Hi Mr. Music Mindset! Thank you so very much for your heartfelt reaction/review of our project! We love doing these great tunes, and working with Tori is a tremendous joy. I am so appreciative that you recognize all that happens on the production side of things. It takes me a lot less time to create a production if I do all parts myself, so that's what I did on this one, taking only a couple weeks. You are absolutely correct in saying that Tori naturally has a sound that is similar to the great Karen Carpenter. She is not trying to be her, but her beautiful pitch-perfect alto tone suits her performances of these great tunes. There are always people who will have something negative to say, but the fact is that we love the music, love that we can artfully and faithfully perform it, and are overjoyed that we can share it with everyone. Again, I thank you for your kind words!! -Jim

Thank you and Tori so much for keeping this music alive and honoring Karen with Tori's talent. I believe it is imperative, in the graceless age we live in, that we keep that music, and Karen's memory alive, for music today. For this generation. Blessings and love from Chuck in NC PS--Here I go sobbing again. Her memory is so beautiful and yet so bittersweet.....

When I first heard Tori Holub sing Carpenter songs and her uncanny similarities to Karen Carpenter, my memories of that era came flooding back. I can't believe how much it costs to see bands now. My first show was the Police in '83 for $12. When they came back after their breakup it would have cost over $100. The story that surprises my kids was tickets to see Motley Crue on their first trip to Minnesota opening for Ozzy in '85 were only $15.

I agree with you that what you hear is Tori's voice BUT when she covers a Carpenters song, Tori adds those little idiosyncrasies that Karen did like the crack in the vocal, the low vibrato. However and in my opinion Tori takes the edge off her higher end which creates a smoother softer tone. She's remarkable!!
@ChuckHackney24 күн бұрын
There is a difference, growing up with Karen..Tori does a great job, but her falsetto is just a bit stronger and more pronounced. There is not quite the gentleness of tone and purity that Karen had. The only thing that Tori is missing to sound exactly like Karen is that little cry in Karen's voice. Of the several Carpenter songs done by Tori or anyone trying to sing like Karen, this version of "For all the know" is this best. I also think Tori does an amazing impersonation of Olivia Newton John.

@marywilk39369 күн бұрын
Yes there is a difference in my opinion. Tori does sound so close to Karen's voice, however , for example say Richard Carpenter brought Tori in to sing a whole new song that he would have picked out for Karen's range , Tori lacks Karen's soul and spirit. Tori would not know how Karen would approach the vocals. John Bettis has once said that Karen had a Einstein like ability to capture the raw emotions of the lyrics in the song. This is what made Karen Carpenter's voice so very special. It's one thing to sound like her but quite another to capture the soul behind the voice.
@jeffreyjacobs39012 күн бұрын
THE DIFFERENCE is Tori has more power, bigger low end register and otherwise is a DOPPELGANGER for Karen ! Great !!!
@RoxysRabbithole24 күн бұрын
No, she doesn't sound exactly like Karen did. She has a great voice, but I can hear differences. Tori to me just sounds like Tori. I would not have thought it was Karen if this was playing somewhere. It's nice, beautiful and all that. You're saying "exactly" like Karen at 8:00. We all hear differently. No one can ever sound "exactly" like Karen. Similar, sure. They did a great job on this recording.
@TheMusicMindset202324 күн бұрын
I get you, but not so much scrutiny though. I have no bias, I just listened to the original and then Tori with my eyes closed, and they sound exactly like as if the same person was singing both, maybe on a different day, if you know what I mean. And many would agree. As a pro singer, producer, and musician, that's how I saw it. You have a different feeling about Karen vs. Tori in your opinion. I just listened. But no hard feelings my friend; just my humble opinion. Nobody else is Karen. Thank you!

Hi Mr. Music! What a wonderful analysis and history lesson. I agree with your overall, this is her best performance, yet. In both the quality and depth of voice. And she fooled me. I heard her before I saw her and thought it was a Karen isolated vocal. Errrr, it was Tori. If you’re familiar with Eduard2004 he made two videos about this song. One he slides back and forth between the original video. The other he just lays Tori and Jim under the original video. Both required no editing, just align and go. One did have back and forth but in perfect sync. The other Karen was in perfect lip-sync with a voice from 53 years in the future. Spooky. Check those out, if you haven’t. Thanks again and the next one isn’t a Carpenters cover! Not sure when it’s coming. Happy New Year to you and yours! Joe Edit: Oh and yes, Tori naturally sounds like Karen in her lower register. As no two voices can ever sound alike. The operative word is “like” not exactly. Extremely close but no one can duplicate. The technology (and you used a Fil pic, that was by my request) exists to show the difference even when our ears say wow!

Karen Carpenter had superior phraseology. This young woman's voice is almost as good, though. Just lacking a smoothness and depth that Karen had. Not a lot, but it is different in certain places. I am not saying Tori is not a wonderful singer. But, let me just say nobody can compare to Karen Carpenter. Her voice was absolute perfection and nobody can touch her diction, how pure her voice was. I have heard this debate over and over and it is ridiculous. When you hear Karen sing you experience 20 different emotions, no other singer had that effect on a person, that Karen did. The Carpenters hit it big when I was 8 years old and I have heard thousands and thousands of singers in my lifetime and of course I know many Female singers that have gorgeous voices and they touch me, but are they comparable to Karen. NO, because nobody will ever be. A voice like Karen comes along only once
@TheMusicMindset202323 күн бұрын
If you're a fan of the Carpenters, I can see why you'd feel that way. Karen's singing, experienced in real time, set a precedent that can never be surpassed. It would be unrealistic to say that Tori is better or could ever replace Karen-life will never give us the chance to hear them sing side by side in a live setting. That said, I appreciate artists like Tori who keep Carpenter songs and memories alive. While no one can outdo the original at being the original, having performers like Tori ensures Karen's music and legacy continue to reach new audiences. If no one is talking about Karen, her memory fades, and that would be a real loss. As long as people respect Karen's legacy-without elevating others above her or tarnishing her memory with poor interpretations-I'm okay with the comparisons. Tori seems sincere and dedicated, and it’s clear she takes her role seriously. So I’m happy to see her shine, as long as she stays true to Karen’s legacy. I think that's the least she can do to keep the great original alive. I hope that makes sense!

@@TheMusicMindset2023 it does to me. That so many aren’t seeing it, is sad. She’s what I classify as a Super-Fan. I’m so sorry she took down her videos showing her Carpenters memorabilia collection. It was something to behold. It showed where her heart was at. That she actually sounds as close as she does, is just next level. It was because of her that I got to see the 1975 Playboy Magazine issue with the survey results. Karen came in 10th, John Bonham 11th. So many misquote the results, Buddy was #1. Little things like that and programs, albums and electric guitar festooned with Carpenters imagery. I wish Jim would have her play that in a cover. That would be magical. Thanks my friend. Joe

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I understand and respect your deep admiration for Karen Carpenter-she’s a legend for a reason, and I love her singing too. However, I feel your judgment of Tori Holub might be clouded by that admiration. If we set aside biases and simply focus on what we hear, Tori demonstrates remarkable vocal skill and emotional delivery. She’s not trying to be Karen but rather paying homage to her while bringing her own artistry to the song. Discrediting her as 'third-rate' feels unfair and dismissive of her genuine talent. But I still respect your right to your opinion. Thanks again.
