You have the patience and courage of a saint. I can't tell you how many times I would have thrown the pattern, the work and the yarn (but never the hook!) to the closest wall, and jumped upon it a few times for good measure.

A round of applause to you for working through the instructions. But a standing ovation for the person who created the drawing of the project, especially with 1849 materials.😊

Oh dear sweet Corrina, You gave it your very best. If I had the eyesight and your talent. I would have gave up a long time before the time you did. I think it still looks delightful. And I'm looking forward to your next video. Don't beat yourself up so much you do a great job. 👍♥️

I agree. She did wonderfully!💙 ..I may, or more likely may not, have an explanation as to why it went, lol, I love when she says "wonky" (??) I'm just wondering if, since we weren't certain of the thread and needle sizes, that is the ONLY reason for wonky-ness? Is it? Lol I'm "novical"

Great job! For the 7 chain row, the explanation of stitches says attach with a plain stitch to every third stitch. Hope you saw that later. Also the edges are only half tye number of long stitches for the diamonds, not full counts on the sides. Wow, that was a great try though. Bravo!

Really hard to recreate one of these old, unedited patterns without a picture. For instance, the "open crochet" would have been easy to decipher with the illustration. Well done though, and it's very pretty.

But I watched this same video, differently titled "Not One But Two Mystery Patterns" yesterday.😊😊😊 Anyhoo, it is a "tutorial so nice, I can watch it twice"😉😘🥰😂❤️❤️❤️❤️

Yes, I can see how the pattern has skipped some rows and made some counting errors. You were right to check the picture. There are diamond shapes in the picture with the pattern not allowing for that as written. You interpret these patterns so well. I can see how this could be made just by the picture. Very detailed. Pretty pattern.

Have you tried those plastic finger pads protection? They are the size of your finger pad, it won't protect your finger the way a thimble will, but it will cover your owie from the full power of you hook.

I don’t understand why I’m only seeing this video now and it says it was uploaded 11 days ago, and only 65 views and no comments?? Twilight zone? Anyway, halfway through, yeah terrible instructions. I mean after the ‘7 chain’ row they really needed a ‘correcting’ row after those to get you back to a straight edge and correct stitch count. I mean you did seven chains, skipped 5, and counted the slip stitches in the next row so naturally you have a lot more stitches that you are working your next row into…. Hence a correcting row (say for example ch5, sl st into centre chain of previous) would have fixed all that. Also the last row of the first section of diamonds when it asks you to do 5 long at the start when there were 3 in the previous row below, doesn’t quite work the same on the edge; you have 5 so one hangs over either side but on the edge you only have one side to hang over, this needing four there at the start not 5… that would have contributed to the chain seeming too long like you mentioned. Hoping for a thicker yarn for you next time - give your poor finger a break! lol Thankyou for your vids, I hang out for them x

I am wondering if the ladies in 1849 looked at the photo, then looked at the directions and said nope let's just follow the picture. I think sometimes we think that mistakes don't happen in vintage patterns.

you could try a piece of stick on moleskin like the kind you use on fee to prevent blisters from shoes, cut a little piece just where the hook is pressing into your finger.
