It really depends on skill level. If you pick up riding really fast like I did it’s a good beginner. I had the R7 for about 7 months and upgraded to the S1kRR

My group of friends got bikes, all of them bought 1000s as a first bike and I got a R3, fast forward I have to buy another bike to keep up with them, they can always ride slow with me but I can never ride fast with them

From someone who started on a 600 and went to a 1000 a year later… i wish i started on a 400 and really got good at riding. Here i am years later saving up for an r7 bc i want to actually hit the throttle without going mach 10 and having fun

I started on a 05 kawi zx6r with zero experience. My friend who had a Gen 1 busa said 600s were slow so it would be easy. Well it was anything but slow lol. Anyways l learned to respect it, did a class, and also used all the info on the net I could use. Was lucky I had a mile backroad that had very little traffic. If I could go back I would have bought an sv650. Much more manageable with about half the hp and i would have gained confidence faster. Listen to this man in the clip. He's saving future riders from a huge learning curve and trying to save time and your behind. I love riding and theres really nothing like feeling as if your one with the machine.

I agree on pretty much all accounts. Another factor, IMO, is that beginner riders will struggle more with the more aggressive riding ergonomics. It will cause them to put more weight on their hands which isn’t a great habit. It also makes it less natures to check your blind spots when changing lanes. Bikes that are lower to the ground and more upright are inherently gonna be more friendly for beginners. I think the duke 390 is a pretty amazing beginner bike. It’s got enough power to do the highway easily. You don’t have to outgrow it if you like it. But it’s got all the features of a good learner bike

Very good point! Any naked style bike is 100% more friendly for a beginner rider to hop on and start learning!

Very much an American thing this tbf. The freedom to do anything and it's down to the individual. In Europe you can't afford a powerful sportscar until you're a grown up with a good income and lots of money on the side, so in your late 40s, 50s or just never. No cheap Corvettes. And can't just go out and buy a big bike either, there's licenses and age restrictions. So starting on a an R7 is out of the question even if one is old enough, people aren't worried about any of it because it's not considered remotely reasonable. Very different cultures and all I can say is it's probably the reason why I'm still alive today, that I didn't have access to any of it and started out from the bottom up. I've had a lot of fun thrashing 60bhp and 100bhp cars 30 years ago and now with my125 bike. Next up the sky is the limit but I know, first and foremost, if I can trust myself to be riding a fast bike, not just being able to steer it around and not mix up the controls, but if I can ride in a safe manner and not get drunk and jump on my 130mph motorcycle or do 100mph on city streets cause I'm too young and too horny tonight baby.

I truly believe modern 600 supersports are good beginner bikes. The mode option helps with newer riders. If you can keep a level head with common sense. A 600 is great

New to the channel! Very informative especially for new riders and those interested in sportbike ergonomics. I am new to riding motorcycle since last season and have only put on 1600 on my 2022 MT07. I’ve been really taking interest in the R7 to change up the ergonomics. I went to the dealer today and I was quoted 11k out the door price with no trade in. The dealer valued my 1600 odo MT07 for only 6000 USD. If I trade it in and put 1k down, my monthly will be around 100 dollars. I was hoping I was gonna get 7.5k for my bike but that wasn’t the case. I don’t think it’s worth 6k so I will just keep it. But in the future I would like to get an R7.

Thank you! I'd recommend selling your MT07 yourself (private party like fb marketplace) and you should get much more for it! Definitely closer to that amount you were trying to get for your bike!

Definitely should have gone with a 660/700 for me, started on a 300 and its definitely tooo slow. Have to ring out the bike to hell just to keep up with back road traffic. On throttle 24/7. Now im in the situation where I dont know if I wanna go 600 route or v2 parallel.

@1meterdefeater450 it really isn't bad, especially brand new as you gotta take it easy during break in period. I've really enjoyed it so far and haven't found it to be too fast or have too much torque. I'd say it's been a great beginner bike especially for learning a more aggressive riding position

1st gear alone is too much for a person who never rode before especially given using all body parts like you mentioned! 1st gear is way too snappy for someone who never rode a bike to have to always worry about that plus all the normal things to worry about on a bike
