IDK if actually counterfeit, but I definitely would not prefer to use those Morocco built filters! That filtration media looks absolutely terrible. Overall a substandard filter for sure, at least compared to the original. If you still have a new new version of each, I would love to see them cut apart further with the amount and type of filtration media compared and how durable it is.

Definitely working on something with a fresh version of both of these filters and more!

I’d say counterfeit. Anybody can sell on Amazon/eBay. Although Amazon is convenient one must look very carefully at the part to ensure it’s legit if possible. Alternatively one can use reliable authorized / OE distributors. That’s stinks man! Glad you caught it though 👍🏼

Indeed, I have been digging deep into the oil filter market lately, and while I haven't found any more sketchy sources, people do seem to come across them from time to time! I am hoping to have an in-depth video on the subject later this year!

@@CarsSimplified I know companies try to figure out how they can save a few dollars here and there. But I definitely was not impressed with this Morocco oil filter build for sure. Genuine or counterfeit. That should be some good content for sure. Looking forward to it!

I always check who is the seller under the "Sold by" and if they comply with Amazon's standard return policy before purchasing. Although, idk if Amazon will glady accept return for already used oil filter but maybe its more likely if it can clearly be proven its an counterfeit.

@@Poorgeniu5 Definitely a good policy!

There's nothing more expensive than a bargain oil filter. Walmart sells some OEMs finally. But you simply cannot trust ANYTHING you buy online unless it comes from a very reputable source. OEM from the dealership is well worth the money. I do not purchase any filters from eBay or Amazon after too many questionable products arriving. The lack of a proper anti drainback valve on those inverted filters have killed many a Subaru engine.

Definitely seems like a safe way to go! I also saw the OEM Subaru filter at Wal-Mart recently and picked one up. It was one of the black Tokyo Roki (nice) filters, but not the sought after made in Japan version.

I just bought a couple of random off brand filters from Amazon for the sole purpose of seeing if they are horrible inside. I suspect they will be lol

Every 5,000 miles I drive down to the Toyota dealer and buy a genuine filter Never heard of Baldwin but they must be good if someone is counterfeiting them.

Dealers definitely seem like a reliable source for genuine parts! Somewhat recently Subaru had some supply issues with oil filters so there are a lot of different "genuine" filter numbers out there now for my Crosstrek. Baldwin seems to be going for the professional market, so I never see them in the typical retailers near me.
