Says a guy whose engineered 0 cars. You think you know how easy it is until you try. Have an army of financial ppl down your throat and a strict schedule. Sick of the blame the engineer take from smart dumb ppl.

That starter location isnt even a big deal lmfao. It take like an hour to change.

you do know that design and engineering are 2 separate departments that never work together? IDK why but it just is. design usually makes the care and then they give it to the engineering team saying "here make it work". Engineering are dealt a shit sandwich and Macgyver that shit to make it work.

Good tips. Thanks. Especially for guys who aren’t super familiar with repeaters

It really is not a hard job. Intake comes off in a few minutes, as does the starter then reassemble. Literally millions of cars are far harder to replace the starter. Oh so many cars you have no way of doing the job from the top,,underneath which can be ok presuming you have a hoist.

So is it better to design to last 1000000 miles or design for ease of part replacements every 100k miles

Thanks very much. I'm going through that rabbit hole now. When I click SUBMIT on the FRS page it takes over 30 seconds to open the next page. The TITLE box requires no input. YOUR video seems much simpler than trying to decipher the FCC web pages.

They are *almost* always designed with servicability in mind. This is a bit of a gimme as the 2uz is a bit of a beast when it comes to long production jdm, and at that displacement, you either put it there, or get stupid with chains. 😊

As someone in the rust belt, I love the starter location. Ill take a starter thats a pita to replace once every quarter million miles than a transmission mounted starter that I have to keep a torch and hammer in my car if it gets too cold, and ill have to replace every two years
@messagesent22 сағат бұрын
No, they are really smart about part location. Because you nor the average mechanic of the backyard variety will want to change the starter, and you might go to the dealership for the installation of a new starter.

I recently bought one to build a grab and go kit. It is surprisingly small which will allow me to minimize the size of the kit, but once you unlock the radio the programming can only be done by hand since its not Chirp compatible, unlike the DB-25. But I couldn't pass it up due to the price...ended up getting it for just under $90, not including any sales tax. I would have preferred the 20W Wouxon radio, but at $200 that was out of the question for my intended use.

I had a 1995 rodeo. Just a warrior. Loved like nothing. Had a starter go out. Soooo 1) its mounted driver side above the sway bar. Dont have a cherry picker to lift the engine because youre a peasant? 2) no problem. The starter is a three piece assembly. Just take the fasteners out and she comes apart. EACH. COMPONET. WAS. A DIFFERENT. FASTENER. and we arent talking just metric heads, nah. Lets put allens in there. Hope you have an articulating ratchet head for those body bolts, bucko. 3) ok, so you mapped out which goes where and repeated on disassembly of your new starter. You've trained for this. Hope you also mastered Tetris to find out how to get those pieces out and how to play the level in reverse to get it back in, you filthy do it yourself fool! I still remember her fondly. But i never understood the term "seeing red" until i had dropped everything laying on the concrete with hands and feet braced on all tires and just growl-shouted until i thought i was about to have an aneurism. Ironically i now work pretty much exclusively with mechanical engineers.

There is more to it than just blaming the engineers. Maybe the company rushed the production while the engineers were working on a better placement. Maybe putting it in the next 5 convenient spots didn't work because of very specific reasons. I just hate it when people have 1/3 the info and then blame some faceless group of people. All it does it give credence to the next brainless person with little knowledge to do the same. I'm not an engineer, and I don't own a sequoia, but i know enough about critical thinking to know you dont know much.

You will complain about location and service of some items and say genius about something else. You have to fit a lot of shit in a tight space, make it manufacturable and serviceable. It’s a lot of trade offs. Engine bays aren’t like they were in the 50s they are crammed packed so that we can have all the shit people like to have in cars now
