Imagine this: Russia uses a tactical nuclear weapon, the world's initial shock is quickly mitigated by an underwhelming effect. The perceived high threshold of the use of nuclear weapons is lowered significantly. More nuclear weapons are used as they no longer shock the conscience. Larger weapons are then used - this is the progression of accidental nuclear war. It starts on purpose.

Veritable and well said. My proposal for a forward thinking response to the use of a tactical nuke by Russia or China would be a devastating, overwhelming conventional reprisal: with the threat of incrementally increasing levels of non-nuclear pain and punishment to follow subsequent violations - setting a precedent and maintaining a moral high-ground.

Why is no one considering USA as the first to use a nuclear weapon. After all they did it before, when they were losing the war in the Pacific and relied on the Atom bomb to stop Japan. They killed and burned up hundreds of thousands of children and women, but US still think their actions were justified.

You can troll better than that surely. It's the same copy and paste the rest of your mates at the Kremlin are using. Sounds like you never saw a dictatorship or a war criminal you didn't love. Now show us a list of all the Russian imperial conquests or is that not a part of your job? Tell us about how many people were killed by Mao and Stalin and Saddam Hussein and Gaddafi and Milosevic and so on... It's at least 100 million. Probably double or triple.

@@mirekslechta7161 Posting a list of countries is irrelevant. It does not prove anything. Take Iraq as an example. Iraq was only invaded after 11 UN Security Council resolutions that were all supported by both China and Russia. Refer to UN Security Council Resolution 1441. It was the one that gave Saddam one last chance to comply with the previous 10 resolutions. Saddam Hussein had already invaded Iran and killed a million people. He had gassed the Kurds in his own country and invaded Kuwait as well. The US instigated general elections and left Iraq as soon as they could. They did not try to annex it. Now let's compare that to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. No UN Security Council resolutions. Just a blatant attack with the intent of annexing the whole or part of the country. Yet you think the US was wrong but Russia is right? See how lopsided your thinking is? You can make a list as long or longer of Russian imperial conquests. The US, for all its shortcomings, has been more a force of good than bad in the world. And you would not have the standard of living or lifestyle if not for the US imposing a global order. Imagine leaving the world to be run by tyrants like Saddam, Gaddafi, Putin etc. The world would be constantly at war.

“Were you born in a barn?” The original meaning of the phrase traces to an exclamation of one literally leaving the door open. In an era past, farmers often left the barn doors open during the day for livestock on pasture. born in a barn (not comparable) (idiomatic) Engaging in the behavior of inappropriately, and usually neglectfully, leaving an exterior door or window open, considered ill-mannered.

Exactly Brian, it’s the same thing all around the system, I’m in Britain and our nhs for example doesn’t loose X-rays by mistake, I only mentioned the nhs because the hospital took a X-ray of my sciatic nerve and it showed up that my sciatic nerve in my right hip area was torn but conveniently lost my X-ray, things like that don’t happen by mistake, it’s exactly the same with politics, people doesn’t put the nuclear button by mistake, it takes more than one to press that button so it’s impossible to press it accidentally.

That’s the nitty gritty of it. I honestly can’t see how someone could accidentally push the nuclear button, it just can’t happen, it’s not just one person who has access to the nuclear button, it takes more than one person to push that button, so an accidental nuclear isn’t gonna happen it’ll obviously be on purpose.

the clever verbiage makes for two possible interpretations. The unfortunate truth is unthinkable for those who have not done extensive research, and the research is not where people would think to go. The structure of their system was engineered to obfuscate the truth in order to climax at the end of an age, a planned implosion, a shift of economic and military power, and possibly the fulfillment of a false world peace through personal electronic handicapping/empowering of chosen groups.

Russian-led forces take control of Klinovoye near Bakhmut, Donetsk region day after taking over Pokrovskoye just above Klinovoye, as they move closer to launching an offensive on Bakhmut. Before expressing concern about the possibility of nuclear war at any time in the near future, the first reasonable question that needs to be answered is that what was the main purpose of the nato military and politically allied nations' military enlargement and expansion untill the door step of Russia which is a nuclear armed nation with different political ideology of the western powers? Any way, soon or later, the nuclear war is irreversible thing because just as any tools and all military weapons have been used by humans, nuclear weapon cannot be spared. And, government are going to use it at any time stretched beyond their ability to resist their enemies just as the USA did it in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, any nation overwhelmed by its enemy nation/nations would use it as its last option to defend itself. Another and final question still human beings and world nuclear power nations unable to answer is that instead of agreeing to defuse and dismantle their nuclear weapons, they do not like to explain the reason behind their interests to keep upgrading their nuclear weapon war heads and try to block the right of other nations to develop nuclear weapons. If you can't abide by your law and exercise and respect international law, trying to force others to do it for the sake of your political and economic domination interests is impossible to render any sustainable peace, security and safety for our world.

The United States used the nuclear bombs to save lives. Believe it or not. Estimates at the time, put US casualties at one million and Japanese citizens at 7 million if the US had to invade the mainland. NATO kept expanding, due to new, small nations feeling threatened by Russia and now proven, rightly so. Ukraine was never going to join NATO. Period.

Israel doesn't threaten to annihilate other nations of a regular basis, but then again, they don't need to; manipulating them behind the scenes. Well whose fault is the "lack of dialogue"? Undoubtedly both Russia and China are difficult to deal with, but the U.S., and a very compliant Britain, have decided there is no compromise and they have sent this as a very clear message. Rather, the geniuses who determine foreign policy in the U.S., and sadly these are the only ones who matter, seem to be betting on some kind of regime change for both. Of course both Russia and China see this as a direct threat and will act accordingly. So, unless there is a change in approach from the U.S. that acknowledges the need to compromise, whether we like it or not, we are headed for a world war which will undoubtedly be nuclear if one side feels it is losing. Biden has bungled foreign relations quite badly and the rest of the Western world is just going along. We need regime change in the Western democracies, leadership that recognises the extreme danger that the current situation poses and who will act to start resolving this.

Indian prime Minister invited Xi to India and above and beyond made contacts with China. Yet China wants to change status quo, ignore protocols on the borders and ended up in kinetic strikes leading to many fatalities at the border. Russia is a side show that runs for the benefit of arms manufacturers of the west. China is an aspirational world leader that aims at changing present rules. West is confused on how to deal with China. It's not Biden alone.
