The team descend on the village of Ffrith in North Wales to discover if it is built on the remains of a Roman mining town. The main street runs along the route of Offa's Dyke. The dig involves excavating two gardens and the playing field, but the team are frustrated in their attempts to find a Roman bath house. The team are joined by archaeologist Chris Martin and historian David Mason.

I LOVE these programs. It would be ‘cost-questionable’, but I think if I lived anywhere in Great Britain, as a matter of course I would have the place surveyed and ‘geophysed’. If I were to build a home, I would do the same. Ya never know!

I feel like so many people in the UK are cool with their property being dug up and their stuff above ground being destroyed in the name of finding ancient archeology. It’s really amazing! Something tells me that fewer people in the US would be so cool about it.
@baddie1shoe
@baddie1shoe 2 жыл бұрын
I’m from the US and this kind of excavation seems unlikely here. My thought watching this is..why? What’s the point? Yes, Rome invaded England. Yes, there are archaeological finds. So?
@samsativa245
@samsativa245 2 жыл бұрын
Lol well it's a good job the US doesn't have that much of its own history to ignore then. But it's that exact reason why I think Americans are so ignorant to it. They don't have that history, they don't fully understand or feel it

I'm so impressed by this whole town just being like, oh sure just take down out buildings, cut down nice wooden fences, and dig up driveways to hopefully find something important. I certainly hope they all got a say in this anyway. I'm just trying to imagine such things here in America happening. If I could help and find interesting stuff I'd be happy during the day but there'd be moments I'd be hiding and having different levels of panic attacks about how expensive it could be or just because I struggle sometimes with change really bad. 😅 I would really do everything I could to hide it though because I love history and team work. Then I look away while I think they're climbing up on the digger for a slightly higher look only to look back and be startled by them being way up in a bucket lift. Apparently I don't even care for heights on camera without at least a little mental preparation!🤣
@samsativa245

They would've paid all these people and probably even put them into contact with good professionals to fix their gardens up, so they end up with a nicer garden than before... just a lot of noise and distraction for them. They wouldnt have made them pay to sort it out afterwards, that would be shocking lol

I can believe they would do it just for the excitement of being involved with the show. I can even imagine the show possibly did offer each property owner some compensation for damaged or removed structures. I can even believe it was some of all of that plus a chance to get rid of some the old structures/stuff without it costing the home owners anything.
