Wow, kewl idea. I’ve been messing with a portable bench from doing medieval wood working at festivals. Mine is square, but round is nice. I would for sure add a spoon clamp, pincer type. It could be like a holdfast rather than a foot driven clamp. Orr you could just add a clamp or single holdfast to hold the work in place. But some work holding I would find necessary.

Use bottom side for chopping so you do not tear up the peg area of the top. You also could use table leg mounting hardware to add removable screw in legs for safer and steadier working. And, industrial strength hook and loop or plastic buckles with nylon straps works great for hold downs and adjustable straps. A kit box or folding saddle bag could make for better transport of items, especially if the container does double duty as a support or other part of your setup. Like a leather foldout apron/work surface with tools in pockets or sand/rock stuff-able weight bags (bean bags filled on site). You get the idea.

I think it needs a foot clamp..rope would work

Been thinking on how to do that without fixed legs.

Maybe single leg is enough.

Reminds me of the old traditional Japanese woodworkers that use their bodies and small wooden work holding devices. I think you are on the right track. If worst comes to worse, get a small motorcycle trailer. That way you won't be so space/weight limited.

Can you hollow out somewhere for the stop and rest to be stored? Maybe on the side and add an extra hole on the leather to allow it to hole them in while transporting.

Sjoberg (Sweden) make a portable vice/bench which is square, and attaches to any worktop or table. I have used one for some years, it being very portable; I think its just veneer over chipboard, so could be better made (its expensive) from proper wood and a wood vice. This in addition to your circular bench could be still very portable.

I had never seen or thought of something like this, but I think it's a good idea. Removable feet would be a must for me, as I don't really like working at floor level. Anyway it's worth trying and I'm looking forward to getting a trunk to start messing around. Cheers!

I don't know if you've seen it but Steve Antonucci has a very convenient portable shave horse/spoon mule on his channel. I've used it and it works pretty well.

4:23 well.... Since you can split out a plank, have a drill (better get a conical reamer?), and can just pick up three branches the class can just bodge the stools. Conical holes are better, because the legs stick better in the seat, even under wood movement. I assembled some sort of bench in the woods, there was a tree that had split, which I took a length of, and some offcuts. Put notches into the round side of the split tree half, clean up the flat surface so you don't get splinters, put it on the offcuts (they lie on the ground, axis orthogonal to the axis of the seat). I only had a small axe, but it was a quick job.

Young did have this "need for cognition" as a variable on his 5 traits model. I used to work in a Kitchen and production mode was the kind of "looking into the abbys, till it makes sense" type of hell. mounting shit to a MC is a magnificent way of looking back imo. I feel im going to edit this post a few times, as im Drunk and NNS i just latched on the ´take shitty things, and make them nice things´. 3:08 5:40 had my 40 years old rump swagger my way thoug sweeping the newly build beedroom in the rental part of my house. Reminds me of JJ.Cale. 11:00 Its MAGNIFICENT! ofcorse its overkill, but with a lade and pecan there is no sutch thing. 2x(2x6) construction whatnot would get you to a theoretical endgoal of a working surface suitable for MC. I think. You need to clamp that thing to a existing sett of leggs thoug. dont se me doing green woodworking on my kawi. harley folks might differ in oppinon as they are like to do:) Seriously thoug. i been working on a offbrand Workmate lately and im pretty sure those things could be made MC sized with some modifications... btw i dont use power tools.

You could try to figure out a way to use your foot to control a small clamp or hold down on the bench. Maybe some kind of pedal? It probably wouldn't be very strong, but it seems like it would help in situations where you just need one more hand.

With the strap around your waist to keep it secured/stabilized to your body, maybe put a hole slightly toward you from the short post that holds the work and put a loop of rope up through it. This loop could be used as a clamp to hold your work down against the post by pressing your foot down in the loop underneath. Or you could make two holes - one to either side of the short post, so the clamping force could be right in line with the short post.

Awesome idea(s) and great start to a useful and practical tool. I would consider adding more work-holding options. Maybe including a 3/4" hole or two and you can use dogs or doghole style clamps or tools. Even just one on the left or right and maybe offset would add a whole new world of possibilities. Not to mention a holddown would easily fit in your bag. Aside from that, I think its a great idea! Keep up the great work!

Could have a dowel that threads into the center hole to be a sort of one legged stool/ support for striking. Also a couple of holes at 90 degrees to your current line of holes for a strap clamp style of spoon mule, could place your current back stop under the work to raise it up if needed.

😊you could make a set of sectional legs that would fit in a rear or side cargo box. Use inserts in the legs that would screw together like a 2 section pool cue

I see that you have an iron hold fast. Put a flat on part of your circumference. Put a horizontal hole into the flat, that suits the hold fast.
