Out of boredom, and curiosity I filled up a large Mason jar full of water and submerged this radio in it, powered on and listening to conversation, then pulled it out for a radio check. Worked great! Definitely waterproof.

Nice! I liked the thing so much, I’ll be honest, I didn’t wanna risk it by submerging it cause I wanted to still have a functional radio! Thanks for taking one for the team, I’m still in love with mine!

Good review! Covered everything I wanted to know. Sounds interesting, but I need the VHF to monitor the Marine channels, I depend on the weather bands because storms blow up quickly here on the coast, and I like having the FM commercial broadcast channels to keep track of what is going on in the world when I am out on the water for a few days. I think I’ll just stick to my Baofeng UV9g for now

This really is a great little radio. Field programming the frequencies, tones and text using the internal menu and keypad is a snap. It's very obvious that this radio is more sensitive than the 935G which I ended up giving away to a friend. I was also very pleased with the audio quality. Oddly, I don't see a huge difference in the battery life between the 935G and the S88G. My biggest nitpick is the inability to dim the display at night. Bottom line, I like the S88G so much that I bought four of them (one in orange, just for fun).Oh, one more thing I forgot, removing the battery for charging is somewhat difficult. I definitely wouldn't ask my 89 year old Mother to try it.

Thanks for commenting, David! Yeah, I really like this thing, and that audio quality is amazing! I had it with me at a get together for one of our local repeaters and it got a lot of compliments.

If you were looking between the kg-UV8h or the kg-uv9d which would be your choice? Testing this month and want one to learn on that’s a step above my Baofeng. I don’t know enough to know if super het will be worthwhile. Just want someone to monitor local repeaters and I live 10-15 miles from the nearest repeaters.

Unfortunately, this one does not, Don. Sorry. I figured you’d be a little disappointed. Kinda sucks cause it’s brilliant in the sunlight compared to that display on the Kg-935, but they definitely missed the boat not putting a dimmer on it for low light use.

@@MattKester LOL!!! I was happy with my Wouxun KG-935G but lately I'm seeing how SoC stinks. I like that the one you showed us is IP67 and Superhetrodyne. It's the right price.

What a bloody shame they repeated the same mistake with this radio that they did with the KG905G and the blinding display. It is a real pain using one in a vehicle while driving at night. Why Wouxun/B2WR???? WHY?????
