It is real you can tell by the mounting tabs on fakes they do not have the tab milled down from the transistor base, it is real obvious when you put a fake next to it...

This is very much a real 2879. If I'm not mistaken they used them in the yaesu ft 757 and the yaesu ft 301 in the very early days.
