Ikea is already building houses, but they are crap. Building description is not precisely defined. Contract clauses disadvantage buyers, especially in the event of construction defects. You can only have it built in defined locations. You should pay for everything even though construction is still underway. Known technical defects, sound insulation, subsequent installation of sockets, for example, not possible. Buyers are bound to a specific energy provider for at least 15 years. www.boklok.com/

Mine for example you have to twist and push the “button” for it to work and release some gaz. You also have to approche a flame to “light” not sure about the word) the stove. So kids can’t use it by accident. Of course like any other appliance you need to use it as it was designed and maintain/upkeep it. Most accidents happens with older, not well maintained models. In some rare case someone forget to turn it of and wakes up with a mild gaz intoxication. Death by gaz leak is pretty rare nowadays. Hope this helped.

Hi Shelby, I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the time you spend to make them really visually pleasing. That being said, I feel like there wasn't quite enough research put into this topic to truly represent it as a whole. The title makes it seem as though you're going to talk about Tiny Homes in general, but what you're really talking about is pre-fab homes, which are generally MUCH more expensive than tiny homes. I feel like it is detrimental to the movement (which is generally very eco friendly, and awesome in so many other ways) when people see a video that says that tiny homes are generally $150,000 - 300,000, when in reality the average cost of a tiny home is much much lower than that. This might cause people disregard the movement as they think it is too expensive. Just some thoughts! Thanks again for the video!

Literally anyone in a trailer park has been doing this since the 60's. These are just fancy looking mobile homes... also know as manufactured houses. Don't get me wrong, that one looks way more legit than a double wide, but when you do the math it's way more expensive too.

@JBoy340a4 жыл бұрын
The problem with many mobile homes is they are not very mobile. If you try and move one after a decade or so you will likely do a lot of serious damage or have to pay for expensive reinforcement. So the whole concept of moving to a new location is questionable.
@EricMakingWaves4 жыл бұрын
jerry kurata the “mobile” part isn’t about moving multiple times like an RV. It refers to the fact that the house was made in a factory and then transported to its destination in the first place. Pretty much exactly what the guy in this video is talking about, but his required more on-site assembly.

I love the Idea of having a house made from a container, it’s green, natural disasters proof (it was made to resist crazy weather variations), low cost, etc. but the REAL ISSUE here it’s the pricing. Considering how expensive the final cost can be. Plus all the legal requirements from the city, etc... there must be a way to actually make this happen with a very small budget.

A tesla is at most 2x the cost of a cheap new car, but with basically every feature standard and 1/2 the cost to run and maintain. a fully loaded 500sq ft tiny home would cost as much as $50k. The one you had was almost $200k. so 4x the cost for the same luxuries and with a house that honestly is probably less energy efficient so you pay more to live in that home as well. SUPER bad comparison.

If you're even a little handy, there's a much cheaper way to do this. In fact, I'm standing in the office I built in my backyard via this method. There are dozens of companies around the country that sell backyard sheds. I used TuffShed. They'll build you a shell of a building for a very low price, then you just come in after them and finish it out with whatever utilities/amenities you want. For example... The building I put in my backyard is 12X20 and cost about $3,500 to have them build it. They built galvanized steel base and put it on piers, then brought in the walls and roof. The whole build process took a few hours one Saturday morning. That gave me the shell with 2 windows and a door. Once that was done, I roped in my father and my son and the three of us put in flooring, insulation, drywall, electricity, lighting, heating/AC, etc. The total final cost was right at about $5K for what is essentially two 10X12 rooms that are fully useable year-round. One is my office. The other is a spare room that we've used as a guest room and as storage. My zoning prohibited it, but if it hadn't I could have paid $500 for the "barn roof upgrade" which would have provided enough space overhead for a useable second level, nearly doubling my useable floor space. Of course I'd have to pay more to run the electric to the 2nd level, as well as insulation, flooring, drywall, etc... So the overall cost would have probably ended up closer to $8K, but that's for almost 500 sqft of space. If someone wanted to take that and add a few appliances, they could probably finish out the building as a tiny home for around $15K.
