Have had the Q, Q2, and now have the Q3. Love it for what it is. It makes me want to go out and take pictures more than any other camera I've ever owned/used. It's that simple!! If you can justify the cost, buy it.. Great review.

In my opinion nothing renders imagery the way Leica glass / sensors do. I outgrew my Fujis and got hooked on the Leica "feel". It is insanely expensive but a creative tool in a class of its own
@MarcTaraz4 ай бұрын
The glass is truly wonderful. Insanely good optical quality that definitely resolves the insane 60 megapixel sensor. Loved using it

I was finally able to afford a Leica Q and now it’s hard to pickup my Fuji cameras. Yesterday me and my wife where looking at side by side photos i took of the same objects and it’s not even close.
@Phat-rj3jo4 ай бұрын
It’s not the sensors, Leica doesn’t make sensors nor did they made film. It’s those magical lens!
@fgaglione4 ай бұрын
They do create the color science for the sensor which creates that part of the look.
@Phat-rj3jo4 ай бұрын
@@fgaglione yeah but Leica look didn’t originate from sensor, like I said, they didn’t make film, the so Leica look has more to do with the lens.

Dude, it’s a Leica camera. Nobody hates Leica cameras aside from the people who can’t afford one. I love my Q3
@animegeek61184 ай бұрын
Regardless if you can afford it or not their cameras are not worth the cost. They are only bought for bragging rights about having deep pockets. In the real world people know these cameras are a friggin ripoff. They basically want 1000 dollars per every 10mp. They are the equivalent to buying an overpriced suit.

With a Leica resale or residual value needs to be factored in when comparing to other brands. Though x100 resale values are also nice nowadays 😂

That is also super true! They hold their value insanely well!

gread vid brother! excellent content and prod. I have a Q3. I think for me its the simplicity, IQ and small for factor. weather resistant and build quality too. I toss the camera around all the time. its fully scratched but I know its build like a tank. When you get over the price you realize that you dont need to really baby that camera either. its reliable.
@MarcTaraz4 ай бұрын
Oh it is DEF built like a tank. I baby all my gear, but I know that cam can take a beating and come out just fine. Can count on it to survive anything. I’m glad you enjoyed the video!

Good and thoughtful video. I love mine. It is a sublime tool to use. It also makes me a photographer again; not rattling of shots but, caring again about composition and all elements of image construction. Just like when I started so many years ago on an OM10!

Great breakdown of the Q3 - like many this is a camera beyond my wallet but I appreciate the thought and the build quality that goes into making a precision instrument. If you get the opportunity check out the Nikon Zf; I think you might like it, as a quality instrument that is a joy to use at a price that is open to more people.

Were you using zone auto focus? In single point the focus locks wherever you place it and DOESN’T jump about. It’s also worth considering that a Fuji medium format is substantially bigger and heavier to cart around. That said, your initial views are spot on.

Was trying different AF modes, but got sick of it switching around. Single point was my favorite of all the modes I tried

28mm is the perfect focal length that utilizes the full frame sensor. 35mm would ruin the Q.
@t87h214 ай бұрын
This camera has changed a lot for me. It's not as fast as my Sony a7IV, the autofocus isn't as good either and my f1.4 GM lenses do a good job. With the camera you are slower but more conscious. You can feel the high-quality workmanship and it's fun to pick up and use. Already on the display you can see an image that cannot be surpassed in terms of sharpness and dynamics. When you take the first pictures with the camera you notice that something is different, no cell phone picture or Sony picture offers me this 3D representation and the deep black, the pictures put you exactly in the situation as you perceived it.
@drc45634 ай бұрын
Great video. How do you find the “wide 28mm” (yes I know you can crop at this resolution) . For me it’s this vs Fuji X100Vi for my travel/street camera. Which one?
@MarcTaraz4 ай бұрын
Im actually working on a comparison video between the two, so stay tuned for that! It really just depends. Personally I feel like 28mm is too wide for everyday use, I do prefer the 35mm equivalent of the Fuji. However, that being said, the 28mm 1.7 full frame lens is absolutely better than the Fuji, better low light, better bokeh. It really comes down to personal preference, (and dollars ahah)
@YoramPomer4 ай бұрын
Ignore the price, ignore anything that you would like to have different in the Q. There is no other lens in the world that produces such a detailed resolution with an aperture of 1.7 plus macro in this compact size. This is the big story here. All 3 camera generation Q/Q2/Q3 share the same lens because it delivers stunning results. If you search the Leica KZbin channel, you could even see how they calculate for each lens the max resolution that can be supported before there is a need to enhance the lens optics. It’s a great explanation for those that want to get more technical.

New subscriber, great review! I did take the plunge and bought a Q3 for everyday walk around. I was shooting a D5 and since my kids grew older I didnt need the blazing focus speed and lock everyday. The Q3 is a perfect daily companion for me. Like you said, you buy this for the aesthetics, great quality photos in this well constructed form factor. Just like my Benz S Class, better than perfect German engineering, top notch build quality…and it’s pretty darn good!

Nice review. I have a r7v with a few GMaster lenses but I still lust for a Q3. Like you I don't like 28 particularly and this has stopped me from taking the plunge. Along with that $10,000 in Australia price tag. Phew!

Nice video and good exercise. Let me add my 50 cents here with something few speak about for the Q3: it seems to lack on something basic on Fujifilm and means a lot to me: profile allowing to lock minimum shutter speed when doing street photography. Example, manual aperture ring, auto shutter speed and auto iso but shutter speed cannot go lower that 1/250 and ISO cannot go higher than 6400. That way, shutter and iso operate dynamically while I switch aperture. This may seem wild but it’s amazing for street photography where the light conditions change very fast and this way I get always the proper exposure.

If I could save up for a single camera, it would be this. I don't plan working on serious photography, just learning the basics to intermediate and I plan to use it mostly on travels, landscapes, nature and street photography. Even it's an expensive camera, I don't mind because I want it and I won't waste money showing this off..I will use it intendedly for its purpose. And I am not into lots of camera gear which is just slated for the pros. I just want to have a camera that I could use and appreciate for a long time.

got mine last sept.. i really wanted to hate it.. i shot a fuji x100V for years.. i had 30 days to return for full refund.. by week 2 I was in love. its super expensive.. there are other cameras (sony acr) and a fraction of the cost that are very similar.. but something about the Leica Q lens.. it has a look.. it has some charm.. and the interface.. minimal buttons.. its just nice to shoot. the 24mm lens is limiting in some situations.. and there are times I wish it was 35.. but overall.. its a really special and unique camera that gives amazing results.. no one needs one.. but if you can get one.. you'll love it.

The common wisdom is, it's not the camera but the person that makes great pictures. Well, I'm not THAT good as the Q3 allows me to shoot. Is it worth the price? Yes. And no. It totally depends on what you value and what your budget is.

people compare a Leica to a Rolex but while the Rolex doesn't tell time better or is built to be more durable than a cheap quartz seiko watch and is purely a cosmetic status symbol the Leica actually performs on par with the best cameras for still image acquisition and has unmatched build quality. I would much rather spend 6k on a Leica then 12K on a Rolex submariner. Just get a Omega seamaster for 4K and you still have 2K left over.
@slothsarecool3 ай бұрын
It’s a great camera but compared to the M cameras it’s clunky and kinda ugly IMO. Leica nails the experience, no other company matches them that way, which is odd considering most old film cameras are a joy

One card slot? Mediocre battery life? EVF resolution not on par? Autofocus issues? But Leica made sure the price was premium…….. it’s probably still a great camera considering all the other benefits….. and yes you’re not buying a Leica for the specs… you’re buying a Leica to show off, just like a Rolex.
@tamasdragon4 ай бұрын
To show off? Really? Superb optical quality. Evf in use is on par with the Canon R5. Battery life is good, you have to fully charge it 3-4 times before it reaches true full capacity. Autofocus is on lar with Fuji. There's room for improvement, but it is an amazing camera.
