2017 Volkswagen Golf R Review - testing the estate and Mk7.5 facelift

We all know the Volkswagen Golf R is a highly capable and widely coveted car. Whilst the 2017 Mk7.5 facelift promised to deliver improvements all round. With minor visual tweaks, revised technology and slight power gains.
The estate variant of the Golf R is not a vehicle you see frequently on the roads. Most customers tend to opt for the R in hatchback form. Meaning when I had the opportunity to test the new Mk7.5 Golf R in estate form I eagerly accepted. Keen to explore the improvements thanks to the recent facelift, and also intrigued to see whether there were any noticeable differences between the hatch and estate.

Massive props for saying "DSG means less chance of crashing" everyone else goes on and on about manual but get into a hectic mountain pass or fast track and you'll wish your wanger was a third hand

man, i just bought a 2016 Golf R here in America, i'd totally get the wagon over the hatch, but NOPE VW won't bring it here, or the Audi S3 hatch, i would rather have that but despite all of this, lovely review, great quality keep it up mate!

I love the wagons. Currently drive a 2014 VW Jetta SportWagen. Would buy the Golf R Estate in a flash if I could get one in the USA. Great review ; love the sound of that VW Engine.

Look for Golf Alltrack in USA it has AWD just like R but it can also rise the suspensions for off-road trails, engine is less powerful but it is enough really (around 200bhp) to get you where you want..

Your review of the 2017 R Estate is very good. You can make them all excellent if you lower your music level to match your spoken volume. The videography is excellent, but the sound level requires lowering during music and raising to hear you speaking.

This if it comes to fruition for 2019 mk8 golf R estate with dynamic suspention , Carbon fiber brakes, and Acropovich exhaust. And COMES to AMERICA i want one .

Paul 467 I felt the same actually. Footage is great and the editing is also pretty nice. But he is talking with his hands too much which is distracting. Also,steering a car with one hand on top of the steering wheel? That's a real no go. Really, wait till the airbag blows out.. you'll break your nose with your own hand. Lesson nr 1 in driving school keep both hands on the wheel. This 'one handed steering' might look cool.. but you look more like a douche..

Actually since is estate is bigger than hatch so it has the practical advantage but R comes in 3 doors too which means is more agile but the major inconvenient is when you have to get some friends with you in the back.. ;)
