First ride after doing to simple build-out on a 2016 Yamaha WR250R. To sum it up in one word, fun!

Very nice 👍. The camera stabilization, b roll, location, laying the bike down, commentary, and riding ability really make this video one of the better pieces of wr250r content.

I've had my WRR for about 18 months and it's had quite the build out - love it! Nice vid - I jumped around and will try and get to the whole thing. One comment - you should check on actual mph - the stock speedo is off quite a bit and it gets worse when you lower the gearing. Try a GPS to check, and potentially add a speed healer - I have the one from 12 O'Clock Labs

Funny. I just finished posting a video on can the WR enduro. These bikes are criminally under appreciated. For the tip over re-start, the culprit is the tip over switch. Just cycle the master off/on and it will fire up no problem.
@joesmithjoesmith42845 ай бұрын
@21:02 The flashing check engine light when you push the starter button is telling you the lean angle sensor has shut off the fuel injection! There should also be trouble code 30 displayed where the odometer is. Just stand the bike up, switch the ignition off then back on to clear the code, and it should fire right up! I have a 30" inseam, ask me how I know about that and how tough the bike is when dropped 😁

Came here to say this! Gotta cycle the key after tip over.

I like the part at the end when it was rated for street use. Better top speed than the early Enduros of my era!

I run 13/47 and seems like a solid medium, I did have a 48 and it felt about perfect for off-road and technical riding. I used to run 14/49 on my last one

I run 13/52 and top out at 60-65. I ride off-road and single track; this bike likes rpms. These bikes have a tip over kill switch that requires you to cycle the key if it kills itself. For back tire stability and traction, adjust the rear shock rebound and balance the tire. I would ride on the road with the sun behind me and watch my shadow as the rear tire would bounce off the ground; that's lost traction and control.

Thanks for the vid.. definetly interested in 4 options right now, klx crf 300's DRZ and the Wr. I'm 5-11(so Im glad you addressed your height and lack of issue) 220 beginner / novice and thinking id rather ultimately drop 1-1500 in suspension dialing than deal with crazy maintenace and possibly rebuilds, obviously at the cost of future desire for more hp. Out of all 4 which would you pick ? and or out of DRZ and WR ?.. one bike (not going to highway it, mild street only) for an all arounder off road machine? Thanks

I'd also like to know his thoughts on this compared to the DRZ

I wanted another WR but bought a CRF300L ,after 4 months I am ready to sell the Honda off-roading it is disappointing. The stock suspension components are garbage. I hope Yamaha comes out with a WR300 soon.
@gripsanity5 ай бұрын
Thats why I wouldn't consider a CRF300/250 or KLX300/250. The stock suspension components just aren't great.
@autismion2 ай бұрын
The rear shock kinda sucks stock on the WR too. The KLX comes with better suspension than the CRF, dunno if it's worse than the WR.

I had both the R and the X. Both were quality bikes, unfortunately at 250 street legal CCs, they were just so damn slow and gutless. If Yamaha would make a WR500R similar to the WR250R, ie a reliable street engine, with low vibration, and long service intervals I would be all over it.
@gripsanity5 ай бұрын
Hopefully someone is working on a bike that can take some of the market share away from the KTM500EXC/Husky.
@leanit57565 ай бұрын
@@gripsanity Yes, and don't think it would be too hard. I had two EXC500Fs. While they were very capable on dirt, the engine vibration on both was comically bad. One of them would literally vibrate itself across the garage when on the kickstand. I can't image how the engineers for a major company could do such a horrible job on engine balance. Not to mention the service intervals.

I’ve owned both too. Loved them for exactly what they were. Something can always be more powerful. Personally I like the engagement, low fuel, light weight, easy on tires and chain, doesn’t run hot, and overall cheap ownership that it offers. Enough power to do 90% of things. Super reliable. Fun to custom. Personally I’d like a rev and fuel gauge for those beginner riders. Most will buy the crf300 these days if one can be found used.

When the wr250 falls and fails to start, just try to get it level, so that might mean sideways across the trail. It'll start right up. Still annoying, though

I see all the other comments about toggling the start/stop switch. I'll try that next time!

I heard the factory fuel pump sucked
@jrodbball82444 ай бұрын
This is mostly on the '08 models and maybe '09s. '10s and later Yamaha fixed the fuel pump issue

Cam chain tensioner and stator too. But not on the later models.
