Without a doubt one of the coolest and most down to earth guys I had the honor to interact with waaaaaay back when OVW was still the main developmental territory for the WWE. He was one of the guys that would stop by every once in a while to like, for lack of a better description, be a guest lecturer. Unlike a lot of the other guys who would stop by to work with the people already signed to the WWE and just needed some polish, he and D-Von came to the “amateur” training nights too. Got to take the Bubba Bomb once. Well, twice. I didn’t do it right the first time haha. Nothing but respect for the man. He gives way more to the business than he takes.

I don’t think Bubba gets enough credit for his, let’s call it heel-dom. The dude can bring legit heat in a day an age where most fans are pretty jaded. At least the vocal ones. I think he’s done what a good heel does and convinced you, he’s a prick. And listen, maybe he is a bit of a prick when you strip all his character away, but he’s used it really effectively. That takes intelligence. It’s helped entertain we fans in the way that we can “buy in” to him being a “bad guy”. I think his lack of credit (that I feel he deserves) is proof of that. I hated him for a long time when I was a kid. I hated the stuttering and he didn’t look cool to me. But his matches were always really cool. Now that I’m in my mid 30s i really like him. I’ve watched his tna run and what he could pull off as a main event guy was really good. Bully ray was a bad ass character and it’s a shame the wwe didn’t use it themselves. Bubba definitely deserves to be mentioned as a top tier legend.
