlled system with visual warning for traffic and road signs (£1,225)  LED headlights - for Dynamic Light Assist (no cost)  keyless entry - including Start/Stop button on centre console (£375)  rear-view camera - displayed via the vehicles audio display system (£265)  Dynamic Chassis Control - variable suspension settings, choice of Sport, Normal or Comfort (£850)  panoramic sunroof- electric, glass sliding/tilting including integrated roller blind (£995)  Retailer fitted Tracker - Vodafone Protect and Conenct 6 tracker, including one year’s subscription (£485 incl. fitting) Colour and trim: Tornado Red (£285) with Titan Black upholstery Price as tested: £42,905.00

@@volkswizard I don't get the fascination around big rims, little sidewalls. On shit roads, and as a daily driver having 17's with 235/45r17 means the wheels stay the same but there's more cushioning on the road. I had them on a golf gti going from the pretoria's to some cheaper "beater" rims with the tire size i stated. The driving difference isn't all that big but comfort takes a massive win.
