Hopefully other tourists coming to buy a vehicle can learn from our experience of International Banking Limbo 💸 We are super grateful that everything worked out for us, but it is important to be aware there are alot of scams, we are fortunate to have alot of experience looking at vans so we know what to look for and thankfully trusting our gut on this one worked out for us ❤️ thankful to Steve for all his help throughout our time in Australia

Roadworthy certificate can be of any age under 5 years. Not 30 days. Well leagaly it does but ive purchased a car that had a Roadworthy slip almost 2 years old and used it. Just wrote my own receipt and back dated it. Bobs your uncle, in my name. Just a tip. Vic roads never checks.

We arrived in Melbourne in 2019 and pretty much did the same thing as you guys but bought a kitted out 4x4 instead of a tradie van. 4 years on and we’re still in Australia. Wee tip for anyone buying old motors, cars, vans etc , lie on the ground both sides have a look to make sure the inner sills are intact , or oil covering the floor or gearbox, if that's ok , remove oil filler cap make sure its not a creamy beige colour , Head gasket starting to go Water getting into oil etc. or take someone with you in the Trade. Retired Panel Beater .

Please when you are going somewhere make sure petrol stations in the areas have gas. I'm talking about out of town. My daughter was using her brother's ute which ran on gas and she could hardly find a petrol station that sold it. I would hate you to run out in the middle of the bush. Don't forget to join road side assist. Have fun.

You should consider platforming your bed. Runners on either side just above the cabinet/chair level and make the bed in three platforms. Slot them in and roll out the mattress. Little head room but you have a 2’ boot underneath and loads of living space. Use 3/4” ply.

Just watching your excitement and happiness for this new adventure made my day. You guys are so authentic and fun. After a few months of being married, my husband and I decided to buy a house. We had lined up a few houses to visit. After the first visit, our gut told us it was the one. Think you got done with the tape measure when checking out the van. Someone cut the first 6ft off it lol. I’m sure you’ve been told plenty of places to visit, but as it’s not far from you atm try visiting Chewton near Castlemaine. It has life size sculptures of local personalities lining the Main Street. My favourite is Frances, sitting on a wall next to her house. She escaped death when a 25m-deep mine shaft opened up beneath her. She managed to grab at a tree branch just in time. Quirky place like you guys! 😂

Good old van the Hiace, very reliable but sadly a bit pricey on new parts, good thing being there are thousands of them around so second hand parts are reasonably common, plus there is a good range of aftermarket parts available. Enjoy your travels around OZ, just be prepared for miles of nothingness. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Macedon Ranges, Cross and Gardens, Hanging Rock (kangaroos too). Torquay - Bells Beach (surfing). Cape Otway - Bimbi Park camping under Koalas. Great Ocean Road ‐ Twelve Apostles. I'm only 13 minutes into the video and was surprised at the price for something that old, but when I went and checked $7K is probably about right, with maybe 340,000 km on it. Check the oil and water both before and after a test drive. If that seems good and there's not weird noises you are probably good. Really you can't go wrong with a Toyota, as long as you look after them they just keep on going.

I’ve a Vauxhall vivaro and do some camping in it loads of room really for all your sleeping in, turned the backend into a kitchen and I could fit a double between my wheel arches, very cosy 😂

I live in Australia and I love Melbourne because it has this amazing uplifting, positive energy, and everytime I go there, I can feel it, and I think you both felt it too! 😀 I am so happy that you got a good deal on the van, and that the banks came through. I love it! They always say to trust your gut and you did, I like your van too. We have here a lot of senior women who make minivans into campervans and you can do so much with a small space....you'll figure it out. You can make a platform over those wheel wells so you can put that mattress down and then have storage under the bed. That van, and oh by the way, what will be it's name, has a lot of potential. Can't wait to see what you do with it. And that running out of gas, too funny and yet a terrifying moment for you, like, did we just buy a lemon?. Have fun you two and enjoy that Melbourne coffee. ☕🥰

Yeah weve heard it's wet season then, we hope to be in Tasmania for Jan/Feb to escape the more extreme weather. But our plans change all the time so we will go with the flow, but that's the current plan 💪

When buying a new vehicle from someone else, always take it to the mechanic and have it checked out even if it costs you a couple $100.It's worth it to find out if it's junk or not

Yeah I think you are right! Luckily for us Steve turned out to be a legend and has looked after us super well and any mechanical stuff we noticed in the first week he fixed for free 💪💪 but I would defo advise the mechanic tip to anyone in future.
